Originally posted by trancebrat Yes, they brought Sasha here twice but do you realize that it took Tampa 4 years to bring him back here??? He spun house music both times so it wasn't even trance. He's still a good DJ, but I want to see them bring in more people. The last time Paul van Dyk was in Tampa was in June 1999. That's almost 5 years ago. AND PvD said he loved it here in Tampa. So what the hell is the problem? The Amp brought Oakenfold to Tampa on March 2, 2004 and what does he do? Walk off the stage during his set. He spun a little trance, but his set was a mixture of everything. He let some breakbeat DJ from up north close for him. ??? Of all the big names to go after they pick someone that hates spinning in clubs and showed complete disrespect for our town. I guess I appreciate the effort, but it just left me thankful that I was going to Ultra that upcoming weekend. Tampa needs to bring Ferry or Armin here. Both of them love to spin...they could care less about the size of the venue or how many people show up. Orlando is moving in the right direction. Last year they brought Tiesto, Ferry, and many others there. Tampa is stuck in a breakbeat time warp. Our idea of movement is remixing hip hop songs into breakbeat. No offense to all the breakbeat and hip hop people out there, but the same sound everywhere you go does get old. I'm sure that other towns are tired of trance, but no one that lives here can make that complaint.

Originally posted by Inertia lol, its incredible how people refer to Sasha. the trance crowd always says he is playing house, whereas a house crowd, like 99% of this country is, says he is just way too trancey. haha, just amusing. i'd say ive got the best of both worlds.

Originally posted by trancebrat Believe me...no question in the world that he spun house and breakbeat. When he has spun around here in the past he spun trance. The last time that he was in Tampa (before 2003) he spun trance. When I saw him in Jacksonville years back he blew the roof off that club with trance. I definitely know the difference. Back on 12/16/03 after the lights came on and people were leaving he asked to play one more song to "test"...as in to test the waters. He spun a trance song. People stopped dead in their tracks and looked at him like he was crazy. Some people even yelled "tease"! Playfully of course. The talk around town was that a lot of people came out expecting to hear trance. The music wasn't bad...just very monotonous at times. He still had a really good set. I just wasn't expecting him to spin what he did.
I didn't say what he is...I said what he spun. He did NOT spin a trance set. No way in hell did he spin a trance set on December 26, 2003 at the Amphitheater. He didn't regardless of what he is known for, has spun in the past, or spins at other venues. You weren't there so you couldn't possibly know. He spun house and breaks.
You just turned 17...right? Not to be rude (which it will sound that way anyways), but I'm way too old to debate with a 17 year old that hasn't even graduated high school yet. You seem like a nice kid so I am not trying to argue with you, but please don't question what I do or don't know in the future unless you have something to back it up with. If you had been at the show it would be different, but you weren't and you're talking about things that you know nothing about. I don't care what someone told you. Don't act like you know better than me if you weren't even there. I don't need to "ask" anyone anything...I was there. I started listening to various forms of "techno" when you were singing along to Sesame Street. I think I know the difference between breaks, house, and trance.
On a lighter note...
Word is out that Tiesto will be at The House of Blues on June 20th.
slept!!! b/c i partied the night before for SCUMFROG and didnt sleep since thursday nite..was gonna go to see Dave Seaman last nite.. but was too pooped.
i did a whole 2 niter w/o any sleep last weekend but that was killer..
hmm
Went out to a pub with my mates and listened to some local bands playing: the doors, some funk and 80's music
Got pissed faced & passed out on my homies couch.....
We went to a club called Le Rachdingue near the frontier with France and my province. Was a wicked night with James Ruskin spinning and a very good atmosphere
Went and saw Armin & Above & Beyond spin

road trip with me mates to see tiesto spin on saturday night. left on friday evening after work in a car stocked up with a whole lot of substances. drove about 400+km taking turns at the wheel. that way noone had to stay sober the whole way. arrived at midnight. met up with some old friends. got trashed the whole night at their place. continued till the next day. went out to get something to eat at about 4pm. went back to change. headed to the venue where tiesto was supposed to spin (called zouk kl). got lost. spent 1/2 an hour heading in the wrong direction. ask for directions. got stuck in traffic. arrived at the venue 1/2 hr later than we had planned to. the opening dj for tiesto, daniele davioli started at 12.. it was now 10pm.
we were met with a huge crowd of about 5k ppl all trying to squeeze into a venue with 2k capacity. couldn't get in.got pissed off. walked to a different club called atmosphere which was packed with others who couldn't get into tiesto. a friend of mine happened to be on the decks thats night and he spun a great tech-house/tech-trance set. we left the club when it closed at 3.30am. chilled outside talkin to other "tiesto rejects" till about 4.30. got the car. headed back to a friends place. got even more trashed till lunchtime the next day. took a 3 hour nap. woke up. said our goodbyes and headed for home.
arrived back in my hometown 4 hrs later. had supper. headed home. crashed till monday afternoon.
all though not getting to see tiesto was a dissapointment, i would say i had a really good weekend. then again we were high for close to 72hrs.
no more heavy partying for the next couple of weeks for me. i've got drug tests to go for

Originally posted by trancebrat Get over yourself. It has nothing to do with that. Go back and read this whole thread before you take a stab at me. I sure as hell pointed out the age difference with someone that was trying to imply that I don't know what I'm talking about. Mentioning that he hasn't even graduated high school was stating the obvious...he wasn't even at the show that night so how could he possibly know what went on. Obviously I should have just written STFU to Heinz since that's everyone else's response on here.

Originally posted by trancebrat The Amp is defintely NOT a trance club. The Amp is good for their visual show on stage and sometimes they have decent music, but for the most part it is the same thing every weekend. People go there for everything but to hear trance music. That is a breakbeat club with a little bit of trance music here and there. Commercial trance that is...the kind that all of us would recognize. There is no such thing as a trance club here in Tampa. I should know because I would be there. The club scene used to go off...not anymore. There is a small trance scene still around but this town is nothing like what it used to be and it never will be. Too bad this damn town is too afraid to do a full blown trance night at any club. Too bad people here are stuck in a time warp and can't accept the fact that my best friend spins trance and has been for years now. Too bad the club owners and promoters don't have the balls to bring in big names like Tiesto, Ferry, PvD, or Armin. They think they are bringing in big names when they book local/FL breakbeat DJ's (no names mentioned of course) and once in a blue moon bring in a trance DJ from here in FL. Too bad I have to drive to Miami to hear good music and see my favorite international DJ's. Thank God for things like Ultra.
