Where in WEM is this place? Directions, anyone?

I'm looking forward to the show, I just hope there's a good turnout. Great DJ + half-empty room made DJ Sneak a bit of a downer.

Also, check out the new Nick Warren mix on djmixes2k for a preveiw!

Escape is on the northside of West Edmonton Mall on the second level, between Reds and Rum. It is the old Nashville's. It's right beside T&T Supermarket.

Dang, couldn't convince my friends (who are somewhat into electronic) to go to the show, guess that means I ain't goin'. Hope you guys have fun! I'll be at Tiesto for sure

Posted by vinnie97 on May-11-2004 08:41:

You don't know what you're missing...it's good enough to go solo! However, if Tiesto is your thang, maybe not.

Posted by DaRyanator on May-11-2004 09:11:

Hahah, yeah, i'm sure i'll spend hours debating in my head whether or not to go solo. It seems like WOW is known for only mindcircus, intensify, and stealth. Do they have any other good tracks? If most of them are as good as those, i'll probably end up going. Man I need some friends that are into electronic . As for Tiesto, "Just Be" was meh, but he's still worth seeing IMO. You gotta go!

Posted by vinnie97 on May-11-2004 09:21:

Not a Tiesto fan in the slightest here, sorry. To be honest with you, Just Be was better than I expected. I'm not at all a fan of the screaming euro synths with the wide open envelopes that are so beloved around here. My trance fascination took place from '97-'99 and it has long since grown stale to me.

WOW have done 70+ remixes over the last 10 years, and I'm guessing you're too young to know WOW's singles from the 90's including "The Gift," "Ajare" ('94!), "Blue" and "Domination." Click here to hear some samples (you'll need realplayer :X): http://www.wowest.cc/media.htm

Evil1

I just saw them two nights ago and it was easily the best show i've ever seen live!!! I am soooo jealous that you guys get to go tonight.... coz if i had any idea i woulda bought a ticket there and booked a flight!!!! I would be definitely going solo if there was no one to go with me for sure!!! You guys are in for a real treat!!! Have fun!!!

Posted by BryZe on May-12-2004 18:56:

Look for physe and me (BryZe) at the front as well. I might not be jumping around because of my back but I think I would make a good addition to the TA wall.

And that's why Way Out West = WOW!!!

What a great show last night! We showed Calgary and Vancouver something about partying, well at least this time. The show was nice and packed by about 1130 and the buzz was great. Dave Stone opened up the show nicely with some good proggy beats. By the time Nick and Jody took over, it was on. They played some amazing tunes with quality mixing. For the most part of the entire night, they played breaks which was a surprise for me. The breaks were incredible though!!! The crowd was extremely into it. And when Omi joined the group and they switched to the live set, the mood was intense in the club and they tore it off!!! Omi has a great voice and has that certain sex appeal about her hehe They didn't play Intensify or Mindcircus, but it was amazing nonetheless. Jody was destroyin his little synth and Nick was doing his thing on the other side and putting some records on. The first live show I saw of theirs was a lot better as they had 8+ synths and going nuts. But this show was different and excellent as well. After the live set, Nick and Jody came back to play longer, but I left around 130.

Questions for who can answer them... the songs they were playing live, was that their new songs, songs from older albums, other ppl's songs with their additions to it via synths and what not, or what was the deal? Gotta love the live sets though

Hope all had a great time. Good to see lots of the TAs out. Nice to meet you Porky, finally.

Cheers to all,
Terry

I wasn't quite sure what to think of the show as a whole. It was a bit frustrating to dance to because you don't want 16 breakdowns in one hour and most of WOW's songs seem to be melodic, end-of-set anthems. It was hard to tell what the "live" aspect of the whole thing was adding. And then when the live bit was over I was hoping Nick would take over on the decks and really rip things up to finish off the night, but he seemed to be letting Jody do all the work and I left around 1:50. My trance-virgin friend had a great time though, so hopefully she'll come back with me for Tiesto.

Only old WOW song I recognized was The Gift ("the moon and stars were the gifts you gave"). I also recognized Killa from the new album, and I assume everything else was from the new album too. Too bad no Mindcircus or Intensify.

Oh, btw, nice to meet you Chris (porky)! See you around.

Posted by zarathustra on May-13-2004 21:02:

They played Mindcircus as their last track at around 2:45 AM. You guys missed out, the last hour of the set was just full on prog. I didn't recognize a single track until UNKLE - In a State (Sasha Remix) and of course Mindcircus. I asked Nick to play Activity but I don't think he heard me. The last track with Omi was wicked.

I had a great time, I was on the dance floor from midnight till close pretty much.

It was good to finally meet some Edmonton TAs. BryZe, physe (finally), DJ.MD and Porky. Please forgive me for not chatting very much since I couldn't hear a goddamn thing. I wish I had brought some earplugs.

Posted by zarathustra on May-13-2004 21:26:

They also played Portobella - Freakin' In Stereo (Michael Gray Club Mix) at some point

So I missed out on meeting Zarathustra eh?? Hmm, maybe next time.

Posted by Porky on May-16-2004 00:58:

sorry guys, i have no internet connection atm so this is my first time replying

nice to meet fellow EDM-TA's!
bryze
terry/cravetherave
djmd (matt?)
zarathusa (paul?)
and adamb

i see our crew in etown is primarily a sausage fest! aye!

but anyways, the show was solid. i've been to alot of trance shows (almost 12 pvd shows alone) and i was really impressed by this show. the live vocals by Omi at midnite really added to the intimacy of the show, and i think is something more trance dj's should do ( tiesto had mavie from andain sing beautiful things at the TiestoInConcert show)... the 2 or 3 hrs of progressive trance bliss was by far one of the better shows i've been to in awhile, even the gabriel&Dresden show in calgary last feb

hope to see you guys in tiesto next month

cheers

chris!

Posted by Porky on May-16-2004 01:00:

Smiley DJ

I don't think it's possible to even compare nick and jody to tiesto as they are complete different sounds and styles... but if you could compare i would say wow would leave tiesto in the dust! and i've seen tiesto loads
