And not stuck up either...

Also, what club in Toronto can beat guv when it comes to lights, talent and sound?

PS the club looks much much better now with the new black floors and walls.

I agree 100%...although I still have to check out BOA...can't imagine better non-event nights than MO at Guv though...and I can't believe there are that many people who haven't gone, or won't go, on a non-event saturday...and I don't want to hear any "I hate the crowd" lameness either...suck it up and ignore the people you don't like, FFS...it's not THAT bad!

but yes, it could use a shakeup to improve the overall vibe and crowd in there...I guess that will be John's job now

MO's nights are anything but "regular". I enjoy his sets more than those of many so-called "headliners" I've seen there, or at System, etc. I may go this week...unless I can find someone to go hear John Creamer @ System the night before.

Reg nights can be fun but I will not go regularly...just not worth it imo. It's fun but not as fun as a spec event.

As far as spin vs special events go, I think its all about the crowd really. MO ranks up there with anyone for playing music that gets me going. It all depends on how many people I can talk into going, and that usually means special events get more people out.

Was hanging around there last saturday and the tunes were pumping all the way until 7am!

IMO - Guv is good.

At least from what I saw last night, yes.

I think "good" lighting is more dependent on personal preference for anything else though...

Yah they can, i remember tiesto at kool haus in 2002 and gold club had made up the place like nuts!

Monkey Dancer 2

Personally I like darker more minimal lighting setups. It feels more underground (less cheesey). And it makes the night more about hearing good tunes rather then going to a club to get completely mashed to stand in the middle of the dancefloor and look at pretty colors (you know kind of like what most of the lemmings that you see @ GUV do lol). I'm not a fan of thousands of flashing lights/lasers, all they do is annoy me/distract me in a night out.

A dark tight sweaty room. Thats what its all about for me.

But hey whatever floats your boat right?

yeah exactly. I certainly don't go to guv for the lights, and couldn't really care less if they had lights or not. I think any of us that post here are drawn to clubs for the music and people more than anything else.

Guv has definitely the best lights in T.O, period. BOA has the best sound system, period! I have to check out the new SS in System but i doubt its just as good as BOA

Last Saturday night I spent about 6 hours max at system. My ears rang when I got up to go to work on Monday.

Last night I spent the same amount of time at Boa. No ringing whatsoever.

I'm not sure why he plays like that, he knows very well he's capable to play much much better. His Trance sets are legendary! His prog sets make me wanna puke.

Thats your opinion. However ill tell you that Mark Oliver played an amazing techno set last night. I kept looking over and expecting to see a certain 300 lbs black bald guy named carl! LOL

Normal Saturdays are basically anything from house, prog to breaks and techno and some nu trance thrown in. Not to mention a few classics along the way (for example last night he played house nation and phazed in "house music" acappella by Eddie Amador over top.

For hard trance lovers, best bet is to see mark at Viva. If you like a variety of electronic music all in the same night, Guv on Saturdays is the place to be

Good lighting

What makes agood lighting is definately the equipment involved but a good light operator can do great things with the simplest of equipment. It's all about timing, knowing the music, understanding the music, and creativity.

What's the hahaha for?! Mark did play Techno in his set and it was a great selection of Harder edge Techno...he's versatile in what he does and I think that's the greatest thing about DJs that are not into one type of music.
