I am thankful that good music is only a road trip away. I am just over how close minded this town is. When my best friend announced on his message board a couple of months ago tht he was going to start focusing more on trance and that his mixes were primarily going to be trance he actually got attacked by people (verbally online...not literally). They wrote crap saying they would no longer support him and that he was stupid and trance sucked. They flat out said that he was an idiot and that Tampa is a breaks town and not a trance town. I couldn't believe the response. Now different people come online and ask for trance mixes. He's slowly converting people. It's been one hell of a process.

Sounds like you are referring to DJ Santana. I love his style, which I think is 50% Ferry/50% Tiesto = 100% AWESOME!! True epic/melodic trance! I feel your pain trancebrat. You've basically expressed how I and a lot of my friends feel about this town and it's lack of diversity in music. Don't we have enough hip-hop and breaks? I guess people in this town don't like change or are closed-minded to different types of music such as trance. Being the optimistic guy that I am, it could be a lot worse I mean we could be in Alabama where clubs only stay open til 2am and no alcohol on Sundays. I say that because I was pretty much raised there. Yea, it sucked, severely, and I won't be going back, ever.

Yes...I am talking about Santana. Paul (DJ Santana) is one of the only DJ's in Tampa that spins trance. Suzy Solar is a trance DJ from Tampa. We are trying to get Gemini back into the scene. We'll see. Stay optimistic. I agree that Paul's style is like Ferry and Tiesto's. Paul would say it is more like Ferry and Armin. I think it's all three combined. He's put out some bangin hard trance mixes too so you might as well add PvD.

I couldn't imagine living in Alabama.

Hi Trancebrat,
It was not that Suzy had the right idea by branching out. It was that she had the right idea by sticking to her guns and playing what was in her heart. TRANCE. No matter what people said about her or trance music in general, she played what she believed in. While most of the other Tampa djs were busy cheesing out, playing the same old Tampa breaks that every other Tampa dj was playing, Suzy was the one dj who stayed true to herself. I feel that if some of the Tampa djs who were more prominent back then, than Suzy was at the time, would have taken a similar approach and not sold out, we would not be "tranceless in Tampa" today.

I could not agree more! She still branched out...meaning outside of Tampa. I know damn well that Suzy did something that none of the others did. That's why I also wrote on here (FLTA) that I am proud of her.

XOXO

We have to support each other. Meeting new people is always fun but having the love and respect of old friends always runs deep.

Hey, I am planning on moving to Tampa in a year when I graduate....I'm a big trance fan also, but I can deal with "other" techno as long as the city, clubs and people are cool....Overall would you say Tampa is a good place to move, save the lack of trance??? Seriously, b/c that is where I have been wanting to move...

It's just the music scene that is annoying. If you like breaks then welcome to Tampa! Seriously, though...everything else here is cool.

If more tranceaddicts stepped forward and started making it known how much we would like to hear it in a club maybe club owners would allow the DJ's to spin it more often. In the meantime breaks and hip hop dominates. Maybe within a year things will be different.

personally I'd stay in Atlanta b/c the scene there is awesome and has a good bunch of awesome AtlTA's, but if you heart is set on Tampa then by all means come on down,.. we'll welcome you with open arms.... Tampa needs more trance heads!!
