re-read my post, it had nothing to do with united's current success but that ferguson is not a particularly good manager. He spent more money than anyone else ever had, and still managed to get the team almost relegated.

|
- Winning the first Premiership in 1993 (nb though there was football played before this year :P) there was more money in winning the league now than ever before than in the old Football league because of Murdoch/Sky. In other words, they won it at the best time.
- Becoming a PLC in the 80s and thus going on afloat on the stockmarket.
- Italia 90, this World Cup showed that football can be a business, and Man united got the idea from this World Cup.
- Alex Ferguson, his stayed on thus the success will stay on until he leaves. (his been at OT since 1986) Liverpool in the late 70s and 80s had there success (2 UEFA cups, 4 European cups and more...) through more than 1 manager, because of their bootroom system. Principles were kept the same because the 2 managers after Shankly's retirement were taught by Shankly.
I think Alex Ferguson and Man United havent prepared when Fergie leaves, quite suirely they will be in decline.
- Their Youth System of poaching youths from other clubs.
- The Board's Patience with Alex Ferguson when the man utd fans were holding up signs to have him sack before they won the FA cup in 1990 more like fluked it. Like I said his been at Old trafford since 1986. And MAN UNITED HAD THE MOST EXPENSIVE SIDE in 89/90 and I remember them getting walloped by City 5-1.
"FERGIE OUT" at the Theatre of shite. Ahh those were the days.
Ferguson came to Old trafford in 1986 and it took him untill 1993 to win the league.
Sorry if your brainwashed by Pay TV and the word "Premier league."

nothing like having an intelligent discussion spoiled
I still don't really see what your point is? United realised that sport could be a business before anyone else? Kudos to them in that case.
You can post league tables from 15 years ago all you like, but the point is that United were by far the most successful team of the 1990s by retaining a core group of players since their youth days. Clever bargain buys and the occasional splurge are also a big help.
But simply being the richest club doesn't equate to success - how many Russian mafia billions does Chelsea have access to, and what have they won to show for it? Year after year teams like Chelsea and Liverpool spend up big on the transfer market, but don't win shit.
This is why United have been sub-par this year, splashing out too much money to buy players that in the past they would have had coming through the youth ranks.

firstly welcome back Miss Helen, nice to see you on the boards again
secondly, there is only one team that is worth recognition in North London and that it is ofcourse. I think most people forget that a second team even exists there
Seriously though, I thinkl they will come back bigger and better next season. Jermaine Defoe really looks like a world class striker and alongside Keane, Spurs will score alot more goals. However, I really think there weakness lies in their midfield! they havn't got that creator to link with the strikers, maybe if they sign Van Bommel from PSV that will change though.

Respect goes out to the Gunners after a sublime season.
To all you Man U supporters, i ask this....
what happened at Old Trafford last week? I believe the answer would
be Liverpool kicked your sorry asses! Now makes Houlier's record 3 wins at Old Trafford. Man Utd's reign is over.
HOpefully Liverpool can get rid of some overpaid players, buy Cisse and Mexes and have a little more luck with injuries next season.
Liverpool owns! 18 Championships, 4 European Cups
Until one of the other teams betters this, i'm afraid i aint gonna be listenin

I support the mighty Queens Park Rangers.
Currently 2nd in Div 2, by 1 point, with 2 games to go! Nailbiting stuff, need to get 2nd spot for promotion to Div 1. COME ON YOU RRRRS
Its actually a lot more fun supporting a smaller club in my opinion!

Hehe nice post. I can't stand Fergie and Man Utd not that I'm a big fan of EPL anyways! Top English clubs get taken to school against top Spanish and Italian clubs, its just that they are way overhyped due to television and media.
AC Milan is the greatest club in the world and you know it!

No AC Milan did in the 80s. They even have their own TV channel, but in todays world no one else speaks Italian but Italians

Just wait and see... mafia dollars have been here for only one season mate. You need more time, so we will see next season. As for Liverpool, I don't remember them spending up big coz they don't have funds.

Leeds are down,, got beat 4-1 by Bolton....mind you if man city lose their remaining 2 games and leeds beat chelsea 40-0 away from home they got a mathematical chance of staying up....
