1992 and i was a clubber. I never was a "raver" outright but i did attend a lot of them.

I liked both scenes. The clubscene was a little more steady in my opinion and the rave scene was for when i was a little more adventurous. They both offered a great variety of fun.

Largest party in Toronto has to be Syrous 1999 (almost 20,000 i think) as well as Freakin 99. (not sure of the size but at least 15,000)

If i could go back in time i would. Nothing will beat the rave and club hayday in Toronto. although i love what I do now, i wish i had been doing it back then as well. I miss the choice of having 5 parties, plus guv, plus industry, plus a slew of other amazing clubs all on the same weekend. Now its pretty much guv, system, viva or bust.

Headliner favourites? Tough one. Peter and tyrone always rocked me, as did Mark Oliver. Carl Cox, Derrick Carter and Tenaglia were kick ass as well.

Within my first year? well back in 1992 it was all good. As for worst event in my whole life i honestly cant think of one. Except that lately the toronto clubscene is nothing but poser hip hop lounges... that i cant stand.

Most RAMMED event? Id have to say creamfields Buenos Aires, Pacha in Buenos Aires and one of the "e" parties back in 1996 in Toronto were the most rammed ive ever seen (PS ive been to all the labour of love's too) Oh and back in the day, the more "rammed" the better it was.

A) hard to say... started going to clubs late 2001-early 2002, but not the true clubs like guv and system, the ones that were top 40 shit... and because of that i started going to raves... so a CLUBBER at first, then a RAVER, now an AMALGAMATION

B) the rave scene is great for all out fun, but the club scene when surrounded with people that are there for the right reasons (ie music!) is much better

C) something @ the guv... prolly an all-access event. dave seaman and ferry corsten come to mind...

D) i would go back to catch the much-talked-about "true raves". and to see oakenfold in his prime.

E) SVEN VATH.

F) Brain Basher. some hardcore rave. i learned that night that raving was not for me anymore, and hardcore coupled with bad party favours gives you freaky-ass nightmares. spent most of the night on a chair with my hands over my ears, trying to keep the bass from blowing up my brain.

G) again, something @ the guv.

Summers End (now labour of love)

Re: Raver or Clubber

A) started in about 2000...I was a raver...met Ezekial at an Ascension party (those were the days)

B) rave scene...but hear better music now with the club scene althought I miss the vibe and friendliness of the rave scene

C) the very last Connected party...amazing!!!

D) definitely would go back in time...but just for a party or two

E) you have to ask...AVB baby!

F) Bittersweet at the CNE...think Donald Glaude or someone headlined...music wasn't the greatest and you weren't allowed to take in a camera or markers with you...they were convescated by security before you went in

E) Labour of love 2002...the back of my knees were sweating.

So do I, and I shall return once I get over my age.

Posted by liquidchick on May-07-2004 19:25:

I don't think it matters how old your as long as you know how to party and enjoy it. Of course, if your like zeroing on 40 and still wear fat pants with a tie...we've got a problem

I don't mind getting older now that the rave scene has died. I know a guy who is like 40 and still looks like a raver and goes to events at the Guv and System and I think he's pretty cool.

Being 30 and a teacher has me feeling pretty old when I see a 15 or 16-year-old grinding away on the floor in rave goo.

But then I just wear sunglasses and conduct myself with some composure to hide my indiscretions.

Re: Raver or Clubber

A) What was the year you started the scene and were you a RAVER or CLUBBER?
- Partied in the clubs in the early 90's but really got into the EDM scence in 1996 - def. clubber

C) What was the largest party you ever attended in Toronto?
LOL

D) If you had a choice to go back in time, would you?
- perhaps, for a night or two if I didn't take all that I have learned and where my music interests have matured to with me. If it could be all new and first time stuff again I'd enjoy some virgin nights again.

E) Which major HEADLINER was your personal favorite?
- In my trance days - Seb Fontane

F) Within' your first year, which event was the worst event you EVER attended?
- don't really remember any bad nights but my expectations were also much lower back when I started to party.

E) Most RAMMED event ever!!!
- pick any big headliner night in the guv.

Re: Raver or Clubber

A) What was the year you started the scene and were you a RAVER or CLUBBER?

clubber. first night out was sasha and digweed, december 2000 at twilo, nyc.

B) If you were a RAVER to start with, what do you like more ... the raves or the club scene?

N/A BUT i went to one rave in 2001 and really didn't like it. haven't been to another since...

C) What was the largest party you ever attended in Toronto?

i dunno. never been to any big parties in toronto. normally just nights with big talent. but i went to mayday last year...

D) If you had a choice to go back in time, would you?

good question. as far as parties go, NO.

E) Which major HEADLINER was your personal favorite?

duh. paul van dyk. but chris liebing and adam beyer are closing the gap and even knocking on the door...

F) Within' your first year, which event was the worst event you EVER attended?

one saturday night i was in nyc. it used to be 21+ till 4am on sat nights. my sister was not yet 21, so we ended up going to tunnel (18+ all night long) cause we didn't want to wait till 4 to go out. on tunnel's website they still said tenaglia was there on saturdays....umm..no he hadn't spun at tunnel in years??. i was so new, we didn't know. it was horrid. definitely the worst party of my first year.

E) Most RAMMED event ever!!!

i really don't know. there's been quite a few. i'd probably have to say the president's day party at twilo 2001: danny tenaglia and carl cox. i have never been that smushed for that long in my entire life! you couldn't move ANYWHERE...just a sea of smelly, sweaty people...

i had a great time nonetheless...

Yeah, I totally hear you. If I went to a rave now, I'd feel pretty old but atleast with the club scene you don't feel too old to be into the scene...know what I mean?

Oh...I think that's pretty cool that a fellow TA is a teacher.

are you a highschool teacher? what would you do if you saw one of your students at the guvernment, system, etc?

i once saw one of my teachers at the kool haus one night quite off his bean. he saw me too. At first we were both scared, me because i was underage, and him because one of his students was witnessing him off his bean, but then we both just realized it was a simpson's type scenario and laughed.

everytime i passed him in the hall after that we just looked at each other and smiled.

classic.

A) What was the year you started the scene and were you a RAVER or CLUBBER?

1996-1997 - RAVER

B) If you were a RAVER to start with, what do you like more ... the raves or the club scene?

Both very different times of my life. I'd have to say I enjoy both equally

C) What was the largest party you ever attended in Toronto?

Holy.. Now you're making me think... Syrous/Dose Parties, Effective@The Guv/Warehouse, WEMF's...

D) If you had a choice to go back in time, would you?

Who wouldn't want to be 16 again... LOL... It was fun, but it's all part of the past AND I wouldn't give up the people I party with today!

E) Which major HEADLINER was your personal favorite?

WAS??? I was a big fan of Marty McFly, Frisky, D-Minus, Anabolic, Peter & Tyrone, Sniper... And the list goes on

F) Within' your first year, which event was the worst event you EVER attended?

I'd have to say Hard Sound - too much went down that night

E) Most RAMMED event ever!!!

Has to be Hulla @ The Newz back then... Today, I'd have to say AVB @ The Guv

It's easy to spot ravers from a mile away. As teens, they have to 'live the rave', so with a little eavesdropping (not hard to do) one can avoid unfortunate mishaps.

Same thing with clubbers. If I met any students there, they would be using fake ID, so I've got the dirt on them. Unless I am spotted consuming anything, I can plausibly deny any accusations.

A) What was the year you started the scene and were you a RAVER or CLUBBER?

Sometime around 1994. When I was about 16 (I am now 25). Where were my parents, lol

B) If you were a RAVER to start with, what do you like more ... the raves or the club scene?

I am not a raver or a cluber, I am a ballet dancer that likes trance

C) What was the largest party you ever attended in Toronto?

I have not been to Toronto yet so I dunno. Ill get back to ya on that one.

D) If you had a choice to go back in time, would you?

NO!

E) Which major HEADLINER was your personal favorite?

I have lots of favs

F) Within' your first year, which event was the worst event you EVER attended?

F) Not in my first year, but I went to a party down in FLA years ago it was outside it rained it was muddy the security guards were nazis and there must have been some bad pills going around because I saw a lot of people fall over saddest party ever ugh

i know 2 teachers that party- one of them was relucatant to go to all ages events b/c he didn't want to see his students. i know of a prof who likes to party- saw him at the 1st labour of love- i'm pretty sure he was worried about seeing students out.

Posted by Sly_Guy on Jun-28-2004 17:50:

A) in 99', my sister heard me playing a gino/euro mix CD, and dragged me out to a rave, told me what was playing was real house music and I should give up on the crappy club stuff
B)Raves kicked some serious ass. Nothing could compare 2 feet of sway on a warehouse floor with 20,000 people all going nuts. Although sound quality is far better at clubs.
C)20,000 Idance festival in what was it? 2000? 15,000 at the better living center on NYE 2001.
D)Yes, I would go back in time and make myself older during the 90's to have been really able to appreciate it. I got old too late as the scene died
E)Seeing Bad Boy Bill at my first event was amazing, but then DJ Dan introdduced me to a little song called needle damage, and I could never choose between the 2. But then I went to the industry closing party with tenaglia, and well that settled my arguement on who was the best.
F) I was lucky, I didn't run into any bad events till I started going to clubs to see DJs.
G)Sasha and Digweed at Delta Heavy was pretty rammed, but I'm sure I've been to more rammed than that.

A) What was the year you started the scene and were you a RAVER or CLUBBER?

2002 first party was Nightmare Halloween party, Tiesto at the KH in decemeber 2002 was what got me hooked...

B) If you were a RAVER to start with, what do you like more ... the raves or the club scene?

I like them equally... it has to be a good rave... in Montreal the rave scene isnt as commercial as here and its still kinda ol'skool, ie not too commercial (cept for the big parties).. theres lots of small underground parties, loft parties, obscure candy raver parties with little to no advertising... but the music in the rave scene is nowhere near the music in the club scene... DJ's and sound systems...

C) What was the largest party you ever attended in Toronto?

Probably an all access KH/GUV party.. biggest in montreal was Bal en Blanc (+15,000)

D) If you had a choice to go back in time, would you?

Dunno, maybe if I got a taste of the scene in 95 i would...

E) Which major HEADLINER was your personal favorite?

Favourites... tiesto, PVD, sasha, max graham

F) Within' your first year, which event was the worst event you EVER attended?

Armin @ Guv 7 year... too rammed

G) Most RAMMED event ever!!!

Armin @ Guv 7 year

Im equally into the rave scene and the club scene...theres no club scene for Jungle so theres no choice there and plus I find that there's more interesting people at the raves than at the clubs...

I've got a new question to add to the list for all the old school parties from pre 2000....

H) What your craziest story about an olskool underground rave? (the ones where you had to know someone who knew someone who knew someone..)

I remember reading something about a party that was held in an underground parking lot and everyone was wearing bumblebee suits... dont remember who said it...

Posted by Sly_Guy on Jun-29-2004 02:44:

I've got a couple of those, to say the least.
First would probably have to be on a night when my friends decided to stay at a crappy house party, and I decided to head out to a rave by myself. Ran into a very large intimidating guy who was holding a fake butcher's cleaver, dressed up like a cook, with fake blood splattered on his apron reading 'the chef'. Man, I talked to the kid and he turned out to be a really cool person, and me not knowing anyone at the party that night had a good time cuz of it.
Another is my seeing a crazy hallucinogenic person tripping out. The worst thing out can do as a person who's high on hallucinogens is have a cape to make you believe you're some kind of superhero. Bad idea. But this guy had one, and man that kid looked absolutely crazy.
But my question is where have those days gone? I think I need to visit montreal on the next bal et blanc
