Don't smoke or the tobacco bogeyman might get you.

I don't understand what you people get from smoking, but if you enjoy it then be my guest. The chances you'll ever suffer any serious harm as a result of the habit are quite low, and no amount of propaganda is ever going to change that.

Posted by Jiffy on May-09-2004 06:05:

I think that all attempts to persuade someone to not smoke are redundant, as that people usually will not quit for others, but only when they truly want to.

But, I think we should keep on tellin' this kiddo to quit. Jeeze, I'm still in absolute amazement that they'd start a thread about this.

I'm new. Or, I could have just decided to block the horror from my memory.

You're bragging about getting cigarettes as if everyone here were underage.

I think they should restrict membership to TA to age 18+.

Oh, and I smoke, but only because I lived in Europe and it was pretty much a part of the lifestyle there.

it might go something like this

"i started smoking pot two weeks ago, and man, i feel like im somewhere else, in a new dimension" and then an array of stupid questions could follow

ex:
whats it like to fly?

also, this guy seems to be the ever so curious type, thus tobacco is his gateway drug, because after he tries weed, all hell will break lose in his brain (i can imagine him now, getting some, llello, shrooms, tweek, K, and all sorts of shit)

hey thread starter, do yourself a favor and kill yourself now, before the drugs take over

hhahahahaha @ everything but the kill yourself part. That's not being a nice little sweetiepie, now is it?

BUT, if he likes his smoke this much... wouldn't you hate to be holdin some blow at a party and him ask you for a bump?

And then 2 seconds later.. weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, one of those people that just won't leave ya the fuck alone.

hahaha

I'm mean.

i'm shutting up now.

I agree that KB is behaving like a twit, but that's a terrible idea. The vast majority of idiots are generally over 18. Yes, a lot of people under 18 have no idea how irritating they can be, but irrespective of that, there are moronic adults as well. How about just banning people who come across as stupid via there posts?

Of course, I have a vested interest in all of this, because I myself am under 18 - and hypothetically you'd be banning me if a rule like that was implemented.

Eh, think about it, there are a hell of a lot more people in the world that are over 18, just because of that fact alone there are gonna be a lotta dumbasses.

plus, a lot of those dumbasses that are under 18, grow up and stay jackasses after turning 18.

I blame tv.

People have REALLY been slacking on the parenting skills the past several years. How else can you explain all of this bullshit about teenagers shooting up schools, and such. I mean, come the fuck on.

Some of these kiddos should have gotten a few more assbeatings, and maybe they wouldn't be so OFF. THEY NEED PARENTAL GUIDANCE, not a TV Dinner and video games.

Point taken - but the fact remains that banning according to age isn't going to solve anything, because there are idiots of all ages. Simply banning everyone under 18 would cut quite a few of the political forum regulars out, and although it wouldn't be long before I was unbanned - there are lots of 17 year olds who post if I remember the last 'age poll' correctly.

EDIT: http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/...hreadid=157132 - there you have it, at 17 was almost the biggest age group according to this particular poll.

actually last I heard the rate of school shootings n such hasn't really gone up at all. In fact it has been the same for quite sometime. Since it finally happened in a upper/middle class neighborhood major news channels covered it like crazy. Go to some high schools in LA or NY and see their violence records.

and I think parents aren't allowed to parent the way they want. they were raised one way, do bad, get punished. However the way the legal system is going they are outlawing most forms of punishment that was common place for the parents nowadays when they were kids. So now they are left clueless since they got all their ideas about parenting from their own parents.

I say we put birth control in the water supply, then when a couple passes a competency exam for parenting, they then get the antidote, have their kid, and then they are right back on it.

yes I know the population would drop considerable, but after a few generations, the world would be a better place.

Devil's advocacy is overrated - it's more fun to demolish the arguments of people who are actually wrong rather than people who are just pretending to be wrong.

rofl @ headspins

"man ciggarettes make me high, i get the most wicked headspins!"

how old is this guy anyways? does he realise that after a week of smoking cigs dont do that to you any more? i love smoking but its not like i treat it as a drug or anything, moreso just something to do...

sorta like going out and having coffee... you sit down, have a drink and a chat - its not about the caffeine, its just about chilling out for a bit

I understand what you're saying. Totally. I was just using the shootings as an example I can definitely tell you, though, that children's attitudes in school, towards parents and other authority figures has DEFINITELY declined. Kids these days try to get away with ALOT of stuff that I KNOW was not something that was the norm "back in my day". I've spoken with teachers about this recently, and it's bullshit.

Yeah, and parents aren't able to parent like they were raised. Sure. They're afraid to. I mean, hell, if you whip your child, if you dn't watch out- you could be a child abuser.

That's crap. I STRONGLY support corporal punishment, as long as it is appropriate, ya know. SPank your kids BUTTS when they curse you, throw a punch at you, or act out in school.

I got whippings when I was a kid. I can say that, it definitely taught me to learn decision making, and how to rationalize- HEY, if I do THIS I'll get a whipping, and that would be bad. Lately, with all of this anti-spanking crap, what's to keep a kid from NOT being a little turd?

blame them stupid psychologist, they found in some studies that when you physically punish there are negative attitudes er something that form in the kid, making it bad. These negative thoughts don't form when you use punishment other than the physical kind.

jeesh, they think that time out is gonna work....

wait, im a psychologist.....damn it.

Oh. Man. Dood. What's up with all that psychobabble that has gone on in the past few years? I mean, no spanking, all that b.s.

I mean, it's almost as if the children are the ones calling the shots, and the parents can't do anything about it.
