Interestingly there hasn't been anyone from Holland to reply to this.
If there's any country without age limit to EDM it's Holland
You can see people of all ages there, I just love it, and I'll definetly move there when I get 1st chance

As a 38 year old i could take offense to that

Also, tell that to some of the big name DJ's (i.e. PvD, Oakenfold, Sasha, Digweed, Carl Cox, etc). They are near 40 as well.

Hey Neo, think you'll still be spinning 10 years from now?

Personally though, i have yet to go to a club and hear these well known DJ's spin, but given the chance, i would go see them. You would probably find me in one of the corners just mellowing to the music (no chemicals needed, unless it was beer )

It's not about physical age, it's about your frame of mind.

i remember not so long ago, i was at a club and this old man was on stage shaking his groove thang.

didn't take long to notice, they stop the music, shine a huge spot light on him. and they dj is all like, "someone tell Mr Rogers to get off the stage."

so embarassing. kind of wanted to feel sorry for him, but i was too busy laughing my ass off.

Clearly the dj in this club was a f**king as**ole !!!
Can you imagine Sasha or Markus Schulz or Armin dipping the music
to abuse a member of the crowd, erm no.

I am 34years old, I still go out as much as poss, most of my club
buddies are 10-12years younger than me but we never even think about
it. Last time I went out I stood next to Armin singing with him to
"NoOne On Earth" clearly HE doesn't feel like there's an age limit
for clubbers enjoying themselves

OK, that was a terrible thing to do to anyone.

Who was the dj? I wanna remember so I never go and listen to his sets.

What a turd!

Posted by DjCommisad on May-13-2004 11:43:

screw that.

most ppl who listen to trance out west are older people from asia. not all, but many of the caucasians in bc here are little 15-18 year old raver kids who only come out to get high.

i say, no age limit.

you're never too old to love the music you love.

Posted by DJDavidScott on May-13-2004 12:14:

Since when is there an age limit on electronic music???? Sure, ya may not want to go to clubs when you are older, but the music still stays.

If that is what you think...and others...You may want to re visit the reason you are passionate about the music...no??

Posted by peterdjsgirl on May-13-2004 16:39:

Ok, I am really not sure what to think about some of those posts. I am in the older age group and still enjoy going out. A couple of things to note, based on some of the posts...
Just because someone goes to a club does not mean the person is dropping anything or being irresponsible. No matter what their age. Please don't assume everyone involved with EDM is doing drugs... just not true.

Another point... most EDM is made for club play, I personally would hate to hear my favorite songs just on a CD. I want to hear it big, see the crowd react , and dance my butt off! If I am into the music, my age isn't going to change that.

The comment about DJ's retiring... I found that interesting, I know that some have retired and others will also, but when you hit 40 you don't have to pack up your decks and go home. Being a musician is part of who you are, NOT just a job. It doesn't go away just because the current crowd at the club is younger instead of the same age as you.

So in responce to the original question... YES take your friend to see any DJ that you guys like. I am sure most TA's will welcome him in as a fellow music lover. No one has ever been rude to me or my husband, and we felt just fine being up front by the speakers. In fact I am sure I have seen several of you TA's at various shows.... Those of you who feel uncomfortable around older adults need to realize that you are an adult... the sooner you get over judging people on exteriors, the more you will enjoy life.

EDM unifies a whole culture throughout our world... regardless of age, race, location, personal style...

What do you guys think?

Can older people fit in with EDM? How old is too old?

How do you guys react to them?

I'd like to hear the positives and the negative.

You can never be too old! How old is old to you? Why should people not be able to go out and enjoy good music just because someone views them as older? Should you be stuck at home once you turn a certain age? Of course not! Someone "older" being out enjoying music should be no different than someone that is younger...they both enjoy the sound of trance. They didn't have music like this when they were younger so give them a break and enjoy the knowledge that something like trance music can bridge a generation gap.

Also...remember that a lot of the DJ's and artists that you are listening to are in their 30's and some are even older than that. Should they just stop making music when they hit a certain age? If they are good...I hope not.

Posted by b4k-oz on May-13-2004 17:35:

Personally I think older people should be allowed to enjoy EDM at clubs and events. I think it's rude when I see someone belittling the older person because they have good taste too.

I think if an older person (30-50) likes EDM, it's a credit to young people bcuz the music is good enough to earn their respect. Not all of us rebel. Some may even think that dj's like digger and cox are bad mouthing Trance bcuz they are ashamed of grewing too old for Trance.

For the Record, I think your only as young as you feel, right?

I say party on!!!!!!

I'm 40, been into EDM since it exists, still love Trance and I enjoy clubbing. What exactly is the problem?

I will continue to spin trance, listen to trance and go clubbing for trance as long as trance still makes me feel like it has done for the last 14 years
I am now 35 and got into trance when i was about 21.
i don't feel out of place at clubs with younger ppl, i have seen older ppl at clubs and most of the ppl i know and go clubbing with (the UKTA's) are in thier 20's and they accept me as i accept them.
ppl who love trance

No probs really, just a friend who's afraid to go clubbing bcuz he thinks others there might think he's too old to be there. So I started this thread to see if he's right about his assumptions.

I'm glad most are accepting.

Posted by peterdjsgirl on May-13-2004 21:18:

you know what's funny... I am willing to bet that most of us older ones who enjoy EDM, have been listening to it since the beginning. And for those of us that's true for... trance hasn't even "earned our respect" necessarily, its that we have enjoyed watching and hearing it grow from the natural progression of EDM.

If anything, I would prefer to be seen as a seasoned veteran, who really understands what it is all about

Posted by Izra on May-13-2004 23:40:

To all of you TA's who are over 30 - I hope I am still like you when I am that age !! Keep being kewl, congrats for not taking on the stereotypes of your age.

I am 20 now, I have been into trance for 3 years. I know for sure that I will not keep up with the party scene after I am 25, but I know I will still love the music. I will go to lounges and smaller bars that play EDM, and will always enjoy it. I know this is true because I don't really listen to any other types of music...

Posted by lyoun11 on May-14-2004 04:02:

Let's hope there's no age limit on that, cause I plan on listening to trance my whole life.

There's a pretty old guy that comes the the local top 40 club in San Bernardino, but everyone gives him respect and are glad to see him. They laugh at him cuz he looks funny dancing but most of the time they high five him and he even won the wet t-shirt contest on his birthday cuz everyone was cheering for him. I was happy that people have a hope that even when they get old they will still be able to party. So many girls were grinding on him on his birthday, I was happy the old guy was getting some action at his age too.

Posted by MunkyAngel on May-14-2004 04:47:

NO NEVER! Just because you get old doesn't mean you can't listen to the same music you have listened to for many years!!!

Posted by Mortyman on May-14-2004 04:47:

Well, I''ve been told there's no such thing as a stupid question,

... but this my friend, is a stupid question

I don't know how anyone can think there's an age limit to liking music

Posted by webmeister on May-14-2004 06:25:

My old man is 60 and he likes my CDs
He goes out to some dance parties as well (though different places to what I go to).

I know of another AUTA who's father got him into the music

Moral is you're never too old....

imo it's not a stupid question!

Like I said, my friend is afraid to go to EDM clubs cuz he once heard talk about an older couple that were so plastered and dancing really weird. So now he won't go and enjoy the music he loves bcuz he thinks others will laugh at him (his age) and won't want him there having fun too.
