well, vidro, big matsui and jeter haven't been great all season. matsui picked it up, but jeter's still slumping, i think.

here's my idea for the mets, of course it won't happen but is feasible (and this is all if we're completely out of the running by the all star break):

trade piazza. i know, i know... he is the heart of the team and the big ticket draw. but he is still good enough that if we trade him to an AL team, we could get a few good prospects in return. how bout the angels? they could use another big bat in that lineup and they have a really good farm system. so we trade piazza, who do we have at catcher? well, either phillips (if he starts hitting) or move up huber or jacobs to play. then, in the off season, forget right field. re-sign garcia and spencer. they're doing a decent job for 14 million less than magglio is likely to get. so instead or right field, we go after a first baseman. richie sexson or carlos delgado. david wright should be up next year, so ou lineup could possibly look like this:

Matsui (though he's been hitting much better out of the two spot)
Reyes (mayeb he should lead off)
Floyd
Sexson/Delgado
Garcia
Cameron
Wright
Huber/Jacobs/Phillips

just a thought... trust me, i love piazza, but if we could get some good prospects while dumping his salary, i'd do it. plus, maybe with the money we save, we COULD go after magglio. we'd likely have to if we get delgado to put a righthander between him and floyd.

most of all, i just pray that kazmir is ready to come up by then... i have a video of kazmir pitching if either of you want to see it. its funny watching the centerfielder, cause he basically just stands there cause he knows kaz is gonna strike the batter out. just pm me or im me on aim. same nick as this one.

vidro just signed a 4 year extension with the expos looks like the yanks wont get thier hands on him at the trade deadline hehe

Posted by mets4012 on May-15-2004 14:56:

signing delgado will mean giving him about 20 mil/yr. i think sexson would be the better pick up

i know! i am so happy for vidro and the expos. it would've been awesome if vlad stayed there too. i hope they can re-sign cabrera too. give them a nice middle of the infield backbone to build the future around.

didnt the d-backs just sign sexson long term? i dont think they want to get rid of him at all. i think my white sox would be happy to trade you one of our first basemen. you can have your choice between the over-the-hill frank thomas model or the underachieving paul konerko model. come trade deadline one these guys are going to be gone, hopefully we dont have to package them with someone else like maglio.

Posted by Shamez214 on May-15-2004 22:06:

i'm almost positive they didn't sign sexson to an extension...

a rod goes 3 for 5 with 2 hrs brining his avg to .291. he is swinging a pretty good bat of late

Posted by Shamez214 on May-16-2004 04:10:

i wish he would've got hit in the face with the ball and not posada... so glad the mets never got him.

although he always wanted ot play for the mets so maybe he would be different. at least i find pleasure in the fact that the rangers (so far) are doing better without him. just like the mariners did.

Posted by mets4012 on May-16-2004 22:17:

anyone else watch the mets game today? what a game mets go into the 9th with 2 outs and runner on first and piazza hits a hr to tie it and then phillips hit a hr in the 13th to win it. clemens and ginter pitched great games. astros should be kicking themselves in the ass for this game. they had so many chances to win this game. in the 11th they had the bases loaded with berkamn up to bat and grounded out.

Posted by Shamez214 on May-16-2004 23:43:

that was an awesome game. 'stros left 17 on base. yikes. clemens pitched awesome and it was only fitting that piazza took the win away. ginter looked good too, 8 hits but got outs when he needed them. phillips looks like he's busting out. 2 doubles, a homer, 4 rbi the last two games. 3.5 back of first. yay!

how bout ben sheets striking out 18 braves yesterday? to which my cynical friend replied "it isn't 20" (he's a huge clemens fan). of course he was joking... but 20 k's have been done by clemens and wood. this is BEN SHEETS!!!!! and it's not like they were playing the pirates or expos. it was a good team. that is just incredible. anyone who had him on their fantasy team yesterday made out big time

hmmm... i just noticed a strange coincidence...

ben sheets struck out 18 braves.
the rangers and tigers scored 18 runs in the 5th inning.
and alex cora homered after, yup, an 18 pitch at bat.

strange strange strange is the game we love
