Future Shop bar none. Yesterday I broke my panasonic mp3/cd player (after just having
bought a 3 year warranty) because I know
that it would break. So I go to return it.
And get an upgrade to the Panasonic Shock system thing (an exchange). Boom, "no sorry the warranty doesn't cover user damages" I was in shock...I just stood there. "sorry" she says. Meanwhile like months ago I bought one at Radioshack (Panasonic) and returned it no questions asked (it was damaged). So screw them, never again.

My vote would have to go to Bell Sympatico........WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!!

For those who think sympatico is ok.......wait till you have to return the modem........they will try to screw you...I had to fight with them for over 2 months because they said I didn't return my modem, when I did.......I also know a few other ppl @ work that went through the same thing.

F****N Bell!!

Posted by MarkT on May-19-2004 00:52:

Future Shop is the worst...no question. Clerks that don't know their products...that's my biggest beef with that place.

It's not completely their fault...they get paid shit and are more concerned with selling instead of helping you...they're not customer service people, they're sales clerks. THAT is the problem right there with many places. Customer service is seen as merely a "cost" by so many businesses...because it takes more effort and time to measure how happy your customers are vs. crunching sales numbers.

the worst is canadian tire... NEVER.. EVER GET YOUR CAR REPAIRED THERE!!!

i simplly got my break pads changed there and the fuckin idiot mechanic chips my rims ... i talk to the manager and the dude calls me a LIAR!!!!!!

he said it was like that when it got there and that im trying to rip them off... and i get in his face and the bitch just walks away.. and punk ass mechanic denied any fault.

stupid bitches.

i hate canadian tire.

I'm a master of complaining at idiotic salespeople, usually if the manager gives me hell, I write the VP and tell him, that I will never shope there again and tell everybody I know. It works.

anyway, worst customer service award goes to..........

Homehardware (now rona I believe)

They are the worst people on the face of this earth, I go in the store to buy the following a)A new pair of needle nose pliars and b)a huge roll of duct tape. I find the pliars without help, tho some idiot kept asking me if I needed a set of them, like fuck you, I need just one pair cuz I own 7 other types but this is took the worst customer service stupidity award. I go around trying to find duct tape (yes people, you know the color of it, you know what it is, even ladies who don't use tools, have a clue what it is) but they don't. I can't seem to find it, so I ask the store manager, where is the duct tape and his reply was geniune and as a result I have never been back there. He first said hold on, I'm busy, he was doing nothing, helping no one, stared at space for 3 mins then goes ok, I said where is the duct tape and his reply was the following "WHAT IS DUCT TAPE?". I said you really are a stupid mother******, left the pliars in an aisle and left. I have never been to a RONA or HomeHardware since and they have lost my business. I went to home depot and found a huge roll and a pair of pliars that was 8 bucks cheaper with a lifetime warranty. How can you be a store manager at a hardware store and have no clue what duct tape is.

that's pretty fucking gay.

have you ever worked a sales job?

getting paid $8 an hour to make sure every customer is serviced, and meetign quotas/goals, when you know very well that out of everyone that comes in, only 75% are going to buy something. breaking those 65/100 down further, 60 know what they want, and only 15 really need your help.

they're also there to prevent pilferage, which only keeps the prices low. they don't choose to 'hound' you, it's THEIR JOB.

so stop being a little bitch, and go get a degree in integrity, because your bitch ass business degree will get you nowhere without it.

The Bay...

It's even worse cuz they treat you like shit (or totally ignore you) to your face

Posted by mot10n on May-19-2004 03:56:

i would have to say futureshop, by far.

bought a 3 year warranty on my minidisc (mzr900 - highest model available before the netMDs came out) cuz it's a big purchase and i know i was going to be using it often. the dude that sold it to me said that it wouldn't need to be fixed if something broke, they would just do an exchange.

well, 2 years later, it breaks. go in expecting an exchange. turns out the dude lied to me, and even better, he was fired. so now i need to go through the 30 day warranty work. pissed me off, but nothing is coming out of my pocket, so it's all good.

30 days rolls around, the unit still isn't back from being serviced. now this is where i get pissed off. i quote their "30 days or you get a new one" policy on their warranty slip, and the manager agrees with me. so he goes and grabs a model that does half the things that my broken one did. "but it's netMD" he says. i tell him that means shit to me since i use the digital line-in. i had to bitch at him for over 45 min, holding up the "customer service" line all the while, to finally get a spec-for-spec exchange. but not without a catch: i have to purchase another 3 year warranty.

$80 isn't a bad deal to insure a peice of electronics that i use every day, but to go through all the shit to have them actually do what should've been done in the first place?

i give a big fuck you to futureshop for that. greedy bastards. i seriously hope i never have to set foot in one ever again.

Posted by PartyHarlequin on May-19-2004 04:20:

Can't complain about rogers, beyond their tendency to put too many people on one grid.

But ya future shop... and radioshack. I've had return issues and warranty issues with both.

On a plus note- The guys at Bay Bloor Radio are really helpful and they carry some choice equipment.

Posted by djeso on May-19-2004 04:23:

had them all bell, sympatico, rogers, telus and blah blah

worst service experience i had was with BELL, then the SONY store, telus was actually ok.

I have rogers, never down, no problems, customer service is terrible with everyone, cause they don't speak english at all.

Posted by Matt on May-19-2004 05:19:

remember that employees at Mcdonalds, Canadian Tire, etc. are making SHIT wages and work for ASSHOLE managers.

I face this situation at Loblaws... I do my best to help out customers, but when they start giving me shit, it just goes in one ear and out the other.

I agree, i read most of the posts on this thread it seems like people like it their way or the highway, if a company says its against their terms policy and conditions, there is nothing they can do about it, you all need to read everything carefully before purchasing warrantys etc.

In rgds to customer serive, most people who are posting here have no idea, since i work in customer service, you are expected to meet high targets..

By the way its their job to ask and probe you? they arent some mind readers!!!!!

so give them a break and let them do their job

I have had my share of bad customer service, a sales rep on the phone and a retail store are totally diffrent people and expectations btw!!

Most terrible ones are the ones at retail stores, i have to wait like a hour before i can ask questions sometimes.

oh, yeah, i remember a radio shack store where the sales guys was an asshole. laughed at my question because it was a simple one and then told me he can't help me. what a jerk. so it wasn't even anything about warranties or anything like that, it was about buying something in the store. i turned around and never going to buy anything at radioshack, they are way overpriced anyway.

Posted by starsearcher on May-19-2004 16:53:

Never buy extender warranties from Future Shop...it's a waste of money and it's basically how they make money...they are instucted to sell warranty and even get special bonuses if they do...warranty IS Futureshop's money maker....

of course, but on something worth $700, it makes sense to pay an extra $80 for 3 years coverage. keep in mind that if something messed up after sony's first year, i would be totally screwed for repair. you know how much the sony store charges for parts and labour? it's insane. for some things, an extended warranty does make sense.

i'm not mad about that, i'm mad about the fact that i had to bitch and complain for them to cover what they should be covering in the first place.

sure it does...

the first time I took the extended warranty was years ago when I bought my first computer, paid like $300+ for that, and the only thing that went wrong in the 3 years the warranty covered me was a little $2 fan gave up and a $40 power supply died. For both of those I had to wait for like a week for the mo'fuckaz to fix it. Moral of the story --> should've kept the money.

the second time I took extended warranty was for my cd burner that cost like $250 (paid like $60 for 2 years or something)... and the good thing is, it died on me maybe a month before the warranty was out, so I went in to replace it with "the similarly priced model" by the standards at the time, and all I got was a $40 cheap-ass cd burner instead. Moral of the story --> should've kept the money.

the third time I took extended warranty... well, guess what. there will be no third time!

Just make sure that you get a tracking # if you have to send it anywhere. If the store gives you a reciept of some kind make sure that you date it and keep it for at least 6 months.....I was contacted 5 months after I returned saying I hadn't....they aren't the quickest bunch @ Bell
