Once you quit, you'll feel the same way . But to be honest, I don't care whether you guys quit or not. I don't even know why I posted that.

I just want all you smokers to go somewhere else, and get the hell away from me, so I can enjoy my clubbing in peace.

smoking is good for society.

it makes people die faster.

Posted by MarkT on May-19-2004 02:19:

I offer no argument for or against...from purely a selfish standpoint, good riddance. I'm more concerned that extra attention will now be drawn to me sparkin' a j inside a club :P

but smoking made me cool like a wolf, how can i quit now?

what will coffee be good for anymore? what can i smoke after a joint now???

thank god in hamilton you can smoke anywhere you want. even in mcdonalds and church.

There is no reason you smokers can't go outside....

Smoking inside is disgusting !! I think it is appalling that you smokers are against the ban. You are being selfish because you smoke, and are not thinking about other clubbers who don't smoke, and are not considering the workers.

STFU and go outside !

The same can we said for drinking at clubs and poppin pills.
It's going to be a little frightening to see all the true nicotine addicts battling out their withdrawal on the dance floor. I mean who really wants to go outside to smoke?
We gotta rememeber that this bylaw was passed in order to protect the club/bar workers rather than the actual clubbers. It's this fact which makes the whole idea so ridiculous.

The by-law wasn't passed on behalf of the clubbers, though. I'm completely positive that this law won't last long here on the East Coast. The only reason it works in Cali is because it's a state filled with health nuts.

Drinking and doing drugs does not directly affect others, SECOND HAND SMOKE DOES. I am not a huge smoker hater or anything, I just think the smoking ban is a great idea. I don't get why anyone would argue with it !! It has happened in other cities and it has worked.

Posted by mute79 on May-19-2004 16:49:

50,000,000 smokers can't be wrong!!

You don't see how smokers would argue with it? And yes drinking and drugs does directly affect other people, especially women. Don't tell me you (whom I presume to be female) never get your ass grabbed by random guys at clubs? That's just one example...you should know what I'm talking about....

Posted by LKD on May-20-2004 05:05:

they should also put a ban on shirtless sweaty ginos in clubs cos that affects everyone they touch

(ewwwwwwwwwwwwww)

Posted by Jayx1 on May-20-2004 11:18:

i guess alcohol just reaches out there and grabs your ass? i guess we should restrict the length of the bottle necks then eh?

Seriously...

Posted by Fir3start3r on May-20-2004 13:18:

I'm just worried that the 'designated smoking rooms' will turn into some concentrated-inhale-2-packs-as-you-barge-your-way-to-the-washrooms-gauntlet.

If any club blocks their washrooms with the designated smoking room I'm goin' snap!

I mean...what would the fuckin' point be???

Posted by Orko on May-20-2004 14:14:

if im gonna smoke a J, i am polite enough to go outside if it is going to bother the people around me(in a private setting)...if others dont wanna smoke pot why should i force it upon them with second hand smoke?

Seriously...

there is no such thing as second hand drinking or pill popin! and as for the 'grabing the ass' comment...thats a person's actions, not the actions of the actual drug in question. us non smokers have to put up with peoples 'nic fits' when they havent had one in a long time. so that would be equivelent in your terms...but would you consider that a direct negative outcome of smoking? i wouldnt. I would consider that to be the fault of the smoker, not the smoke.

Well said, I second that Orko !

Even though the bylaw is being passed for the employees of smoking-permitted establishments, it still benefits the clubbers !!

You don't think it will work in Toronto? Your completely positive? Well there is a smoking ban in Ottawa where I go to school, and in Kingston where I live for the summer, and YUP, last time I checked, it's working great in both of these cities. I mean Toronto is different then these cities for sure, but Toronto is also more advanced. I know this ban will stick because Kingston, little teeny Kingston, has more advanced health laws then Toronto.

I am assuming you are a smoker??

Posted by Jayx1 on May-20-2004 20:06:

Im glad these people who passed the law on my behalf, the non smoking club worker, asked me how i felt before they were so gracious.

I would have told them to back off as i like my job and would like to keep it by putting up with a little smoke twice a week.

This law is going to be great for bars with patios and ins and outs but superclubs are going to suffer large....

Anyone who stays home on a saturday night because they can't smoke inside the club, has serious issues !!

I mean sure, I can understand you being sceptical about loosing your job, but honestly, after the smokers adjust, it will be the same. Besides, these super clubs, IMO, could use a few less ppl anyway. *hint hint* THE GUV. I am assuming thats where you work??

Any smokers planning on staying home forever, because you can't smoke inside public places?? Come on, don't be shy...

Posted by Jayx1 on May-20-2004 20:21:

YES! Toronto needs LESS clubbers!! Thats the way to go! LOL LOL

People who smoke DO HAVE issues... its called an addiction to smoking and its very powerful. Even powerful enough to keep them home on saturday nights.

A friend of mine works int he catering business and she says her boss is ecstatic about the new laws because apparently catering business in other cities with this law has doubled. That should say something in itself!

Oh beleive me, I know this !! Quite a few of my friends smoke, and they can make it 8 hours without smoking when we go out. When they do this, it actually helps them slow down during the week, which saves them money, and is better for thier health.

I totally understand where you are coming from, because you think this is going to majorly effect Toronto in a negative way, including your job. Honestly it's not as big of a deal as you think it is. Once the smokers adjust, like they have where I live, you will appreciate the ban. I Prrrrroooommmiiiiseeee. And if they have to striaght up close the GUV cause of the ban, you can hold me resonsible. lol
