The reasons why there isn't that many differences is because the federal gov't bends over backwards and takes it in the a** for Quebec.

Just to passify Quebec, the federal gov't gives so many "freebies" to the province that the only way growth could be stiffled is if 100% of Quebec's population got up and moved out of the province.

If I ever start another business - I'm doing it in Quebec. With all the tax favors, credits and subsidies one gets just for being in Quebec it's almost impossible to go out of business.

Posted by malek on May-19-2004 03:27:

i know what you are reffering to rj. These programs were abolished when the provincial Liberal govt got elected. Also, Federal transfers were reduced by about 700 million this year and for every subsequent year to Quebec due to its economic vigor.

the best place to do buisness is still in alberta right j_spot?

We talked about this at work as well...SHIT man ...I will have to pay $600 for OHIP while the rich assholes will only have to pay $900...what the FUCK is that eh?

A VERY pissed RobbyG.

Im all for the alberta advantage

Gotta love how rather than fight for the apparent surplus the Federal Fiberals have been hoarding (read-over taxing and not transfering the money back to the provinces) from us for years, claiming fiscal wellness, McGuinty decides to come after the average Ontario citizen for it.

Gotta love all you fucking idiots that fear-monger about the conservatives, taking the moral highground on flimsy social issues, and paint the picture of a religous zealot right in this country.

The Liberal party @ both levels has just been fucking peachy haven't they. I'm seriously looking @ leaving this country. It's hard enough to get by here fiscally, and now not only do they keep our Federal tax dollars and sit on it, they use it as a reason to rape our measely paycheques even further @ the provincial level.

Bravo ppl, hope you are beaming about your choices you checked off your ballot last year. Hell, the federal NDP is actually looking attractive now that Jack Leyton is heading it up, and that loon Alexa McDonough is gone... and making them look good is quite the feat Mr. Martin.

Have room for one more?? After seeing all the hedonism following a Flames victory, it certainly looks like a viable alternative to this decaying province.

Posted by Jayx1 on May-19-2004 11:28:

i wont be living in ontario for the rest of my life. I made that decision a long time ago. This just hardens it. Also.... can u ever imagine the hedonism of calgary flames parties in Toronto? NOPE!

As for thinking about voting NDP? PLEASE DONT MAKE A BAD SITUATION EVEN WORSE!

Posted by TrueToTheCrew on May-19-2004 13:50:

More for less. Fuk the liberals.

Ill be sure to cheat on my taxes this year.

Fuk em.

Posted by malek on May-19-2004 14:22:

your conservatives left a 6B deficit... the Liberals have no choice but to get more revenues... get more taxes. why is it so complicated to understand??

you guys are living large, and you can't afford it!

Funny thing is that the nurses are bitching, the teachers are bitching and the unions are bitching... just like the old PC days except NOW WE GET HIGHER TAXES AS WELL!

i knew this guy was a shady piece of work and i warned everyone i knew.

PS hes broken more than just 2 promises. Try 25 promises and breaking the law which is what this budget does since it doesnt call for a referendum on raising taxes which is actually THE LAW.

if this is the law? can you show proof so we can actually do something? you had mentioned that mcguinty signed something saying he wouldnt raise taxes...if he did then we can do something?

the new health premium

something like $900/year/person

if the government is going to charge that, shouldn't I be able to opt out?

He signed the taxpayers protection pledge with the ontario taxpayers federation and there is a law that the tories passed saying that you must hold a referendum before you raise taxes. However, in a completely communist move, the Liberals will change that with the stroke of a pen in order to accomodate this budget.

The only way they can get them is if they make a case for the taxpayer protection pledge. I hope they get those bastard.

ANd yes i want to opt out too....

here is some math for you...

47% of ALL government money is used to fund health care. An average person's taxes including the sales tax they pay is around 50-55% of that. So lets take a person making $50,000 for example.

25,000 goes to taxes. of that about 12,000 is used to pay for their health care for a year.

Are you telling me that if i had private coverage it would cost me 12,000 per year????? i highly doubt it... Id get much much better service privately for more like 3000 per year and maybe 5000 per family.

Now think of people who make even more and what they pay. Not to mention all the business taxes and user fees they pull in.

WE ARE GETTING HOSED IN THE NAME OF HEALTH CARE!

We should abolish the whole system and set up a private/public partnership with stringent guidelines and guarunteed universality. This would still ensure that everyone gets the treatment they need but with better service and less cost.

Sadly the lefties have done a good brainwashing job on canada with that magic buzzword "2 tier" which would never exist under this model.

Posted by j_spot on May-20-2004 07:34:

COME HERE!
Really, alberta wants you.

Im a full time student, who made 14K last year, working part time, and I got every penny of tax back.
and really, I dont mind the 7% GST
no PST, or GAY LPST

sure, weve got user fees on some things, but I think the quality of living is better out here.

anyways...
I really do need to look into who to vote for in this next election..Ever since I dont have Preston to vote for, its not so easy.

Posted by Jayx1 on May-20-2004 11:29:

id go to alberta but its bloody cold out there....

otherwise it would be looking like a good option.

Ontario sucks more and more..... and its sucking the money out of my wallet too!

LOL

Ontario Finance Minister Greg Sorbara tabled the Provincial budget Tuesday, calling on Ontarians to shoulder much of the fiscal responsibility to get the province back on track by freezing spending in 15 ministries and re-establishing a health premium. To let Premier McGuinty know what you think of the Liberal budget you can contact the Premier at...

While government will save $93 million by eliminating chiropractic coverage, the additional direct costs from patients accessing physicians, emergency departments and drugs will exceed $200 million.... Now THERE is a great budget move.

Not to mention, it creates the dreaded two-tier health care system. If I want great care for a musculoskeletal problem, I can go see an expert, but have to pay out of my pocket. However, someone without that money would have to go see an MD instead, and may get less optimal care.
