Also if you install something like Windows 2000 with FAT32 you can not apply the local security settings. Has to be NTFS for that to work.

what do you mean by this? My network client (win98 @ fat32) can read the files on my network server (winxp @ NTFS).

I know the client can't read the HD when it's plugged into it's motherboard, but they CAN read the files over the network

He means pretty much what you said.
You can share files because that's 2 separate operating systems. But if you have your main OS as a FAT32 installation then you will not be able to read secondary hard drives that are installed on the same machine if they are NTFS.
