Tantra is not a bad venue, it is fairly small, but it is nice. I also went to roger sanchez and it was busy, bu there is always plenty of room in the club, plus I was at the PVD show at the whiskey couldn't be much worse than that. So are tickets on sale now?

Looks like I'll be one of the few checking Oakie out...I'm on holidays and have nothing better to do on a Sunday night....hopefully, I'll be delightfully entertained.

not worth the $25 to see him...

Posted by chig on Jun-27-2004 23:25:

I will be in attendance as well, never seen him before and i am hopin he plays an older set like he used to but i guess he will play off the vibe of the crowd. Should be fun it is sunday not much else goin on so ya lets party!!!!!

WOW!!

Oakenfold kicked it up a serious notch tonight at Tantra! Not since the days of Evolution Fridays back at the Palace in 2001 (with the likes of Judge Jules, and Gatecrasher to name a few) have I seen a crowd totally go off the way the crowd did for Oakie tonight!!

The Dancefloor was a living moving creature alive with synergy, moving as one...it was amazing to see. Oakie knows what to play and when to drop it, his track selection was phenominal, and a mix of both old and new!

For all this I give Oakie all my respect...

Unfortunately poor Oakenfold could really use some mixing work....Paul, couldn't you at least try?? The start of his set was ok but a bit weak...but then he slid into absolute atrocity! I always say, keep er between the ditches...but poor Paul was in the ditch, through the fence and slamin into the trees! Ouch! It really got so bad that he wouldnt even mix at all, just slam the next track in, not even a bar or two.

Still, I have to say that his track selection and the crowd response totally made up for it.

Now the great news!!!

Its official! My very own record label, Black Tiger Recordings, Incolumis release "Northstone" is on the Oakenfold playlist!!! I watched him drop it in and it went over huge!

He had a white label copy, I dont even know where he got it from as I had just taken records to give to him that night...he beat me too it!!

Thank you Paul, pure respect!

EVB

I am glad to hear peeps had fun. The van show was similar minus the waves of dancing people. Jintonik (area 709) and I were dancing in the little space beside the catwalk of a stage with a handful of "geezer ravers" hee hee. Oakie looked disinterested and bored but I didn't care because the music was phenomenal. Just mind blowing

Sigh Armin - Blue Fear

The mixing was horrible. If Oakie can get paid what he does to literraly play not mix records I have a secure future. I am really glad everyone enjoyed the calgary show and I sincerely hope enough people went to make it fun

EVB- Holy crap!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is awesome

Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations Trevor, it is great to hear that your record label is doing well!

I didn't make it to the Oakie show as I was too tired from Canada Day.

Posted by bananapeel on Jun-28-2004 21:00:

It was indeed a crazy night with the whole crowd really into it. The floor was extremely packed for the just under 2 hours that Oakie played. I was quite impressed.

I just missed oakie in Cancun during may, since he was playing 4 days later when I left there. Luckily he shows up in Calgary. So I had to be there at Tantra.

Tunes that I enjoyed that he played.
Elevation - Clear Blue
Paul Oakenfold - Southern Sun (Remix?)
Peter Martin - Perfect Wave (Remix?)

Ahhh!!! can't believe how talented he is until you see him play, was wondering if anyone .. recorded it? pls pls someone upload if you have!

Posted by Jet_Gemini on Jun-28-2004 23:06:

I only heard the first hour or so of his set, before my body gave out. I must have been more tired than I thought from Canada Day, the heat and the lack of space got to me I guess and I fainted/blacked out right on the dancefloor. I strongly dislike Tantra as a venue, I'll have to think twice about returning. I'll support the Johan show, but it'll be a breif stay.

obviously you don't take mixing into consideration when you say talented

Posted by nizmo on Jun-29-2004 00:11:

well he was throwin songs on minus some mixing, nonetheless i'm glad he actually came here.

Posted by Serotonin on Jun-29-2004 00:43:

oakie could try to be a bit nicer to his fans though i saw him brush off peeps in vancouver like they were fleas!

Posted by mmmyummybacardi on Jun-29-2004 02:13:

I have a question, why do people like this guy? he's usually too high to mix half decent, hes a complete asshole to most people, all he does is pick a few decent records, which pretty much anyone that knows anything about trance can do, maybe I'm missing something here

Posted by TrancEuphoria on Jun-29-2004 04:43:

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I fully agree with that. I had herd his mixing was bad but I didn't expect it to be that bad, but he did drop some good tracks and I definately enjoyed the night. I am not too sure if I had to pay to see him it would have been worth it, but I loved his track selection. It doesn't take too much to entertain me.

Posted by nizmo on Jun-29-2004 06:43:

Dunno, maybe u should ask ppl in Europe that, theyre the ones who made him known.
