the issue is whether you want toddlers to be exposed to these things. considering that most toddlers come from normal male/female parents, then why force these young girls and boys to learn about stuff that they're not exposed to back home.

it seems to me that gays and lesbians want to force their ways of life upon everyone.

It's like the issue with the pacifists who don't let their children play with toy guns, plastic soldiers, etc.

But then these children grow up and go out into the real world where all this exists and their parents aren't there to protect them from it.

So what happens? They freak the fuck out because they have never learned about these things, and have never developed mechanisms for dealing with it.

Is that what you want for your kids?

those are toddlers... not kids nor teenagers.

Actually homosexuality is VERY normal, it just isn't the majority... Many many many animal species have homosexuality. In fact, our closest relative in the animal kingdom is MOSTLY bisexual...

There are no coherent logical arguments against homosexuality, gay unions, or portraying homosexuality on TV (except when, as someone already mentioned it's lesbians targetted at children instead of me).. It all boils down to stupidity, intollerance, and ignornace...

No, it seems that gay and lesbians want to be treated equally to the rest of us. It's conservative douche bags who seem to want to force their ways on the rest of us...

of course i get your point.

but when I read this story, its like a nightmare straigt from Brave New World where toddlers are brainwashed.

and mps242, i'm actually a lefty, but this story proves my point. Which is the lengths that gay and lesbians are willing to go to force their ways of life upon everyone else is just ridiculous...

Nobody's forcing anything on anybody. If you think that a television show is teaching your children things that overshadow the homophobic views that you've been pawning off onto them, then you shouldn't be a parent. There was a big uproar about a character on Sesame Street that had AIDS. Sesame Street wasn't teaching your children that having AIDS is great and they should go get it as soon as possible. They're just trying to educate kids on things that are happening in real life. Either they can begin to learn about it now and possibly be more accepting that these things are happening, or you can turn off the channel teach them all the gay-bashing ignorance you want to.

isn't that show on public state television?? Why would the majority of tax payers pay for that kind of crap.

I don't mind removing PRIDE TV from my television, but when it comes to state television citizens expect people with common sense to run decent shows on the airwaves.

Ummm, if 6% of the population (and I've seen claims that it's actually as high as 10%) then shouldn't a state run television station have around 6% of its characters be gay? I mean, if it is a station for all the people, and not just white heterosexual people then I'd think that inclusiveness of all portions of the demographic would need to be portrayed...

Why should 6% of the population be excluded from a service that they help pay for?

Also, as far as the article goes, it doesn't mention that gay activists are behind the characters, that's you inserting your own bias into the story.

Yes, it was aired on one of the two public broadcasters down here. My position hasn't changed - if you don't want kids to be exposed to normal life, then fine - don't let them watch TV. If they see it, then it's your own fault, as you're the one who's letting them watch television in the first place.

As for your 'that kind of crap' comment, let's hear it - why is this 'a load of crap'? What isn't 'decent' about it?

By that token we should immediately release all murderers, rapists, and cannibals from prisons everywhere. In fact they should be portrayed often on TV, because that is how Nature wants us to be...apparently.

Exposing people to stuff they are not exposed to at home is *essential* to creating a population of independently thinking individuals. If you are never subjected to the idea of mum and dad being wrong during the shaping of your personality, then you will end up as a fundamentalist with little worth to the ethical and scientific advancement of the human species IMO.

arctic: I love your posts! When reading through the thread, I came to think of a lot of comments to other people's posts, only to find the comments stated clearly in one of your posts - every time. Btw. I thought the grass analogy was hillarious.
