you guys need to get a clue.. its not even close and if it was i would admit it. the only person in dutch trancedom that even steps to tiesto is ferry, and he still doesnt step all that close.. funny thing is most of us in this forum have all seen both live, but some swear that armin is better(his mixing is better, im being objective about that) but you guys must have been seeing something different then i was seeing, because tiesto sets honestly, creatively, artistically, and structure wise are far superior to armins. i could literally go on and on, and i think if tiesto wasnt number one, people wouldnt say all the frivlolous bs that they do. you guys are entitled to your opinion tho, however flawed it may be. see you june 18th, hopefully with open ears, clean the shit out and you'll see why he's the most gifted dj trance has ever seen. its all about the MAJIK!!

um, yeah, what he said

Mixing is so overrated anyways, who cares, if he really wanted i'm sure he could just wait till the very end of each song and do a great mix, wow. Just throw down the tracks and get on with it!! I hear him mix out early alot and overlap parts that dont sound so great together, who cares...blah blah...

again, mixing is overrated, tiesto is the greatest.

heheh, this topic is getting played.

you know my stance - PVD is god, no one can step.
but yea, i talk a lot of sh--, but if i really didn't like tiesto then i wouldn't be there with you guys on the 18th, he's still somewhere in my top 10.

No, I'm just saying mixing is overrated and not too difficult.

Yeah I would have those tunes if everyone in the world was sending me the latest stuff, not too difficult then huh.

Alright, not to come across wrong, I appreciate the mixing of PVD, sasha, but i just dont think they are that much better than tiesto, it just seems like he doesnt put the effort into it that they do.

Have you downloaded Tiesto's sets lately? I mean the current ones. They sound like someone is taking a piss on a vynil and mixing it all together. Armin's later sets are pure emotional bliss. Way better than Tiesto's.

here is someone who obviously didnt go to majik muzik nite. armin radio show impresses me his livesets are nothing to be impressed about, unless you like sets that are composed of nothing but anthem after anthem, honestly sets like that get old after awhile. thats why i like tiesto he takes you on a journey, by throwing in filler tracks in between the bigger tracks(like anthems). and please, get off this bangwagon "tiesto is a bad mixer" bullshit, and come up with some original critisism. its simply not true( listen to majik 6 if you want to hear great mixing, he's done it before, buts its more difficult now that trance has changed so much). overall his mixing is clean in his sets. and ive explained this before in previous posts, tiesto style is very diverse he borrows from alot of different genres, hence making the mixing more of a CHALLENGE. unlike pvd who remakes, remixes whatever the term maybe, every tune he plays, making the mixing almost flawless and easy to execute, and that he uses a laptop almost exclusively. hmmm... youve probably noticed that the bassline is the same thru almost his whole set. im not saying that is bad, im just saying it makes the mixing much easier, tiesto could do the samething if he wanted to, but he doesnt want to bore the crowd thru four hours of the same tired bassline. your entitled to your opinion and i'll listen to the arguements that pvd is a better dj than tiesto, but armin?! NIGGA PLEASE! just plain silly. and if you judge how good a dj is simply by mixing your missing the bigger picture. i really believe that tiesto is capable of mixing better than all of them. in the past he was known for his mixing, i just think it is tougher now that his style is so diverse and dynamic.

Mattivi, just what I wanted to say, you explained it well.

Yeah, I have heard some of his recent livesets and there are some mixes where the songs dont go well and he just fades them in/out.

But I have also heard some really great in key perfect mixing from him also.

Thats all I have to say about mixing. I like all the DJs anyways

jeff, maybe you should just post that movie i sent you from ultra, even though it's not edited perfectly (but i guess that is right in line with how tiesto mixes, from what i hear).

Well, this is a problem I see with all Tiesto fanatics. They simply refuse to admit his flaws. They think that Tiesto is perfect in all ways. I admit PvD's flaws, such as usage of Final Scratch a.k.a. mixing mp3's and the whole idea behind baseline. Tiesto is far from perfect. I respect the man, but I don't appreciate the aggressive fanbase who will bash anyone, who likes someone else more than Tiesto.

I dunno about live performance, but judging from later sets (I was not talking about magik series, there was a specific reason why I inserted later or current), Armin sets are simply way better than Tiesto's sets.

dang it, unfortunately it's on my home computer, and i can't get to it at the moment. jeff is the only one with another copy....

Not to get on you too bad but...

No way PvD has ever played an MP3 file live.

It is doctored I have to say, but funny I guess.

Posted by arturob on Jun-07-2004 15:45:

"I'm a sound freak," he admits - the quality wasn't high enough for him. So Van Dyk stores his tunes as uncompressed AIFF files instead, and for added refinement, he gives every track an extra smoothing for the dance floor. "Everything I play goes through the mastering setup of my studio," he explains, "so everything you hear sounds even better than the original record."

Posted by scamsel on Jun-07-2004 15:58:

jeff, can you put the file on your server, i can download and give it to scott to post.
