if it wasn't for my mom blaring 80's music and 80's dance music when i was a small child i don't think i'd have the love for electronic music that i do today

Posted by XeQtOr on Jun-17-2004 07:27:

I have nothing against some 1986 Metallica or other metal/rock bands.. I u mean the typical chart topper 1980s shit then i'm in with you..

I like 80s too, have thousands of music from that decade. Probably because I started listening to music really in the 80s. Hell I liked the 80s better than the 90s and 00's.

Be Cool! my useless smiley

I love the 80s. They are coming back in a big way too, but with a more 21st century style. All the hot pinks, and gloves and leg warmers w/ mini skirts are everywhere in south beach. I like 80s music too...reminds me of growing up wishing I was like my sister and her friends (her era).

some 80's/early 90's artists

Johnny O
Stevie B
Debbie Gibson
Metallica
Guns N Roses
White Snake
Motley Crue
ACDC
Janet & Michael Jackson (before they turned into freaks)

I think it's much easier for people who grew up in Jr. High and High School to be a little more fond of the 80's. Though there was a lot of music I absolutely despised, there was a great deal of music and artists already mentioned that I still love listening to. Just yesterday I heard Simple Minds "Don't you forget about me", and Tears for Fears, "Everybody wants to rule the world" - and that instantly threw me into nostalgia.

Besides, we owe a great deal of our current dance music to the 80's. Pet Shop Boys, New Order, Dee Lite, Happy Mondays (Oakenfold anyone?), Dead or Alive, oh hell even Madonna, Depeche Mode, Erasure, Maars, Nitzer Ebb, on and on and on......

Posted by Slylee on Jun-17-2004 18:18:

oooh! you just reminded me! i was at crobar recently and the resident DJ threw down a remixed version of Tears for Fears "Shout"

anyone know who remixed it??? could it have been Lexicon Avenue?? it sounded like it could be.

Here are some of the artists I remember that I got the biggest kicks out of when I was in the 80s. Some only had a couple good songs but still good stuff.

A-Ha, Eurthymics, Rockwell, Romantics, FYC, Corey Hart, OMD, Europe, Hall & Oates, King, Naked Eyes, Pet Shop Boys, Roxette, Shannon, The Police, Robert Palmer, Rick Springfield, Dead or Alive, Calloway, Talking Heads, Huey Lewis and the News, Tears for Fears, After the Fire, Peter Gabriel, Human League, Cars, INXS, Depeche Mode, The FIXX, JCM, Stray Cats, Devo, Billy Idol, Ready for the World, Real Life, Dino, Whispers, Dire Straits, Rick James, Yazoo, Men WIthout Hats, Billy Ocean, Eddie Money, Men at Work, Carl Douglas, Soft Cell, John Parr, Ramones, Simle Minds, Styx, Rod Stewart, The Buggles, The Outfield, Psychedelic Furs, Romantics, Tommy Tutone, Toto, Flock of Seagulls, New Order, Benny Mardones, Metallica, Def Leppard, GNR, Love & Rockets, Scorpions, Alice Cooper, Genesis, Mr. Mister

and lots more

Some of my favorite 80s mixes are of Depeche Mode. Crazy stuff.

80s music is good. I have actually been digging the 80s internet radio the past few days here at work.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned The Smiths, Morrisey has a great voice that absolutely blew me away the first time I heard him, and Marr was perhaps one of the most unique guitarist of the 80's.

Posted by blazed it on Jun-17-2004 22:13:

the smith's and morrisey are awesome... but don't listen to them if you are depressed you'll want to kill yourself.

I liked the disco to a degree, but it was fading then. This was the birth of trance though, which is nothing more than modernized disco - Club Music if you will. Heavy Metal was having a good play back then with Metallica and the like which I was totally into, so you have to be specific about what you do not like about the 80's music instead of simply dising an entire decade. Were you even born then?

hahah same here bro. I love Flash FM...."i walk along the avenue, never thought i'd meet a girl like you...".... fucking crazy!! I downloaded some of the vice city radio stations and have been generally getting 80's music like a whore lately. Its pure Pop, but unlike the shit floating around today.
