well you guys, i'm willing to bet that we can get more than one sponsor... which is good for a number of reasons

1.) sponsors won't have to dish as much out
2.) easier to find more sponsors

i'm all about counting today

I think the ideas you guys posted for sponsorship are great. i agree that several sponsors would be better. I am willing to coordinate this project to get the float but I will need help with getting the sponsorship since I dont spin and I am not into this industry all that much, so I dont know these sound companies and so on.

I am going to start working on a budget for what we need to pull this off. I should be able to come up with a grant/sponsorship proposal that we can present to these companies. If you have an idea of a company you want to get to sponsor us, let me know and I will give you any sort of proposal I have put together. I think we should ask for amounts between $1000 and $5000. I havent gotten any quotes yet but I am estimating that this will cost us $10,000-$15,000 (if we have to pay to rent all the sound equipment.) If anyone has done this kind of event before and has a better estimate, let me know. also, we should keep in mind that if we want to try and book some bigger name djs who have recognized TA in the past, we'll have to be able to pay them as well...

I requested information from loveparade yesterday but i havent recieved any email from them yet. I will follow up with them if i havent heard anything by monday.

Good idea.

Damn, I wish I still knew my old connection at Monster Cable. She probably gave me $15,000 in cables (for work) and never broke a sweat. It was like nothing to them.

thats because the markup on those things is probably 10x more than the markup on alcohol in a bar

anyway, i think this is a great idea. i'm down to help however i can, altho i'm down in LA.
i'd love to spin on the float.

i know some serious DJ's that would be willing to play for free as long as we can pay for their plane ticket out here... we'll keep that on the hush hush for now though. lets continue to come up w/ an overall price, find some sponsorhips and then we will talk about talent.

Hello,

I love this Idea. I am a audio engineer that deals with live sound and recording. Right now i live in florida, but i am from seattle and have many connections on the west coast for sound systems. I will get on this right away to see if i can help out. Im goin to this event no matter what. I am also a tech trance dj, so if djs needed, i can rock the freakin floAt!

I would also like to participate in any way possible. I live near Sacramento. Let me know if I can do anything. I am also a DJ. I can send demos to anybody who wants one to see if my skills are up to par.

This is the first I've heard of this...

I'll look into this thing and see if it is feasible... so.. don't all get too excited about this.. in due time.

Also i'm confused.. the poll is to 'sponsor' a float... not to have your own float where you get sponsors... two completely different things

i think john started the poll with the idea that we have a float with TAs name on it. but i think it is up to us to find the money... i am still waiting for more information from the loveparade people. i will followup with them today.

FYI

I got a response from my application request:
quote:
Dear Melissa,

Thank you for your interest in participating in Loveparade San Francisco
We are about a month away from releasing the float application and related
policies. I shall make sure that you are sent a notice when the
application is ready.

Love Rules!

I actually mis-stated what the purpose of this thread was. I want TranceAddict to have its own float in the Parade. Your site has changed the edm scene totally. Dj's, Producers, Fans, and Promoters (like myself) have come found a place to exchange information (Dj tips, Party info, Track listings, & News). Over the past four years the site has grown to have the largest trance message board ever I believe. If this can be funded though donations / grants it could really help you make an ever greater mark in this industry.

I have just heard back from management from

Nu-NRG

To be blunt. They are VERY interested in coming out to play on a TA float. They have sent me all the pertinent information(sound setup required, booking forms, etc.) and would like to know if the TA float is happening for sure. I know there are many well-known acts interested in performing, but I think many of you will agree that Nu-NRG is a very special act and have performed last year at Berlin LP.

If anyone wants more information I have from management, please PM me.

The question is when are LP applications going to come out, and has anyone made any headway to attain corporate sponsorship? If the TA float is really going to happen, then we are going to have to meet soon as a group on a regular basis to start planning. Another idea to raise capital would be to throw some nightclub events with all procedes going to pay for the float.

Also we need to get this thread more attention from the main discussion boards page.

To say that there aren't that many people interested in SFLP, would be an understatement.

i am down to support this. i dont think i am the right person to get corporate sponsorship, since i have no connection to the industry but i can help manage to set up the event. i am still waiting on the applications to come out. I will followup with the guy to find out what the process is going to be so that we can give NuNRG a proper answer. hopefully their intrest in playing on our float will give our application additional weight. we might want to start writing grant proposals to get some money... if anyone wants to get together to talk about this, i am down. at night or a weekend works for me. obviously in the SF area. (i am in the east bay so i am down with berkeley too) if there is a lot of other TA interest, we can try and set up a conference call number.

Posted by PhaseFour on Jul-08-2004 01:45:

hey butterfly, it was nice to meet u at SF! i had a blast at virgin...its too damn bad im not 21. and lacking a fake ID

well, nu-nrg is awesome but i think itll be a better idea to get a massive list of DJs who are willing to spin on the float, and put that as addendum on our app. talk about something that can carry weight.

oh, and i dont mind helping w/ anything either, except its gonna be really tough for me to physically meet up anywhere that isnt in sacto or davis. but we'll see.

ttyal later

that is good news indeed, did they give you a quote or anything on how much they would charge? If you could mention that a lot of us might have to take money out of our own pocket, that might help... tell them we don't mind flying them out here, but extra is allowing less talent to happen. I'm in the process of writing letters as we speak to some corporations around here.

Posted by DaveT on Jul-08-2004 10:18:

I need to figure out if my work is going to be sponsoring any type of float. We own mp3.com and my department actually runs it, so we might have plans on sponsoring something. If they are and it's not for TA, then I am technically not allowed to really be involved although I'm not sure if it'll stop me.

If they currently have no plans, maybe I can talk them into sponsoring the TA float...teehee. Although chances are they would say no as it's a conflict of interest business wise, but I can try. (It's basically giving an employee money...much like how the government gets in a lot of trouble by the public for contracting corps where people in the government tend to be on the board of directors).

yeah but dont they do that anyway?

phasefour, it was nice to meet you too! if there is enough interest from outside the bay area then i will pay for a conf call number so you can still help with this stuff. otherwise we'll just put you on speakerphone.

i was thinking maybe next tuesday? (i am not going to be around until august affter that) i'll volunteer my place as a meeting spot unless anyone else has something better - i live kind of out there (in crockett)

I wrote back to management and asked what fees would be involved, if any, beyond airfare, accomadation, equipment, providing an interpreter, etc. (they prefer an italian translator to travel with them - i only understand french and spanish, darn!). It is very complex, since we need to provide equipment for a live PA. I explained that this is a grass-roots effort, and we are seeking sponsorship, and there is no revenue from ticket sales. Also keep in mind, they would most likely do a 1-hour slot, so other top-line DJs are inherently necessary.

I am going to touch base with a friend at Pioneer to see what I can drum up. He mentioned it might be difficult given the nature of the event, but sometimes they sponsor events.

Also, what do you think about involving a promoter like Thump? I can get in touch with them, and ask if they'd be interested in helping, becasue they are very experienced in bringing in live acts. (i.e. we can all set up turtables, a mixer, and some speakers, but in this case we are going to need a good sound engineer...anyone know of one?)

i dont know who thump is.... but sure. i am not the myusic person anyway. we should also get in contact with that girl from the toronto forums who knows all those djs... cant remember her name right now... and lunasea, and and redeye from ny cause he talks to some promoters too... if i recall certain TAs have a good rapore with Johan Geilen and Marco V and they have been very TA supportive in the past....

as for the translator... any SFTAs speak italian and want to hang out with NuNRG?

I am tempted to take a quick course in Italiano! Actully when I hung out with them briefly in Ibiza, they seemed to understand me (or maybe they were pretending LOL)

Anyways, one question I have is...can we use Tranceaddict's name for this? Who do we need to get permission from? I think this needs to be directed to whomever that is.

Thump (actually Thump-Radio.com) is a promoter in the SF bay area who throw numerous trance parties, and have brought over several international acts (for example, Astral Projection, coming end of July). I only mention this because, they
have a lot of experience in putting on these kind of things, whether from clubs to boat parties. For all I know, they could be planning their own float, but it might help to partner with a local promoter.
Just an idea.

we need buy in from swamper. he already saw this thread and said he would look into. so he needs to be aware of all the work we do. since this is a big effort to pull off, of course it is going to take teamwork for us SFTAs and swamper and the other well connected TAs. so i guess once we have some more solid information, especially on the policies from LPSF, we need to make sure we have the go ahead. i wrote the chairman for lpsf yesterday. if i dont hear in a few days i will call him.
