| Originally posted in my PM box I just wanted to ask you a question about working out abs primarly, since you seem to know a pretty good amount of info. from what I have read. Ok, um, what do you suggest doing for excersize routines? Every night, 5 sets of 100 crunches or so? I want to try and tone my stomach up even more and work out the sides also to get that "v" affect lol. I would appreciate your advice on this! Thanks for taking your time out for helping me. By the way, I do eat a lot of crap food too (I wont lie) but I do drink plenty of water, thats all I drink really. Just thought I would say that incase you asked about my eating habits (and I have a super fast metabolism) |

| Originally posted by DigitalMP everyone has their purpose ![]() here is a PM that was sent to me today...I thought I would answer here to share with others: Hey buddy...no sweat, I'm glad to help. Part of the reason it's so hard for men to develop abs, is that is where our main collection of Alpha-B receptors lies (for women, it's the ass and thighs). Alpha-B receptors attract and harbor liposomes. a.k.a fat cells. Now it makes sense for men to have 'beer guts', or women to say, "everything I eat goes to my ass and thighs". Regardless, one CANNOT spot reduce fat. Crunches will not tone your abs. Yes, they will develop the muscles, but you must burn the layers of fat in order to show definition. This leads me to my favorite motto - "Abs are made in the kitchen, not in the gym." For those who are thinking, "Wait Digital, muscle burns fat, so you're wrong." Yes, you're correct, but it's so inadequate that it will rarely amount to anything you'll ever see. If you want my instructions on how to define your abs, I'll tell you that if you eat like shit, as I state in my document (linked above) - cut out the shitty condiments, no more fried food, kill the sweets, and drink water instead of soda and juice. Any saturated fats, trans fats, hydrogenated oils, and excess sugars you consume are simply obstacles in your path. You get on the treadmill, run a few miles, ride the bike, in order to burn fat (in the area your body chooses), eventually defining your abs. Any shit that you eat has to get worked off before your body fat starts to burn. It is fairly safe to believe that, since most people eat like shit, the cardio in your exercise barely works off the demons in your diet I listed above. Abs are not easy to develop. They demand a very religious diet. I, myself, eat not for pleasure, but to achieve goals. I would much rather have my body look the way it does than to eat piza or macaroni and cheese. Also note that it is much easier to stay at the level you're at than to get to where you're at. For instance, I have a six pack, and very good muscle definition. I also have a fast metabolism. I can cheat every few days, and my cardio will burn it off. Lastly, developing your lower abs demands very little OR NO CHEATING. See the document I linked above for nutrition info, because that is the key to fat burning - eating clean and cardio. |

@ DigitalMP:
sorry...a little off topic, but i'm still struggling with the carb sources for my diet. i've started eating pre-cooked rice straight out of the box. i know it tastes like shit, but rice is such a great carb source and its so much quicker to eat it raw. anyway, do you see any immediate problems with that? i must admit that i really just kinda pulled the idea out of my ass...what do you think??

I believe you, really. It's all about living a healthy lifestyle. Looking good and feeling good is a way of life. And you'll never be so motivated to stay fit and trim as one who busts their ass to attain that result. Not someone who pops pills to do so, developing a heart murmur in the process. You can take fat burners, but they may not work, and they won't keep the weight off. Your lazy ass is going to run right back to KFC like you always do, because you never disciplined yourself to do anything other than that. You can also juice up to build muscle mass, but you're not going to keep the weight on, and you'll never be satisifed with the way you look, as long as it's less that you looked at the peak of your roid cycle. Life is all about choices. Eat healthy, don't take fat burners, and don't juice. Study hard, and don't cheat on your exams. |

| Originally posted by DigitalMP White rice is a high-GI carb...you're best off with brown rice. See the section in my document about the glycemic index. In the morning, the first thing I do is scoop a cup of rolled oats, add some water, and mic it for a minute, and add some Stevia for sweetener, along with a banana. 54g of the best carbs you'll ever eat. Also, I cook 3 uncooked cups of brown rice (with 6.5 cups of water for optimum rigidity) and 1.5 tbsp of chicken boullion, at the start of each week. I have about two good servings each day (totaling about 125g of the 2nd best carbs you'll ever eat). FYI - more water and your brown rice is too soft, and it tastes LIKE SHIT...not like white rice, where you can get away with that. That carb content is perfect for most people, though I pull in more than twice that, mostly because I'm a big guy and my body demands it, or my weight drops. |

| Originally posted by DigitalMP Just make sure to limit your high-GI carbs to before and after exercise time, so they are utilized most efficiently. Also, I like whole grain pasta as another carb source, though it's not as low on the GI as those other two carbs. 1/2 box of penne or spirals (cooked), 1 can of white albacore tuna (drained and shredded), microwaved for about 40 seconds. Add a bit of hot sauce (not too much), and some fat-free caesar dressing, and you have a BOMB ASS healthy pasta salad! |

Hey Digital... just wondering if you've found an effective way of preserving the great taste of food - not-heated by microwave. I've never been a big fan of the microwave. Thanks. |

| Originally posted by DigitalMP well, I don't cook with the microwave, i reheat it. so build a fire, and set your plate on it |

I actually did read most of your posts and that really useful .doc file (which I have saved on my HD) but the "pre-cook" procedue totally slipped my mind (the fact that you were using it, that is). Hmm. I do believe it's time for me to start working out. My BMI is currently 12 (I'm 5'9"). Is this a good number to stay around with my height, if I plan to work out, that is. |
Hey everyone, this thread is kinda old- but I need help. I worked out my calves Friday night-- 5 reps of 25. This was also my first every doing it. But, after the session, I was pretty Okay, all the way up to Sunday. They started to really hurt and now, it's Monday morning- and these SOB still hurt like a bitch! Painkillers don't get rid of the pain either. Any suggestions on how to prevent this from happening again?
time is the healer. wait until tehy recover, then train them again. eventually you will no longer feel the pain!
they are killing you because you just said it was your first time. i always try to make my calves soar like that...it feels good. so just be happy that you actually worked the muscle. and maybe you have a crappy diet too...
remember that you are costantly using your legs even after the workout to, it not like shoulders which wont be used half as much
