Cars are such a waste of money; so by all means try to save yourself from having to spend more then necessary.

I get a new ( used ) car every 6 months usually from car auctions and try to sell them for profit; Don't own a vehicule too long or the maintenance racks up; If you can do it yourself then great ( I can ... I just don't have access to proper tools )

Old cars are easier to fix up no doubt ( well getting the parts for older cars is debatable ... but as far as installing stuff in older ones it tends to be much easier ) but does it outweigh the cost/headache of getting a more recent one ?

I just had my car broken into yesterday ... new window will cost 300+ CAD apparently ; and they ripped out the center dashboard, thing is it busted parts of the main dashboard which in theory will cost around 1K ( a friend of mine with the same model had his car broken into before ).... I'm going to have to jerry rig it and just glue a replacement heater control, cd player panel myself.. GHETTO!

do not buy the cheap shitty car and fix it up, my step brother did that and he put in soo much fucking money because he fixed it up like 4 times and had to have it in the shop a fuck load of times so he ended up paying more than he would have paid if he bought the more expensive car, the piece of shit rusted up on him sooo many times and he my step father got a second car, and the same thing happened, my advice-buy the decently priced car and be happy

I thought you wanted to learn car stuff to save money...

I have seen to many friends buy an old piece of crap american car that they were going to "fix up" only to have to buy a replacement part once a week for it. If I were you I would get a used reliable Japanese sports car,.. I bought mine for 5.5k usd and have only had minor repairs, which I do myself.

i say buy a new car. building cars are only good if you have one that is reliable already and have the time to spend on the second car.

No truer words have ever been spoken. If your idea of fun is: staying up late night, covered in grease, underneath a car, cursing because you can't find where you drop that nut, after the wrench slipped, busting you knuck on the manifold....then get a fixer upper. Otherwise buy a new car, tint ur windows, and soup up the stereo. You'll be able to find other man activites like drinking beer, hitting on chix, etc...
