-- AMD or P4

I would go with P4 as I have a couple friends who have gone through hell with there AMD's as well as the fact that after about a year there processors would just start running super hot and shut down there computer unless they had the case open and a huge fan on blowing cool air into the computer case.

Maybe a bad motherboard or a bad cooling.
If you chose motherboards manufacturer like ASRock, Elitegroup or other bad funcking shit of motherboard at 50$/p, I understand.
I got an AMD 2800+ overclocked @ 2300mhz and its temp is 40-45 in full load. It's not Hell anymore !!!!! So I got a Cooler Master Aero 7+ not a idiot CPU fan packed with cpu box or any other cpu fan at 15$...
Is their inside case well cooled ? I don't understand why some pple goes through hell with AMD.
American AMD CPU = European AMD CPU ?????
That's the question
So all is in experiences that we have made, for me AMD is the best, for other P4 is the best...

Actually not it isn't. Why on earth would they make shitty versions of their cpu's for another region? How can you remotely see logic in that?
AMD builds their chips all across the world, including Dresden in Germany, and other places including Japan, and the US. The chips from Dresden aren't just shipped to europe, from what I know from the past they built different versions of the chips at different plants, they have equal distribution of types across the world (in relative terms).
If you have problems with with AMD chips one of two things could have happened:
The most likely thing is that either you or whoever built your computer, doesn't have enough expirience building or working with computers to sufficiently cool it (in terms of selecting suitable fans, AND insuring that there is a good airflow, making sure the cables are tied away, and that certain fans are pointed in an optimal dirrection to aid in flow), or assemble it correctly in the first place.
The second thing that could have happened, is that you got a DOA chip, and it should have been replaced right away. This is extremely EXTREMELY rare, and occurs with Intel in a similar frequence AFAIK. I can't say that I've ever had a dead AMD chip, nor have I heard of anyone getting one recently.
Having a cpu that is running warm is not a problem. As long as it runs within the processors range you are gold. If you are running hot that it overheats, then maybe you didn't install your heatsink correctly, or there is another cooling issue going wrong.
AMD DOES NOT make bad chips. If you say that, you are full of fud. Period. There are millions and millions of AMD chips in normal everyday use, and there have not been any mass failures.
If you go through hell with AMD, more than likely it is your own damn fault.

Fine I was wrong.. I mean 27.35MHZ off..
Either way, I've seen them even higher.

Well I can't say that I live Amd, because I own both Intel and Amd processors, but yeah I like them.
If you care, both my laptop (Pentium M/ Centrino 1.4), and my server/test.bitch box (dual celeron 466) are Intel based.
The Pentium M is quite an interesting processor. It has more performance per clock similarly to AMD's chips. It is actually based on the older p6 core, which the p3,p2.. etc were based on . In the grand scheme of things Intel chose to develop the P4, with the bloated clockspeeds that I noted in an earlier post in this thread, claiming the p6 was no longer useful as it was topping out. Intel decided not to follow with AMD's 'model number" scheme though.

Notice how the 1st reference cpu (the P4 3.2) Ghz isn't that far behind it in that benchmark? You were also the one that initially stated that it wasn't the overall clockspeed of a cpu that determined its performace, so why compare a 3.0ghz AMD with a 3.0ghzP4, when if you overclock a 3.0ghz P4 to 4.2Ghz+, it would whip the ass of the 3.0ghzAMD?
And off the top of my head I think AMD proccessors execute more instructions per cycle then p4s, but p4s execute cycles much much faster then the AMD's, however, there cycles don't execute as many instructions.
AMD: low clock cycle speed/many instructions per cycle.
P4 : high clock cycle speed/less instruction per cycle.
In the end, they're just about equal in performance tho.

That it would. BUT remember, we are comparing old generation AMD technolgy versus new generation Intel technology. I'm not up on the Athlon 64/Opteron stuff, so I can't comment on how those relate to Intel's latest.

If my computer architecture class taught me anything, it is that the only way to compare to computers is to time them doing the thing you are going to use them for.
If chip A scores higher than chip B on some benchmark it does not mean anything. For example, all that matters is that (for a Logic user) Logic responds faster one a certain chip.
Basically my point is that you can argue all you want about clockspeed, cache size, bus speeds, instruction pipelines, etc. but in the end all that matters is that you can accompish what you set out to do.
Well I didn't really add anything with that post so I will just say that both AMD and Intel make solid x86 chips. I usually end up choosing by price anyway (read: AMD)

ok i cant produce like that anymore my pc 866 pent3 sux, shinsharaa is my best work and i'd like to exceed that level, yet i can't exceed red cpu
am buying a new desktop with everything build in it, been years since i did computer shopping
currently i am seeing this on the internet, some guy selling this in my town
Processor: AMD Athlon Xp 2700+
Geheugen: 256DDR
Hardeschijf: 120GB
DVD - Speler
DVD - RW +/- 4x speed
Videokaart: 128DDR/MB Ati Radeon 9200 (500mhz)+ TV OUT
Modem: Aztech 56k V92
Netwerk: Via VT 6102
Floppy
for 450 euro, how good is this for producing? not sure about the soundcard, but i did great with soundblaster live.
and the price?
oh ya anyone have any info or experience on that video card?
