So true.....and it also depends on the booth.......u can can actully turn down the volume on just the monitor, therefore you can turn down the volume on the headphones to match....I usually set everything up to a comfortable level for my self after about the second song...but then again...it still depends on how the booth is set up.......so learning how to mix every single way u can think of would be the best....like what Freak said....

It seems easier to recognize the beats of two separate tracks if mixing using one ear. When you mix the cues, tracks seem more intermingled and beats are all over.

Edit: If your mixer supports mono split, then you can still mix with one ear but with headphones on. My neck hurts if I mix for more than two hours. Haven't used mono split that much. Trying to do it the original one-ear way.

yeah i agree with most people here, its all personal preferance but you should be prepaired to use one or the other in any given situation...
