Do something original mr. oliver!!! Go digging for new vinyls rather than taking a shopping list to the record store!!! And lose that damn english accent! It doesn't automatically give you status as a DJ! |

Ok, ok, ok. I se we have some oliver worshippers here.
You can't exactly claim that I'm insulting 99% of the DJs out there. The fact of the matter is, he's playing the stuff that's already been established as hits by playing all these tracks that have gotten air-time on mas media broadcasts, most often radio shows in europe. And you can't exactly tell me that just because he doesn't have the same access to promos and white labels as say a sasha or an oakenfold he can't go around digging and finding the more abstract, experimental, or lessor known music out there. There sooooo much house, progressive and trance out there, and a lot of it's good, you just have to take the time to go out and listen to it. Having a huge collection of vinyls does not mean you have good track selection. So what if he has 20,000 + vinyls? If he's playing the same ones everyone else is, he's still not doing his job with bringing the newer music to the masses. His track selection always makes me feel like he's just playing a mash of songs which have already been proven to be hits. To me, a DJ playing underground music like mark oliver does should be trying to further the scene by bringing in and playing rarely heard tracks to the masses, helping with the exposure of the experimental or newer artists to the forefront of the scene creating a deeper and more broad underground community.
This is just how I feel when I hear mark oliver play, he's just merely an extension of a european dance radio show. I don't get this feel when I listen to a set by Addy or Sean Miller.
But you guys are entitled to your opinion, as I am mine, so you can keep going to the guv, keep lovin mark oliver, but I'll stick to running around various places and keep looking for the next big thing. Maybe you'll get out there and hear the newer music eventually, but by the time you do, it won't be new anymore.
Mark Oliver is indeed a solid DJ.

Dude sly_guy, i respect ur opinon but i have to vehimantly disagree with u. I think Mark Oliver is a very good DJ in the fact that he feeds of the crowd so well and he knows how to spin, and spin very well at that. I dotn think guv would would keep him as resident dj for so long if he wasnt great, and he is english
I met the dude, and he is fukin cool as hell, very down to earth. I iwll tell u the story, he played in buff the past week, and i went to go shake his hand after the killer set he played, and he looked at me and said "Hey i see u at the guv all the time", and he personally shook my hand and chilled with me just cause we support him and asked us should he change his style, or do something different. We were all like u are the man, and dont get cocky, and just be who u r, u are cool cause u can feed off the vibe of the crowd so well.

Mark is a well rounded DJ and has amazing tallent. He always has the crowd pumping and wanting more. Mark can read a crowd and know exscatly what they want to hear. Thats what makes a good DJ great. Knowing what the crowd wants to hear and then playing it is the best. Mark rocks the Guv EVERY saturday with very little complaints if any. You may be entitled to your opinon, but maybe you should 'think again'
i agree to a certain extent mark does play some reptivnes of tracks, but who cares honeslty as long it sounds good, isnt that the point? to have a good time and good music?
geez stop you whining bitching and complaining, mark is a excellent friendly guy.
He knows me , by several times me and others have met him, we dont have enough local djs to justify that, just because you hear the tracks overplayed on european air, doesnt mean that youll hear it the same time here, but you may have caught him at a bad time, each to his own. i am not here to argue, but this the only good dj including de-koze we have in toronto.
Aight well I'm done about mark oliver, but does anyone know the set times for this event yet? I'm trying to mission back from sauble beach for scumfrog's set and I'd like to have a general time I should be shooting for.
this has nothign to do with anything...
but i would love to see Mark & Deko-ze rip shit up back to back in a nice intimate environment with their hardcore fans (you guys know who you are) dancing all night/day long
...now that would be something
