-- Review: Trance Night Pt. I w/Edgar V. & John '00' Flemming @ Boa-Redux!!!!!

Damn, looks like I missed another great party...hate it when that happens. I meant to show up, but got the news that my roomates mother passed away last night, and decided against it.
I'm glad the rest of you had an enjoyable evening though. Guess my Boa cherry will have to remain intact for a while longer...
I must admit, hearing trance being pumped out of Boa's awesome sound system took some getting used to but it sounded pretty damn good though.
Walter Rosati did a good job of warming up the crowd for Edgar V's set. Edgar's set was a bit too trancy at first for my liking but then he started pounding out some harder tunes and that got my ass movin.
J00F came on around 5 and started on his psy trance set. It was different to when I heard him at Viva but good nonetheless. I was so exhausted from one of the busiest weekends of my life but the music was so good that I just couldn't stop dancing. Left around 7 only because I had some work to finish up but I would love to have stayed until the end. What time did the party end anyway?
It was great seeing so many TAs out last night. We definitely took over that dance floor with our very own FloorWhore leading the charge.
Big up to TR for making this happen.
The party ended at around 8am.

Ok. I'm in better condition to write a review now...
the party was AMAZING! Thanx to Nalin for saving my butt and helping me go in the first place!
We got there relatively early (1am?) and I was impressed with Walter's set, even though it was a lil all over the place and the mixing wasnt the greatest for the meshing of some tracks, his track selection DID impress me for the most part!
Edgar V was GREAT! I didnt know what to expect from this guy, but he mixed it up fairly well with melodic and progressive and hard trance... lots of great tunes were played! (I think I will forever associate 'White Room - The White Room' with this party)
J00F...omg, just simply incredible...he took us on a dark journey of a set with scattered melodies and psy-goodness! Not to mention that he's like one of the most DOWN TO EARTH djs I'v ever met...like WHAT a nice guy!
But what helped make this party what it was (aside from the great music) was my friends, and all the TA's (new and old)... wow... and Cuzo (hope you had a good bday) I have to mention, was simply unstoppable! The man would NOT let me stop dancing for one sec!
Definite positive vibe from all TA's. Thanx everyone
Ohhhhhh damn. can't forget to mention that I think Boa is the now my new favourite venue in toronto. If there are NOT more trance events there, GEORGE WILL BE VERY ANGRY!
I think this event was like one of the best events I've attended this year! I think I had a better time at BOA than when I was at WEMF. I couldn't have thought of a better way to pop my BOA cherry! Edgar V. was absolutely great. It was my first time hearing of him and boy did he impress me! JOOF...do I really need to say anything? I think the name alone says it all. Fleming rocked my trance world with an outstanding set. He is such a great dj and person. The energy all night long was superb. I had a great time sharing my "first time" with the TA's that were there! As for the venue...FUCK THE GUV! I was in awe when I saw this place. I thought the stairs were great but I do agree with Durfei...smoking should have been kept down stairs even though I myself was smoking. And $5.00 for a bottle of water was a little ridiculous but those energy drinks were amazing. I hope BOA gets more awesome trance headliners. Imagine if JOOF had a residency there???

By far the best party ive been to so far! and boa is also my new favorite venue, sounds/lights/layout/people simply amazing! partying with all the TA's made it sooooooooo good, especially meeting so many that i havent had the chance to meet before due to age resitrictions :P
Amazing.
I have a few qualms with this whole style code thing.
A)Staff weren't exactly dressed up.
B)The majority of the people there weren't that dressed up.
C)Boa isn't that nice...the decor is okay. But enough to have a style code?
D)If you're going to have a Trance night expect people to dance for the whole night. And people are going to be dressed for that. Not for coffee and cheesecake after the theatre.
The whole thing struck me as a bit odd. I was sort of "allowed" in (and then asked by "security" why I was feeling "good", my response was that Fleming was playing). If I wasn't allowed in I would have been rather po'ed. I think people(re staff) there should mellow out in general or take more interest in stopping people from smoking (that doesn't reflect well on the image of the club/venue).
Regardless, the sound system is amazing. Rosati should have stuck with proggy-Sasha type stuff. I was just standing around at times going...wow...awestruck at the sound. For sound the place had a very intimate setting.
Fleming was the highlight. Majority of it was CDjs. In my top 4 for nights/day out.
tracklisting anyone?
I was quite impressed by BOA and its sound. The last time I visited the club I had the chance to hear the sound in and empty room and it still managed to sound great. After playing on it last Sunday I like it even better. Being an old Theater the room is very quiet and holds the sound very well. The raised floor also helps the subs travel through the room. Without downplaying the Dynacord system I think any good quality system would sound fantastic in that room. The Dynacord system has a very HI FI quality and is comparable to any high end rigs like Meyers, VDOS or EAW. I love the fact that BOA spent money where it belongs... a real sound systems. They also added a great light show.
All in all the set up is great and the venue is very, very dj friendly. I would hope that they continue doing trance on a regular basis.

Its tuff when youre opening the night and start with an empty room... I try a different things to try and create interest and then take it from there. When i play a main slot you have the luxury of a full room and can play a more flowing set. If youre at an event that im playing at feel free to tell me what you like... I really do look for the feedback. thanks.
Walter
I also thought playing anthems at the begining of the night was a bit much. Walter should have played more proggy than he did.

Well, imagine my surprise when I come into the club, and see lazers that are going to give Guvernment's lazers a run for it's money. Awesome ! Lighting in general was superb, and greatly surpassed my expectations ! |

| Originally posted by trancechaos not be the bad guy, but i really have to dissagree with this statement. yes boa does have good lasers and put on a good light show, IMO the lasers arent anywhere near as good as the guv ones. i think most people have given boa a better review than it deserves. im not im the least bit saying its not a nice club, all i can say is that i was impressed by it, but by no means was i blown away. i agree that one of the main reasons the sound is so great dispite the increadible sound system they have is the fact that it was a theatre and the room was designed to carry sound well. i really hope to see more trance events in boa coz the crowd and energy kill the guv anyday. |

Damn
My hearing must be really bad now, I didn't even think it was too loud
sounds like it was a great time....
still havent been to boa, just waiting
for the right time/show to come up
tracklisting plz!!!!
It was a decent night- the first time that i have not torn up the dancefloor. not that i did not try but it was a case of the legs not being able to carry me. maybe the Celcius party had somefin to do with that. So i minded my own business and sat around absorbing the music. Got tired and annoyed with the attention I was getting, what is wrong with guys... Anyhoo- thank God for the large TA presence, it was quite easy to hang with you all without having to utter a single word.I WAS soooo tired. The vibe there was kinda weird, i thought. Music was loud- and i NEVER complain about the music being loud.
JOOF played hard- certainly got my dose of psy-trance. the rest of them were meh.....
Thanks to Floorwhore and Crazed Canuck for the royal treatment. Jeff- i promise to tear up the dance floor with you next time.
