I'll try checking it out. I made a cd, for fun, one time where I played all breaks at 45 rather than 33. The more nu-skooly breaks sound kind of like jungle, and the trance breaks had a hardcore on breaks feel. For an Angel and Heaven Scent are a trip in that format, but I groove out to it.

that is a good set! pure industrial hardcore / darkcore

Posted by th0m on Aug-06-2004 00:26:

I like hardstyle, although sometimes it sounds a bit cheesy, and I can't listen to it for too long. I have been to a number of Bitte Ein Beat parties though, always great fun

However, it is a bit ignorant to call people 'narrowminded', simply because they don't like hardcore. It's like me calling you narrowminded because you don't eat fish (assuming you don't), which you wouldn't because you dont like fish.

wow! that set looks sweet.

did you guys check my thread about italian hardcore?!

Posted by chojin on Aug-06-2004 12:25:

i'm not really a fan of gabber...some songs are listenable because they have nice interludes. the one track i have to say i like is scott brown - boomstick. even if you don't like it, you can cut really well with it, and the samples from army of darkness just rule

'who wants a little?'

DENG DENG DENG

Worm Popper

Im going to have to check out some Hardcore you peaple speak about.

Posted by Simcut on Aug-06-2004 13:28:

Talking

what about Scott Brown's collaboration on "Fuzzy Muff" - lmao

Scott Brown is a great gabber producer as well as happy

one of the best gabber tracks around is "Raw Power" by Genetik aka Scott Brown!!

Hmf. First half of that set sounds too much like newstyle (crap) IMO (Nosferatu excluded, Enzyme goodness), but after Miro things get a lot better. Promo is one of the better mixers I've heard within dutch hardcore also. If you liked this set I can also recommend Endymion - Enzyme Mix By No.1 Contender (something like that), has some seriously heavy stuff in it, especially the harsh industrial sounds towards the end.

More artists worth mentioning:

Leviathan (We Will Tear Your Soul Apart, Strength Of Unity, Nobody S-Capes Us etc. etc. Good stuff)

Atari Teenage Riot/Alec Empire (Heard an ATR gig on my local radio 3-4 years ago, and it remains the most vicious experience of my life musically. Intelligence & Sacrifice is awesome also, especially "New World Order" with that pure noise jam at the end)

Oliver Chesler (Still one of the most versatile hardcore artists I've come across)

Patrick van Kerkhoven (Prefer him as D'Spyre, but this guy is a true legend alone for doing Ruffneck/Gangsta back in the 90s)

Marc Acardipane (makes dreadful cheese/hardstyle nowadays, but from hilarious stuff like Drunken Piece Of Shit and I Like It Loud to pure dark madness like The Mover and Pilldriver, this guy still counts as a pioneer in my book)

Good to see some more interest for proper hardcore around here

i've got that one. on the flip to my copy of 'im in heaven'

not too great imo! :P

Posted by yoko on Aug-06-2004 15:06:

I'm also more of an "oldschool hardcore" fan...most of the stuff from today seems too much alike for me, and if I think about Hardstyle, that's just too damn slow

Also got around 80 or so Hardcore/Happycore vinyls here, favourite tracks include (no particular order):

3 Steps Ahead - This Is The Thunderdome
50% of the Dreamteam - The Thundertheme
Chosen Few - Name Of The DJ
Da Hellweazle - The 2nd War In Heaven
DJ Buzz Fuzz - Frequencies
DJ Buzz Fuzz - Jealousy (Is a MF)
DJ Promo - Can't Hold Me Down
DJ Rob - DJ Rob's 20 Seconds
DJ Waxweazle - I'm The Voice Of Rave
DJ Waxweazle - Start With An E
DJ Weirdo & Dr. Phil Omanski - Young Birds
Innerchild - Who're You Fucking With
Jappo & Lancinhouse - EXLXAXL
Omar Santana - Vitamin Oh
Omar Santana - Wizard Of Oh
Toni Salmonelli - Hey!

also some newer stuff like:

Bass-D & King Matthew - The Masterplan (Outblast Remix)
Unknown - 95% Against Me

I'm sure I forgot to mention tons of great tracks, that's just what came to my mind right now

Aint the following just legendary tunes?

3 Steps Ahead - Drop It
DJ Weirdo & Sim - Go Get Busy (With The Tempo)

RIP 3 Steps Ahead

Posted by ziddy on Aug-06-2004 16:58:

hmmm.. I've actually never considered listening to hardcore. I used to define it as cheese before but now that I've grown a little and got a little more open-minded I think I'll have to give it a new try. I'm going to check out some of the tracks mentioned in this thread.. so which me good luck.

I like Scott Brown and Anabolic Frolic, although Im assuming thats HAppy HArdcore and not what your all talking about.

Scott Brown - Elysium is soooo good.

Posted by Simcut on Aug-06-2004 20:34:

Talking

Scott Brown - Eternal Soul is as good as Elysium mate

Posted by sensorium on Aug-06-2004 21:15:

Oh shoot, I'm late. Thread suddenly switched to happy hardcore.

I enjoy most hard styles: gabber, makina, happy, terror, dark, etc. I don't blame other people for not listening to hardcore. Some are faithful to only a particular style of music. But people like me need a lot of music. From mellow-sadistic-chilling-late-at-night melodies to hard-fast-dark-beat-get-out-of-my-way tracks. Ignore that last sentence.

Point is: I like hardcore.

Yeah, it was all called house back then in Holland (I think).
Proof? ->

The Prophet - House Time! (1995)
3 Steps Ahead - Gabbertime (1997)

Though both are fast as hell and the first tune is certainly not House by today's common standards...got my point?

And I totally agree on the R.I.P. 3 Steps Ahead part...he did some WICKED tracks in his time!! (Hardcore, Hakkuh, It's Delicious, Thunderdome Till We Die, Gabbertime, Drop It, This Is The Thunderdome, ...)

Posted by Jessica.S on Aug-07-2004 20:18:

todays standards no, its not. yet it will still be a subgenre.

house> gabber (hardcore)> darkcore> terrorcore etc!
