lol ok, theres been millions of threads with this topic, but Ill give the same answer Ialways do: Cass & Slide - Perception (Vocal Mix)

as for Nothing but You, the singer is singing a scandanavian language (I think its norwegian, but i am not positive).

The lyrics are "Jeg har ingenting men jeg har alt nar jeg har deg" which translates to:
"I have nothing, but I have everything when I have you"
(Im also not sure about the literal translation, but I think this is close, if not dead on...)

She is singing in Norwegian and that is the proper translation. It is an old Norwegian song that Hemstock and Jennings used earlier. PVD then remixed it into his own version. Even the vinyl features Hemstock and Jennings.

I would have to go with:
Oceanlab ft. Justina Suissa - Satelite and Sky Falls Down
Chicane - Autumn Tactics
Cass and Slide - Perception (original vocal)
Holden and Thompson - Nothing (93 returning mix) (even though you can't understand the vocals)
Andain - Beautiful Things

Sarah McLachlan - World on Fire
Amiel - Lovesong
Peter Heppner / PvD - Wir Sind Wir

  1. Pappa & Gilbey - Skin Deep
  2. Oceanlab ft. Justina Suissa - Satellite
  3. Andain - Beautiful Things
  4. Delerium - Silence
  5. Sweet Drop - Human Nature

I've got a whole list of favourites and I can't put them all on here so you'll have to go with this :P

I also know one where the woman sings "fly me over the rainbow", nothing more than that. It's an old one but I don't know the producer. That one is awesome as well.

You've got to be kidding

here's real lyrics for you:

First, the master, Jeff Magnum.

Neutral Milk Hotel - Naomi

Your prettiness is seeping through
Out from the dress I took from you, so pretty
And my emptiness is swollen shut always
Always a wretch, I have become
So empty

I'm watching Naomi, full bloom
I'm hoping she will soon explode
Into one billion tastes and tunes
One billion angels come and hold her down
They hold her down until she cries

I'm tasting Naomi's perfume
It tastes like shit and I must say
She comes and goes most afternoons
One billion lovers wave and love her now
They could love her now and so could I

There is no Naomi in view
She walks through Cambridge stocks and strolls
And if she only really knew
One billion angels could come and save her soul
They could save her soul until she shines

So pretty

Neutral Milk Hotel - Three Peaches

So wake up run your lips across your fingers till you find
Some scent of yourself that you can hold up high
To remind yourself that you didn't die
On a day that was so crappy whole and happy you're alive

You're in the bathroom carving holiday designs into yourself
Hoping noone will find you but they found you
And they took you
And you somehow survived

So wake up and if the holidays don't hollow out your eyes
Then press yourself against whatever
You find to be beautiful and trembling with life
Because I'm so happy you didn't die

Neutral Milk Hotel - Oh Comely

I will be with you when you lose your breath
Chasing the only meaningful memory you thought you had left
With some pretty bright and bubbly terrible scene
That was doing her thing on your chest
But oh comely
It isn't as pretty as you'd like to guess
Oh comely
All of your friends are letting you blow
Bristling and ugly
Bursting with fruits falling out from the holes
Of some pretty bright and bubbly friend
You could need to say comforting things in your ear
But oh comely
There isn't such one friend that you could find here
Standing next to me
He's only my enemy
I'll crush him with everything I own

Your father made fetuses
With flesh licking ladies
While you and your mother
Were asleep in the trailer park
Thunderous sparks from the dark of the stadiums
The music and medicine you needed for comforting
So make all your fat fleshy fingers to moving
And pluck all your silly strings
And bend all your notes for me
Soft silly music is meaningful magical
The movements were beautiful
All in your ovaries
All of them milking with green fleshy flowers
While powerful pistons were sugary sweet machines
Smelling of semen all under the garden
Was all you were needing when you still believed in me

And I know they buried her body with others
Her sister and mother and 500 families
And will she remember me 50 years later
I wished I could save her in some sort of time machine
Know all your enemies
We know who are enemies are

Goldaline my dear
We will fold and freeze together
Far away from here
There is sun and spring and green forever
But now we move to feel
For ourselves inside some stranger's stomach
Place your body here
Let your skin begin to blend itself with mine

now here's a more traditional example of good songwriting:

Sarah McLachlan - Angel

Spend all your time waiting
for that second chance
for a break that would make it okay
there's always some reason
to feel not good enough
and it's hard at the end of the day
I need some distraction
oh beautiful release
memories seep from my veins
let me be empty
oh and weightless then maybe
I'll find some peace tonight

In the arms of the angel
fly away from here
from this dark cold hotel room
and the endlessness that you feel
you are pulled from the wreckage
of your silent reverie
you're in the arms of the angel
may you find some comfort here

So tired of the straight line
and everywhere you turn
there's vultures and thieves at your back
the storm keeps on twisting
you keep on building the lies
that you make up for all that you lack
it don't make no difference
escaping one last time
it's easier to believe
in this sweet madness oh
this glorious sadness that brings me to my knees

In the arms of the angel
fly away from here
from this dark cold hotel room
and the endlessness that you feel
you are pulled from the wreckage
of your silent reverie
you're in the arms of the angel
may you find some comfort here
you're in the arms of the angel
may you find some comfort here

PVD Together We Will Conquer

My vote goes to Paul Van Dyk - Together We Will Conquer, such a beautiful inspiration behind that song, a love song between him and his wife, with meaningful lyrics, and great cascading sounds supporting them.

Lyrics

easy peasy this one

Astral "Deliverance"

"This is no imagination, this is reality,
its the moment of truth that awaits us tonight,
I pray for my salvation as the Feeling rezonates in me
The darkest hour awaits us tonight...........

and we are lost we are forsaken, like a faded memeory
The weight of live lies heavy in your hands,

Deliever me
Im as cold as ice but the pain still burns inside
these days are dark as nights
Deleiever me
heaven knows ive tried but theres know way out in sight
These days are dark as nights.

I was blinded by temptation as the feeling slipped away from me
Like a ray of hope that has faded in time
There is no understading in this night of uncertentey
there's nothing left time to face the darkside,

They say that nothing lasts forever but this time were in deep
Drowning in this sea of madness

Repeat chorus

Chicane - Saltwater <- can't believe no one else has mentioned this yet

Lustral - Everytime <- the Way out West remix does it for me
Andain - Beautiful things
Chicane - Autumn Tactics

Deep river runs its course
To the warm horizon
Shadows of falling leaves
October moon and rusty skies
Everchanging feelings
The seeds of autumn in my mind

Hiding sun, like the hiding sun
Feels like it's just begun
Hiding sun, like the hiding sun
Waiting for summer sun

Hiding summer's age no more
No more leaves in summer sky
Turning dark on empty carlots(?)
When summer was my only friend
Sail back this way again
Winter's one breath away
Sail back this way again
Winter's one breath away
It's turning cold...

Hiding sun, like the hiding sun
Feels like its just begun
Hiding sun, like the hiding sun
Waiting for summer sun

Hiding sun, like the hiding sun
Feels like its just begun
Hiding sun, like the hiding sun
Waiting for summer sun

Hiding sun, like the hiding sun
Feels like its just begun

But yeh Autumn Tactics..great song and lyrics...

I LOVE good lyrics and despise bad lyrics, though sometimes mediocre lyrics are camouflaged in a particular tune (Satellite, I believe etc) or the vocalist can try to make them sound good by what they do with their voice (No one on Earth, Marrakech etc), or the producer distorting them (Nothing 93 mix, Prototonic etc) or the vocalist singing in another language (Saltwater etc) .

Some of the best lyrics i have come across in the trance scene are ofcourse: Beautiful Things
Fallen
gamemaster
speak in sympathy
flesh
silent words

Just a few examples, but they all have lyrics that actually are trying to tell a story of sorts and not just useless words clumped together.

All good lyrics have to tell a story i think, and be original, well that's the rule i use when i ATTEMPT to write 'em, otherwise what's the point? But lyrics all speak to different people for different reasons anyway..
