Have you watched Liverpool? What has Baros done compared to Owen for the last couple of seasons? Owen has scored an average of 1 goal in every 2 games for Liverpool, Baros, to be brutally honest, has done nowt in comparison. He's a prospect, but still a bit raw, he runs at defenders with his head down, his finishing is a bit suspect, his runs aren't particularly clever. He's still learning the game, Owen is already way ahead of him. Just ask any English football fan which striker he would rather have in his team and they will tell you Michael Owen because he is a proven goalscorer and Baros is not.

I can't believe you're suggesting that Baros is now a better striker than Owen because he played well for a couple of weeks at Euro 2004 as the main striker for the most attacking team in the tournament. I hope this is a windup.

of course the brits will say Owen cuz he holds a special place in every supporter's heart but that doesn't justify it

Had a feeling you'd come out with something like that because your argument is a ridiculous one. Owen and Baros have played at the same club, what better opportunity to compare them? Baros has always been behind Owen in the Liverpool pecking order and is only finally getting a first team chance because Owen is gone. That should tell you everything.

lol i call it obstination

I am not Brit and certainly not a Liverpool fan and I would say Owen is the better striker (for now). Being topscorer at a month long tournamnet is an achievement but it doesnt say all that much if you consider the fact that Salenko (who?) was joint top scorer at WC 94 and Suker was top scorer at 1998. By that rationale one would say Baros is a better striker than Henry.

Dont get me wrong, Baros is a great potential and I like his no nonsense striking abilities but Owen has too many times single handedly pulled Liverpool through rough times and not to mention the European Footballer of the Year award. Being a proven goalscorer at local and international football plus a move to Real Madrid does not hurt his credentials at all.

I wouldnt put adriano, baros and cassano there just yet, they all shown potential but are not world class strikers ... plus cassano is not an out and out striker else you might wanna throw raul in there as well ..... i think vieri deserves to be on that list more than crespo

Posted by InterMilan31 on Aug-18-2004 17:18:

Adriano plays for my club still is not top 10.(I watch every match)
Cassano plays for Roma who I watch frequently and is far from being top 10. Lets see him start a few games for Roma in a row.
Baros had a good Euro 2004 but what else did he have?
Crespo top 15
Trezeguet top 15 and many will flame me but he has too many excuses and misses way to much.

Also learn how to spell.

This top ten reflects how good the players were this year and they all proved themselves, Baros was amazing at the euro cup he proved even though he didnt play a lot at Liverpool he was the best striker during the euro, and Adriano at the copa America.

as for Vieri and Raul plz.....they didnt do jackshit this year.

guys dont get me wrong, Owen is a great player but these guys did better this year imo.

Are you out of your mind? Really! Crespo was shit this year and Copa America? The Copa is mostly a bunch of young players playing for their countries with a few national team players thrown in.

If your going by the rule "this year" than raveed has it correct. Ailton should be there. Not sure about Makaay but Drogba!!

Well every club is obviously interested in Euro top scorers, but I would be hard-pressed to remember any serious bids for Baros. Although, it is difficult for me to believe that only Tottenham tabled a 3 million bid.

Also, Baros said right at the start that he intended to stay at Liverpool and fight for his place and I think this straight away poured cold water on any transfer rumours.

Posted by evil_bastard on Aug-19-2004 20:20:

Barca were mildly interested, and Baros was very interested in them, but it came to nothing and Barca went for Eto'o.

Posted by fastmp3 on Aug-20-2004 00:53:

cuz eto'o wants to take his revenge against madrid and kick the shit out of them

evil_bastard: how can you compare what owen and what baros have done for lfc the past years, when owen played like 5x the amount of games what baros did.. if not more...

That's because Baros was not a first choice striker, he was on the bench at the end of last season even though he was fit.

Baros' case is similar to Davor Suker's , good for country , shite for club

He scored today. Davor Suker & Baros thats a little harsh.

You guys dont even support Liverpool and ur talking shit about a striker u barely know about and who hasnt played enough games for LFC.

Of course you would pay more attention to owen because
1)he is an england player(English football players get more attention and recognition for their work)
2)He has done a lot more for LFC due to the fact that he has ALREADY established the number 1 role way before Baros was in the scene.
3) Had baros been given the same amount of chances Owen's been given, I'm sure he'd score the same amount or even more than him.
4)Hes been injured for most of his stay in Liverpool
5)GH was never a big fan of Baros...prefering him to the useless Heskey
6)Even when Owen's form was dipping(remember those missed penalties),Baros still didnt get a chance.
