And i'm sure you're as good at judging a persons mental toughness by looking at them as you are by reading what they type on the internet.

To be honest I don't think either Phelps or Thorpe will take the gold. van Hoogenband pulled off an immense leg on the 4x100m relay, 46.7, and is reigning champion as well.

Thorpedo and Phelps
I'm with Incantation on this one, I reckon Hoogie will win, Thorpey has swum crap so far this week, a full three seconds off his 400 PB (which is a f*ck load), but I really hope Hackett bitch slaps them all tho.........
Thorpeys a big poof, him and Phelps should shack up together.
Australia is actually pretty good at the horse events, shooting (which you would think America would win, but then the targets aren't human shaped are they?) and the cycling, so we will still get a few more
Jana Pittman is either gonna collapse on her knee, or punish everyone in the hurdles......

Ian Thorpe is such a metro

What a race
Phelps ain't that bad, he won a gold and got a world record earlier, so his olympics have not been that bad.
You knew no one was going to touch Spritz's record
thorpe pwoned them all!!!!!!!

i thought it was a great race, wish the pool was a bit better suited to world records but still im loving the competition, maybe the brits can win a medal tonight!!

Hah if population was the case then China and India would own every medal.
Come on...everyone is into swimming now??? LOL!
The funny thing is countries start enjoying a sport when they fail in everything else. For example, say a country excelled in football, but over the years it became a third-rate contender. Then naturally the citizenry will move onto another sport. The cycle continues until at some time in the future the people of this hypothetical country will enjoy badminton!
We can see this happening racially in the US. As African-Americans have come to dominate basketball, football, etc, what sport is now suddenly popular? Moronic "NASCAR-dads" flock to the local track every weekend to see a bunch of cars go around in circles. Some of have secretly admitted that the new-found attraction was due to the "white-ness" of the sport. How sad
Which brings me back to swimming? See the Aussies cant excel in football, baseball or other sports so they must take comfort in the fact that they can swim. I would love to see how Aussies do in "real" sports such as track and field. Track and field is a true test of man's athletic prowess since we are essentially land-based creatures...not fish...We are BIPEDAL beings.
LOL!
Hahaha, you guys are only talking about phelps and thorpe.... Who won and defended his title in the most important swimming series of the olympics (100 M freestroke)??? Van Den Hoogenband! He just bitchslapped, both, Ian Thorpe and Michael "I am going 2 win 8 gold medals" Phelps
Keep it real guys....

i kind of like watching swimming but i think its more of an appetizer for the track and field events.
Phelps won the other day....
Thorpe is arrogant and full of himself. I can't stand people like him.
US starting to kick some real ass now, with more swimming golds today, along with major gymnastics wins. And we're not even to the track and field yet.
Yeah and the people who initially started this whole absurd thread seem to have quieted down. Must have been the 4x200 relay the other day that did the trick.

Who annointed you to the position to name the most important series? Tell Hoogenband to race the butterfly, backstroke, and breaststroke, get his results, then get back to me. |
I know plenty about swimming, been following it for 15 years. Important to who? To Netherlands because they won it? Seriously, there is abolutely nothing that makes the 100more important than the 50free, 200free etc other than some media hype because there are more big names in the 100free.
And since when has it been freestroke.
I don't know why all the Australians are getting on Phelps' and vice versa with the Americans on Thorpe. Why can't you just accept that they're both incredible swimmers. To be honest I think that Phelps is a better swimmer, not discrediting Thorpe in anway, simply because of his versality. He can do everything. You could argue that the 200IM is the true test as it combines all of the strokes and at world championships last year Phelps pissed all over everyone in that fina;l, including Thorpe. Also, Phelps never said he was going to win 8 golds he said he would like to but I think a lot of people have taken it the wrong way, I mean who wouldn't to win 8 golds.
