This article is pretty funny. I am not a pdiddy fan due to the fact that today's hip hop ...or should I say hip pop scene is something I try to avoid. Can't deal with the attitude and the whole bling bling package it comes in. I'd agree that most people who listen to EDM are not lovers of what is being offered up right now in the rap scene but I would say alot of that is due to the fact that the commercial stuff that is so popular right now is not really rap. Give me some old school Tribe Called Quest,WU-TANG or NWA and I would say ...yeah..I like rap and can appreciate rap talent when I hear it. Talk to me about pdiddy, nelly and others...well, I'd rather just leave that to the radio pop lemmings.
Pdiddy however is a brillant business man. Which is why him performing in Ibizia kind of surprises me. Don't really see the fit and he usually is bang on when it comes to knowing how to promote his product and where to promote it. Can't blame a guy for trying though.

| Police board P Diddy's yacht Spanish police boarded P Diddy's yacht moored off Ibiza after neighbours complained of loud music. Six officers boarded the yacht after complaints about noise, according to eyewitnesses. "They asked him to be quiet. He didn't respond to their satisfaction," a source told the New York Daily News. The rapper is currently holidaying on the Spanish island. |

Dude, I'm sorry for being so blunt, but equating a genre of music w/ cultural crime is ludicrous. About the equivalent of blaming Marilyn Manson for Columbine. The majority of comments in this thread have been just as ignorant as the people we shit on for cutting up our scene. Shame. |
To put it in the form of a university exam question:
Hip hop is to violence as:
a) President Bush is to fear mongering
b) Electronic music is to drug consumption
c) Orko is to bedwetting
d) Trance Addict is to complaining
e) all of the above

he he.
since when are we talking about gansta rap. have any of you ever heard p.diddy? he is so far from gangsta rap as you can get.
i am surprised that people booed him because obviously they knew that he was going to be at that club. if you don't like p. diddy then don't go that that club on that night.

I love the PSB

By the way...your argument doesn't stand very well Halo...and I can easily prove it by recent attacks on the black community by the legendary Mr. Cosby...and if you need direct quotes about what he said I can easily find that for you
Music and that specific culture that is tied to that music and portrayed in the videos has a HUGE influenece on kids today...if you think it doesn't you're just being naive...
*EDIT*
However P. Diddy is far from it...I have a lot of respect for him cause' as many already mentioned he's a brilliant business man and extremely hard working guy

Some of the best comedians in the world are actually very astute social commentators. They have to be, to find the humourous in the everyday things that most of us overlook. George Carlin and Chris Rock are just a few examples. But I digress...
Puffy getting booed of stage doesn't really come as any suprise when you recall that a few years ago the same thing happened to Armin van Helden when he experimented with hip hop during one of his sets. And AVH is actually a well respected house producers, so -- i guess all this really points to is that clubbers on the isle of Ibiza don't want to be exposed to Hip hop or Rap, when they've paid good money to get into clubs like Space or Pacha. They are comfortable with techno/house/trance/baleric beats and aren't really going to appreciate a change from the norm -- even if it comes from a superstar (if that's what he is) like Puffy. Fair enough, I say. Imagine Tiesto spinning cheesy trance at a rap concert. Forget about booing him offstage, he'd probably get capped by an irate hip hopper.( sterotypical or wishful thinking ? - i'll let you be the judge
)
Puffy probably over stayed his welcome on stage. I don't imagine one or two songs would have been a big deal (with minimal vocals i'll hasten to add)...but if Puffy thought he was performing in centrel park, then i'm glad he got heckled off stage.
