If a dj did that while im @ a party i would be soo pissed off @ the dj....just bacause theres a problem (after all shit happens sometimes) u dont gotta be a fucken jackass and be a bitch. whatever obviously people know its not the djs fault when system goes bad...the dj just spins...!

I saw M.I.K.E in Glasgow, Scotland do it. He was playing at the Arches in the second room and one of the decks was having a few jumping problems. He went metal and walked off refusing to come back for about 20 mins or so.
He did eventually come back on and played on but when it happened again he just left the club. The crowd were gutted, there was about 500 in the room to see him and he just left the venue.
Still technical problems can be a pain

In yojis case it sounds like ONE of his moniters was acting up. Not a huge deal... use the other moniter, or mix all in the phones... You might not be able to perform AS well, but you should still be able to play tunes, and beatmatch them reasonably well until the problem is fixed. If the mixer has split cue, he shouldnt have even bothered bitching. |
Tiesto did this at Kool Haus in Toronto in December 2002. He didn't just "walk off" but he quit spinning after maybe 2 hours. I was NOT IMPRESSED hence the fact that I had to buy my tickets off of a scapler and paid 80 dollars to hear Tiesto for a little less than two hours!!
I think that he was having problems with the mixer or something because I remember that there was a point where there was NO music playing for about 2 minutes.

They are djs, dont they remember thier early days, when they had to spin on whatever crappy equipment the club had for them? Dont the understand that they are there to entertain? point me in the direction of a rave with an actual dj thanks. Trust me ive checked the area out. Where i live the only raves are dark rooms filled with vietnamese kids who dont even dance, and they are playing dj skribble through a boom box.

Tiesto pulled that in 2002 at the Koolhaus, he was tired to begin with, you could tell he was jetlagged but the place was packed to see him because he tore the koolhaus apart with a legendary set in 2001. He played a horrible set with no flow or anything and about 3 hours into his 4 hour set, a cdj overheats, which I'm sure happens every so often, machines overheat and breakdown but noooooo, he did not just switch to vinyl and forget the cdj or use the other one, he stormed off stage to his manager and refused to play anymore, they had to get the deejay that was following him up, out of the lounge about an hour early to play. I left at that point because it was pathetic, 2300 people paid a decent prize, average ticket was 30-38 bucks, so full house, he came on late as well. Pathetic display, sure deejays are only human but I mean c'mon cdj overheat all the time, it was good he got off tho because the set was just horrible.
I've also seen deejays bitch about the equipment while playing. Steve Lawler is a picky bastard at times and he got the AV guy at one point trying to sort something out, there was no difference with the sound in the first place. He played 6.5 hrs (only scheduled to play something like 3 or 4 hrs) for 15 bucks.

| Originally posted by isoterra Where did you hear that from? It certainly looked pretty busy by that time... we had to queue to get in the main arena! I thought he'd just been delayed (stuck in 'traffic', ho ho ho)... something must have gone wrong at some point though because they were very behind schedule and Armin only ended up playing for ~40 minutes or so. |

| Originally posted by djianthomas i cant remember now, but we where told firstly that he was delayed and then we where told that he actually saw how many people where still outside (which included myself) and he was supposed to have refused to play until later on. dont know if it is actually true or not, but just what i got told |
he must stop to take drugs
The thing that pains me the most to think about when these big DJ's do things like that is how much they got payed, when I'd play at any of these clubs for free on shitty equipment :/
I know a guy that because there were no monitors in the dj booth turned on his latest mix cd and pretended like he was actually spinning the whole time. Wasn't a "big name" thou.

Heard this mentioned here before, never fail to make me laugh.
I remember Tiesto running off stage pissed off, he was late to begin with if I remember correctly. It's nearly 2 years ago, I remember what I remember.
I saw PvD in 2001, he walked off stage to try to follow a reporter from the new music. So for 3 mins, no PvD, you see the record just playing. The footage never made it to television.
