Diggers for sure... Though I've never seen him live yet, I'll see him at Cream in less than 2 weeks. I saw Sasha back in July when he was here and he was alright, but listening to Digweed livesets, the man is an incredible mixer.

My all-time favourite right now is the Essential Mix he did back in 2002 recorded live at Heaven... Some incredible choons in there and the mixing is impeccible!!!

I've seen Sasha 3 or 4 times now in Toronto, never really left a mark in my memory like Digweed did.

It baffles me how someone can make a comment like this and actually mean it. The only way Sasha and Diggers will be 'replaced' (whatever the fcuk that means) is if they decided to stop Dj'ing. This ain't pop music, bud...fans actually know their music here, and respect the work done by the older guys who have brought EDM to the forefront where it deserves to be -- and their achievements won't be forgotten anytime soon. The bubble gum factory philosophy of producing a new flava of boy band to 'replace' the old one doesn't work round here.

diggers for sure...EVERY SINGLE TIME ive heard him play out ive been into his set...sasha on the otherhand, the only times i can say that ive REALLY liked his sets has been when ive seen him spin with digweed...

sasha will throw down the odd good house tune here or there but for the most part he bores me...his music is too nice and pretty for my tastes...its not music i want to hear in a club when i want to party! too light and airy, too much pussy trance IMO

I'll reply to this topic after Labour Day. I've only seen Sasha so far, and I really enjoyed his set. Let's see what Diggers does for me.

Far away the greatest set I have ever heard was done by Digweed. No set before that or since should even be mentioned in the same sentence... no sets by Sasha, no sets by Tiesto, no sets by .

LOL you have no clue about what I know about EDM! Most people on the TA forum know I know my shit about EDM, Sasha and Digweed are dinosaurs, I'm sorry to say it, neither have had any great productions in a long time , 5 years of production and the best Sasha could muster was Airdrawndagger, please, nothing terrible on that cd, but nothing amazing either, wavy gravy was meh, don't even get me started on Digweed's productions, these guys are gonna continue slipping down in the rankings, Sander will overtake them soon, which is good news because he is better than both combined imo. Superior productions and live sets!

Sorry buddy, but just because you don't like their productions, doesn't mean other people don't as well.

A couple of other things:

1) 5 years is along time. Maybe you should go back and take a second look at what they've done. And don't forget live sets too and radio productions.
2) You say don't get you started on Digweed's productions, but sorry dude, I want to get you started. I want to hear what you have to say, because right now I pretty much think your clueless. Prove me wrong.
3) Are you referring to the same ranking list that places Mark Oliver higher than the likes of Parks & Wilson? Even mentioning those rankings should make anyone with a clue laugh his/her ass off.

So Airdrawndagger was just average huh. Ok, I see how you can say that, i mean as Fairy Corstens bitch i'm not suprised you don't appreciate the beauty of Sasha's album. Afterall, you probably expected every track to pump out at 140 bpm, with an epic rise, followed by the same corny breakdown heard millions of times over in the last few years...sprinkled with a few airy synths, horns maybe, cheesy vocals to top it off and then finally a grand ole 'gouryella' like finale.

Instead all you get is an introspective look at electronic music from a man, regarded by his peers as a genious. A 60 minute subtle musical masterpiece of lush soundscapes, woven togather to create a timeless album of 'electronica' that will still sound fresh 10 years from now. Yeah, somehow i'm not suprised you didn't find it amazing either.

Your claim of Sander K overtaking Sasha and Digweed, much like the rest of your post is evidence of careless, unsubstantiated thought

Which Digweed set are you talking about? My personal favorite has always been his essential mix from homelands 2001. Dark tribal beats from beginning to end.

I liked Airdrawndagger, personally. And I've always preferred trance to progressive sounds. But then progressive is really such a vague categorization - Digweed's music doesn't really have much in common with, say, Satoshi Tomiie's.

Anyway, point being, let's not turn this into a trance-bashing thread. Kytracid, come on, you've got good enough debating skills to make your point without ad hominem. It's not like Alec said that the future of dance music is going to be Ferry and AVB - he named artists like Sander Kleinenberg and Hernan Cattaneo who he feels are more original than S&D. Okay, fine, he didn't put it too eloquently, but there's no need to start bringing other genres into it.

I know from experience, if this thread turns into another genre war it's going to go on for weeks and attract all sorts of ignorance.

Fair enough, i'll agree my last post was written in a heated moment because I'm basically sick of all these hardcore tranceheads talking smack about DJs who have been around a lot longer then their so called 'gods' who they hold up on such a high pedestals.

If you can prove to me that Sasha and Digweed have somehow lost the skills which has made them so successful over the past decade then i'll accept they are indeed dinosaurs. Just making bogus claims however is liable to get you flammed. Sorry alec, but the moment you say things like that -- you know, you're bound to hear it from someone. ( Unfortunately you get an earful from both Me and Your Mother )

I never meant this to be a flame war, because the truth is, i still love my trance selection. Dj's like PVD, Armin van Buuren, Joof, Oakenfold have given me some of my most memorable club momments. Similarily producers like Vincent de Moor, Nalin & Kane, Agnelli and Nelson, Art of Trance, Thrillseekers and Solar Stone have in my opinion created some of the most beautiful music in the past few years.

But lets face it, most of the smack talked on this board about prog DJ's comes from the group of tranceheads who either only listen to Tiesto, or Ferry -- or the combination. I don't ever read thread titles with techno vs house, or techo vs prog, or prog vs breaks. I wonder why that is.

I suspect it's because there is a strange dichotomy amongst the members on TOTA, and it goes something like this :

1. The Trancehead -- the one who only listens to epic melodic trance. Everything else is basically crap/not beautiful enough/boring because it's not made of the same fluffy, syrupy goodness.

2. The Ex-Trancehead -- the one who has progressed from his obsession with only epic, melodic trance and now enjoys other genres of EDM. This individual while also listening to quality trance will also appreciate genres like techno, progressive, house, chillout, breaks, psy-trance, tribal, minimal, tech-house etc.

I consider myself an ex-Trancehead, I've been to Tiesto's concert back in 2000, and PVD even before that. I was at the last LOL with Ferry Corsten. I've loved Trance music during its hayday, only to see it stagnate for years because producers became complacement and decided to take the easy route and rest on their laurels instead of try to do something different once everybody and thier uncle started to make crappy trance tracks.

It was popular at one point on boards similar to this one, in threads where the subject of trance vs prog was brought up to say that "Trance was dead" - The truth is, it never died, it just went mainstream, got commerialized, and made 'gods' out of ordinary mortals who would have been better off, concentrating and producing better records instead of doing world tours.

Unfortunately, what was once beautiful and fresh 10 years ago, now just seems rehashed, recycled and repackaged. A bastard child being tagged along by pied pipers in pursuit of money and fame, fettered so it never moves too far away from the root, while legions of new fans follow blindly, unwilling to hear anything other then those rosy tones.
