I honestly don't think he would have mantained the lead either way, but it's still an incredibly shitty thing to do. He was pushing such an insane pace, and only getting faster near the end, but there was no way he could have kept at it all the way to the stadium.
What inspires people to do this, I have no idea. But he obviously has serious immature tendencies. I'm surprised he didn't have a Goldenpalace.com written anywhere on his body, those are usually the muppets that do stuff like this.

what a mess with countries that's going on here
the attacked maratonist is from brazil. the attacking wacko was first thought to be from portugal, but he's not. on the link it first said he was from ireland, they removed that info now, and refer to some nonsense he said on his message about israel.
My first thought when I saw the picture was that it was the same fuckwipe that got on track at the British GP last year. He is wearing the same costume!
Well this is our culprit!
I thought this guy was cock then and he is even more of a cock now. According to some of the news reports he went under psychoanalysis after the British GP incident. After all it is not everyday someone stands on a piece of tarmac as cars come towards you at 200mph in traditional Irish dress holding a placard with some religious crap on it. Guy is a complete

This guy is going to end up like the Rainbow Man.

it's that Irish **** again who should have been run over in the gp last year, i'd have actually laughed at that cos he's a piece of shit

lima is saying that it costed him the gold.
though actually, i cant say thats a stretch. He looked tired as shit, and was struggling, but you never know. I think after 22 miles of running, youre in a mental and physical state that should not be interrupted, and that stupid fuck more than likely fucked it up.
what a piece of shit, some people in this world make me sick
Once again I point the finger squarely at religion. It's a tremendous shame and a disgrace.

| Originally posted by Lira http://www.usatoday.com/sports/olym...-intruder_x.htm ------------------- Now, this is fucking pathetic. We're not a country of many medals. And those who manage to get one, do it without much financial support. They do it sweating their blood, making sweet from sour, as do the athletes from many other countries that don't have that much money to spend on sports, as we have other serious problems to take care of. Whenever we see someone from our land in the olympics, we cheer as if we were the ones who would get that medal. Doing the impossible, breaking our limits. Even if a Brazilian athlete loses, we cheer for him/her, as we know how tough it was to get there. And they did their best, fair play. Now, some cuntie bastard takes those sacred seconds for any athlete, of being on the lead of the Olympics' most traditional sport, and destroy that dream. I don't care how cheesy these paragraphs are, nor I care if I suck at swearing (lack of practice, I know), but I just had to vent. If the offender is Portuguese, blood of our own blood, this is even sadder. We suffered much in history, we still got debts to pay that belonged to the Portuguese crown... and, even if it's just one individual... why!? | Originally posted by Turbonium I honestly agree, wtf is with these insane idiots. Pisses me off. I love the Olympic ideal, and as you said, bastards like this screw it up. Respect for Lima for continuing even after being shaken though. Also to that guy who helped wrestle that idiot away from Lima (dunno if you guys saw). btw he's getting some special award for sportsmanship, so good for him. |

quote:
I saw that guy who smacked that priest up. The loonie was lucky there were no Brazilians around As for the special award, this is really a controversial decision. The Olympic Committe (sp?) wanted to grant him the "Coubertain" medal, which was given to a Canadian sailor who, despite of being on the lead, helped another sailor (from Singapore) that was drowning. In this case, he realised that the competition was more important than the medal. He helped another competitor, rather than being selfish. In this case, he didn't do a "noble act". He was attacked, plain and simple. It had nothing to do with sportsmanship, had it? If Lima were given this "Coubertain medal", it would completely under rate the Canadian sailor's act, and the medal would lose a bit of its original meaning. If they wanted to give him something, it should be something else. Either a golden medal or a "consolation prize". Either way, he still won't have the chance of doing athletes dream of: being the first to cross the finish line. And whoever said he wouldn't keep the pace - he got a bronze medal even with that incident. If he were not attacked (and wounded), he would sure get a better result (even silver, if you will).
quote:
Originally posted by jrbuddha I believe the reason they are giving him the medal is because at first he said he would have won the gold, but then changed his mind and said he was happy with the medal he won, and that there was no protest needed by the olympic committee of his country, because he earned his bronze. At least thats what I understood from hearing about it in the background earlier.
They initially asked for a second gold medal to be awarded to him, but were denied, so they were going to take it to the next level. (sports arbitration committee thingy...dont remember what they called it)

Saying the incident disturbed him and might have cost him a gold medal, Lima was supported by Brazilian team officials. They filed a formal protest, challenging the victory of Italy's Stefano Baldini and second-place finish of Meb Keflezighi of the U.S.
quote:
Later, he said the incident cost him the gold medal. But a protest filed by the Brazilian track federation asking that Lima be given a duplicate gold was denied.
