-- When did you start listening to trance?
Pages (6): « 1 [2] 3 4 5 6 »
i probably started listening to trance my senior year in HS well it wasn't trance only i started with crystal method, prodigy, and then moved on to oakenfold and tiesto, since i'm from the miami area i got in to george acosta and from then on i only listened to electronica. so it was probably around 2000-2001. but i've been really fully in to trance for about a year i would say listening to a wide variety of artists/dj's/producers not just the mainstream stuff! love it and always will!
I've been listening to trance for about four years now and I can't get enough of it.
I started listening trance in the time of Dance Trends on Radio 538 (NL) with Wessel van Diepen, ... the beginning of Marco V and stuff, ... Tiesto - Sparkles. 1996/1997
for me it was about 1999-2000 in there somewhere......
well...i start to listen to dance music at 1998 but, i start to listen to real trance at the start of 2002 after i heard those 3 tunes at MoS.
1. Flutlicht - The Fall
2. DuMonde - Never Look Back
3. Mauro Piccoto - Like This Like That
Got into the trance-type sound in 1996 when I heard Robert Miles - Children, but since I was about 10 years old then I didn't have access to much other than the commercial dance out at that time. I think it was 1998 when I first started listening to what would be classed as 'trance' nowadays; Cafe del Mar, Binary Finary, Ayla, For an Angel, Storm etc, as well as the first Chicane album. So I guess I'm one of the clueless newbies.
1999 was my introduction to the genre
i was listening during the days of
UnderWorld - Born Slippy
CJ Bolland - The Prophet
Prodigy and crystal method.
not trance, but that was the beginning.
'98.

1999 with cheesy trance
late 98ish for me, friend of mine had made a comment on some pants that i bought - said they were "raver pants" and that he didnt like ravers cus they do drugs and listen to electronica (he was a big metal head) i asked him what he meant by electronica and he told me trance, house, trip hop, rave, drum & bass... i was curious as to what trance was so i did a search on kazaa for music in the trance genre, there were alot of results so i picked the quickest to download which was supposedly a Tiesto track... fell in love with it as soon as i heard it so i figured "hey tiesto is good"
did a search on tiesto and it came up with all sorts of oldies as well as some other BS tracks which people had put down as tiesto tracks, the next one to finish loading was Push - Strange World off magik 7 i believe which had me hooked from then on
before all that though, i was pretty into industrial stuff which was pretty different from the usual blink 182 and other mainstream of the day like orgy and ramstein and prodigy... always liked prodigy... something different with more to it than just lyrics about an ex girlfriend and guitar riffs
I got into trance near the end of 99

I started listening to EDM when i was 15 that was way back in the 1990. That time i was so into Commercial Hardcore/Happy Hardcore (Scott Brown, D.O.A., Bass-D And King Matthew, The Mascochist, Sy And Unknwon & Brisk) and Decent Hardhouse and Hardtrance (Para-Dizer, Mega Lo Mania, PLastic Angel, Karim, Baby Doc And SJ & RR Fierce) until i found trance in 1992
In 1990 I listened to clubtunes
In 1992/95 it was all Eurodance
From 1995 until 1997 it was hardcore, rave and happy hardcore
Than along came 'Future Trance' a small tape I bought....and that changed it all....
1998 was all about trance, I discovered the Magik series and DJ Tiesto in particular and started to totally worship him... I owe him my love for trance. I owe him a lot, for that matter.
Than along came 'Laut & Leise' from Tom Wax & Jam X & DeLeon...that was the first real hardtrancetrack I heared... Than I got myself some tunes I found really hardtrance at that moment. Like Pulsedriver, DJ's @ Work, Aquagen, Beam & Cyrus.
Until that very day 'Never Look Back' reached my ears.... And that's when I left all the named above behind me and came to the good hardtrance-stuff! Through that I discovered other genre's like harddance and UK hardhouse... And that made me the happy camper I am today!
Juno Reactor in 1996.
I started listening to trance full on about the time I registered on this site, july 2001.

Heavy metal died and I needed some excitement in my music. Trance revived it....
[[[smoke]]]
Well..can't remember exactly when, but..i think it was in the end of 6th grade. I was 13 or something, so..maybe 8 years ago?
Around the time that Armin came out with Communication! I have been a fan of Armin since then. I think it was like 1998 or 1999.
I first discovered the early German trance in 1993 from a cassette which one of my cousins gave me. I liked it a lot, but I never exactly knew what to call this kind of music till by chance I discovered Cosmic Baby's album titled "Thinking About Myself" and a compilation titled "Logic Trance 2" in late 1994. However, completely by chance in April 1995 Grace's "Not Over Yet" sent me down a different path of UK Trance/Progressive house and led me onto UK based labels like Perfecto, Platipus, Limbo etc.
96-97 I'd say. Listened to oldschool jungle, techno and then eventually came across trance via the media exposure the Hyperstate parties that took place in Oslo back then got.
