i agree that male vocals fit better in prog. and fit best in hard, with repetative vocals that hypnotize you

yeah top tune with top vocals, but theres as seen in this thread alot of good tracks with male vocals, which i think its more than good since in average the female vocalists are pretty shitty...

I do, but there's blatantly (in normal trance anyway) less male vocals, just interesting to wonder why, if they don't fit as well, or if they're just not sought after like in other styles.

i didnt read the whole thing, but its easier for females to hit the higher trancy melodies that are associated with trance, and males to match the bass in prog & housier stuff...

The only 2 that I believe work in EDM are BT and Dave Gahan.

What? I beg to differ. I must admit, I think there may be too many tracks he sings on, but I rather enjoy his vocals. That's one talented man. I think he is probably the reason that we are seeing more male vocals in EDM and especially trance. Although we still don't have nearly as many male vocals as female in trance, it seems a trend is starting for more and more of them.

Blackeight- The Silence Pvd rework!!! DOPE DOPE DOPE male vocal but only pvd's version the original sucks.

Since everyone else has contributed I will give you a few as well

Chemical Brothers - Out of Control ( Sasha RMX)
Rogue Traders - Stay

P.S.

Check the posts I made in the new 12" release forum ...alot of those have male vocals in them as well

Posted by N-Tys on Sep-16-2004 01:26:

damn what the track im thinking of its got male vocals i think the songs called "On a High" vocals go "Im on a high, on a high, Nothing more to it" anyway that is one of the only tracks i love with male vocals the other one was bt - force of gravity ferrys bootleg mix

Rock has been male dominated for a while now, and only recently have females entered the mainstream as "frontmen".

I think the same is typical of EDM, trance in particular. Female vocals seem to be the norm, as cheese tends to be a popular genre that leads new listeners into EDM. And it seems only recently tunes with male vocals have become more prevalent through recognition.

Duncan Sheik - On A High [Love From Humbolt Vocal]
Blackwatch vs Quivver - Loveless
Michael Burns - Corrective Tones [Panoptics Open Sky Mix]
Kyau vs Albert - Velvet Morning [Mirco de Govia Mix]

I've been out of the loop a while, but those tunes are yum.

My favorite !!!!!

like many say, it's a matter of taste, i like male vocals to a certain degree, i can't stand the high pitched male vocals because it sounds sissy. but it is also the fact that dance music has always had the female vocalists and many get used to that and block out any tracks with male vocals

Posted by Dave Piazza on Sep-16-2004 02:26:

I have been looking for Quivver - These are the Days for weeks!!!

This is a great tune.

I agree 100%.

they don't work because they usually get some queer sounding dude to sing them and then the lyrics are pants to begin with...if we had some talented writers who could sing without sounding like retards then you'd have a winning combo....

Shit yeah that is a great track. Also I agree with whoever said Blackeight - The Silence (PvD Re-Edit).

Hey why not going with marc et claude feat. Tony Hadle - Feel You ? remember that legendary wippenberg remix, its like waaah )
male vocals are as good as female vocals, just depends on how they sound

Posted by DjSimonB on Sep-16-2004 17:48:

Male vocals can be great. And don't act like there's never been songs ruined by female vocals. I just think it depends on the song, and like some other people have said, the 'norm' for female vocals. Anyway, since other people are making lists...

The Youngsters - Smile (Sasha's Involver remix)
UNKLE - What Are You To Me (Sasha's Involver remix)
Anything by Underworld, although their vocals are usually a different style than plain singing
Yet Another Day (heh, I liked it, and I'm not exactly an Armin fan)
Josh Gabriel - Alive

It's annoying that sometimes male vocals (e.g. on Alive) are put through so many electronic FX, it just gets rid of the natural emotion and sound quality... It sounds fine on Smile though, but that's just because Sasha is a great producer.
