I am a student at HCC Northwest, Town & Country. I believe San Jacinto also offers the same degree/ certificate plan. Im currently pursuing the Applied Audio Sciences (AAS) degree. Here's the website for my school's audio department:

If you want to learn more about it on your own before taking the courses, I recommend picking up the book Modern Recording Techniques by David Miles Huber, if you read a chapter a week before taking the first 3 audio engineering courses..gaurunteed to make straight A's. Damn good book as well...

Thanks for the info Matthias.
But do you know if university or colleges that offer a 4-year degree or batchelor degree for audio engineer?

I do not want an asssociates (2 year) degree.

Nice! Hey whats the cover for that place. I might have to go anyway just to talk to some DJs there. Also when on Tuesdays is a good time, or on Saturdays?

No cover monday- thursday. 5 and 7 on a regular saturday night.
Djs that come for the open tables usually get there at 6 because spots tend to fill up fast.Sets are 1hr long and all types of music are allowed. We also do open bands on tuesday.

I know Rice University does, where a few of my instructors went who have masters and doctorates in engineering. I plan to pursue higher education past an associates, but not inside Texas.

I'm taking this semester off cuz of financial reasons. Other bills needed more immediate attention and I havent qualified for financial aid yet. Plan to pick classes back up in the spring. Most of my classes were in the building where the theatre is so I didnt usually see most of the people at HCC lol. Ah well.

Another thing to consider...just my 0.02... is that you can get your 2 year degree at HCC or wherever at a lower tuition cost, then seek out furthur education at a University. Rice isn't easy to get into unless you have ultra SATs and/or good reccommendations. Just saying...

Another thing most audio engineers in the industry, including some who have 20+ years working in mastering suites, only achieved the basic certificate. Seeking the highest education possible is commendable, but alot of the same stuff can be learned on your own and in the industry itself doing internships and whatnot.

Another book I recommend since your going for a 4 year degree, is:

The Principles of Digital Audio 4th Edition by Kenneth C. Pohlmann. This is the required text for audio engineering courses 4-6. Not for beginners though... definitely read Modern Recording Techniques first.

0.02

Hope this helped...

Yeah I can't buy any DJ shit until more money starts to kick in. It's not easy for college students. I almost had to wait a semester as well. Good luck with the financial aid man.
