ok you are just simply talking out of your ass...this is 100% opinion based, there is no right or wrong, so why don't you come back when you are able to grasp that concept.

and for the record, i happen to like both G-Unit and Nas...so sue me.

werd

nas is soo much better than 50 cent

1000000000000000000x better
his lyrical content is soo much more imaginative. and its not about fucking bitches and stomping people or making drug deals.

its underground because its not commercial. when it goes commercial, its usually because it has the same kind of additude which is what attracts people to 50 cent and the likes. underground is because it hasnt been raped by the public because its not what ever other person is looking for. but indeed its alot more powerful and thought provoking. not to mention, it doesnt talk about the usual bullshit like you see in every other hiphop song

here are still a couple of good commercial hiphop artists. black eyed pea USED to be great until they got commercial raped and that dumb bitch was put in there group. talib kweli used to be great..but hes starting to become alot more commercial too. its just when an artist gets her/his break and the artist gives the public what there looking for, which right now at this moment in time, is bootys, cash, guns, and respect (fear not real respect)

people who like this additude are stuck in a consumer loop and need to get out asap.

and of course every song that comes out by them will be a hit, again its the public being butt fucked by the record companys and all the big time money makers. THE WHITE EXECUTIVES MAKING THE MONEY AND THE MOVES.
50 cent and co. may as well be taking it in the little pooper because you think they have lots of control over what they do? you may as well listen to the record execs speak, because they make all the moves. so 50 cent is just a fucking bitch

Posted by {b.s.e.} on Sep-20-2004 20:16:

blackalicious, jurassic 5, atmosfear, murs/grouch/living legends are all worth checking out.

Posted by Slylee on Sep-20-2004 20:24:

ok so judging by what everyone wrote, i guess "underground" basically means the lyrical content has to have more meaning than just rapping about a hard knock life and selling drugs and hooking up with hoes. that's fine, but i mean don't you guys agree that it's also the actual music/beat/melody that is important?...i would certainly hope so, since you guys are into edm.

and i seriously don't know what you guys are talking about with nas, because if i remember correctly, didn't he have this lyrical war going on back and forth with Jay-Z? all they did was go back and forth with those, "fuck u N* i'm badder than you" type of stuff...still sounded good, but i mean c'mon. jay-z is awesome too in my opinion.

lyrical masters TO ME, are andre & b-boi from outkast...

one of my favorite songs from ATliens.

Intro: Big Boi

Uhh
As I sit in my b-boy stance
With flip-flops and socks, and sweatpants
We finna enhance your brain, check it out

Once upon a time not long ago
When the playa from the Pointe didn't have no flow
A nigga hit me for my tennis shoes, walkin to the sto'
Caught a nigga slippin, but now I lay it to the flo'
just like carbon, cuz I got the heat in my rhythm
Momma nay not, never braggin just to stay knot
Even when I was a younger lad I learned my lesson
Never talked to strangers in the trap and answered questions

The Pope and his folks got us under a scope
But for unknown reasons cuz we don't sell dope
That you distribute, we don't contribute, to your clandestine
activity, my soliloquoy, may be hard for some to swallow
But so is cod liver oil
You went behind my back like Bluto when he cut up Olive Oyl
Two things I hate lies and thieves they make my blood boil
Boa constricted, on my soul that they call

Touched by the wheelz of steel...
Now show me how you feel...
Touched by the wheelz of steel...
Now show me how you feel...

It took your momma nine months to make it
But it only took a nigga thirty minutes to take it
Cut that kronk clean up I did, but I did so not safely
Don't want no AIDS, *clapping* no claps, or no rabies

Yo, we take no shit, like arms stuffed up commodes
Gotta collect call, they done locked up my folks
Low blow, hit me in the left ventricle
We won't be able to ride out till two thousand fo'

But not for long cuz we got a better sack to serve
Tryin to take you other people for your rims at the curb
Fore you swerve and bust ya forehead, go head, go head
More head for me, while you ride to the beat

Drop, like Tears, like For Fears, you know
Shout Shout let it all out, just for my peers
And pupils who feel like it's time to unwind
Like December 31st, on nineteen-ninety-nine

Okay, like this, yeah yeah
One time for my boy doing King shit
Two times for Legit and it don't quit
Three times for my folks in the drop top
Four times OutKast and it don't stop
One time for my cuz doing Queen thangs
Dead fresh to the teeth eatin chicken wings
Three times for my guhls in the beauty shop
Four times OutKast and it don't stop

i haven't heard that song in so long since i lost that cd...i think i'll go buy it today after work

Posted by twisted on Sep-20-2004 20:31:

definatly agree with you there..

outkast imo are pioneers...there eather gunna make hiphop or break it right now.

underground is just stuff that hasnt been asshammerd by record labels and little hiphop kiddies

because there are still tons of x-raided hardcore gangsta rappers...

dr. dooom, x-raided, brotha lynch hung, mac dre,

but i gotsta love G-Funk...Warren G...that kinda thing. back when nate dogg wasnt a household name and he didnt get put in every remix and everyfucking collaboration.

but still...the artists i listed in my first post...those are the best

IMO

commercial does not automatically mean something sucks, so why don't you get a clue, if that's possible.

i can't belive you would say g-unit is shit and then say nas is good...lol

man .. u don't want to hear all that b.s. about nas and how he is like the "true underground" of rap and hip hop and everything ..

rap is rap, and hip hop is hip hop .. any true listener would know the difference between rap and hip hop (don't ask me, because i am not a "true" listener.. hahaha) ..

but it is just like trance .. we all have the trained ear for what is good trance and bad trance (well i would not say all, but MOST of us in here) ..

but i can't count the number of years i have kept on hearing how nas is all the shiznit and everything .. i really don't notice the difference between him and let's say eminem .. but then again, i don't have the trained ear for rap and hip hop ..

Posted by itsTrueSonic on Sep-20-2004 21:01:

i will say this ..

the people who say "nas > g-unit + 50 cent" will also say

like " john "00" fleming > tiesto " or "nu-nrg > gabriel + dresden" .. they will always say their "elitest" thoughts, continuing their harsh backing aways from the supposed "commercialism" .. even though some may be too "commercialistic", say like tiesto the past couple of years (.. i just said a double standard there, didn't i?? oh well) ..

but you can't judge someone, just because they look too commercial .. i would admit .. there was a time i liked sammy .. then my pleasure died in 30 minutes (<== that's about the same amount of time as my pen0r, but that's a different story .. )

Posted by Disco_Gibson on Sep-20-2004 21:15:

heres wot it is...

tht song 'on fire' has an awesome beat IMO.i dont care for the lyrics.i like the deep beat and bass stabs.i wanted you guys to recommend stuff exactly like it and not stuff like d12,eminem,2pac,snoop all the charty shit.i know i know on fire is a hit but thts just the type of beat and melody i like in rap.

also, the big beat in j-kwon - tipsy is amazin IMO.but it has been ass raped by its chart success.

im just after big beats and tight melodies.

if that makes sense guys

sorry

not true.. i like nas a lot better than wee-unit and half dollar, but i like tiesto better than j00f, even though j00f is fckin awesome..... same with nu-nrg and g&d, i prefer g&d over nu-nrg...

well having listened to both a fair bit, i'd say nas > g-unit and 50 cent
easy
so btw, can we safely define 'elitest' as thinking that your opinion is correct?
cause as far as i know, most people think that their opinions are correct, thats what makes them opinions
it just seems once someone has a narrower opinion than the masses, then that opinion is 'elitest'
not everything that excludes is elitest
being elitest would be saying you listen to 50 cent and i listen to nas, therefore i'm better than you
but saying nas is better than 50 cent is just opinion

ps lil jon sucks

ok well heres the thing the reason why g unit is on fire right now is because of their beats...whoever is doing the beats for them is what makes them so different and is why theyre on top..i dont think dre is producing for all of g unit only a few tracks here and there..my advice to you is find out who the producer is on on fire and find other tunes hes been producing as of late...my other advice is to get the lloyd banks album cause theres alot of amazing beats on that cd. for example im so fly by lloyd banks the producing in that is amazing also i love warrior remix feat eminem and 50 on that cd..the beat is incredible as well.. i got to admit as well for producing i really like bad boy they got alot of original beats. anoher good mention for an amazing pick me up beat would be p.diddy and the family - lets get it... these are the beats ive been jammin too lately..and yes people i know i know p diddy sux and so does g unit cause theyre "commercial" hip hop but the man asked for good beats not for amazing lyrics and meaningful message based songs..also i love the new lil jon terror squad song.. i love that beat but if ur gonna dl it or get that tune i suggest u get the biggie smalls remix..i think its called the new york remix or the bronx remix or something..anyways hope that helps a bit

ps if u want to talk abt good underground rap, mos def talib kwalei and common, also a good mention is immortal technique (that is if ur intrested in political lyrics)

Posted by mmilo on Sep-21-2004 03:41:

Yep, it's a sad thing. I'm not one for most of the lyrics in commercial hiphop.

Gangsta rap had to have started somewhere though; I mean, I think I'm a lucky guy. I never lived in a bad neighbourhood or anything. Normal life. But not everyone's lead that kind of life.
It's not surprising its popular. It's a cultural thing almost. It's kind of rebellious music. Thugs, money, hoes, you know.

I love the beats though. Catchy, addictive, and very real. I wonder if the producers are making alot of money?

Thanks for your "concern." I was just posting a link to a site I had found, they are not my recommendations.

Thanks for playing.

why can you not believe this? dude, again know what the fuck ur talkin about before u say somethin, damn i just keep my mouth shut if i dont know the details of certain things instead of making bold statements. for one, Nas is considered one of the top 5 all time rappers, you could debate that but his illmatic album will go down in rap history as one of the greatest. He is respected in the rap community along the likes of 2pac and BIG. That is the difference my friend between GUNIT! and Nas. I mean sure i bet 50 cent was a grimey nig back in the day, got popped 9 times but look at his size man. It's all image to sell records...look i got shot now i'm street credible argh argh, when fact is i spend most of my mornings in the gym lifting weights and sipping evian, to further boost my thug image.
