First time I hear of that, hmm their commercials are still playing so thats kindda odd if its the case, but anyway Fido went downhill since a couple of years cause all the big names caught up with them and they just cant keep up with the market..

you gotta give it to them tough, its because of companies like these that cell phones are now affordable to just about anybody and so popular these days

I got Fido once for 1 week and it was terrible.
the receptions is not good (no repcition at York )

only good thing about Fido is the GSM system, but now it's worth it to get Fido.
Fido prices with Rogers tech will be great

or maybe it's just talk to get people to sign up and save this crappy company

Scary thought..This might very well be the end of competition as far as GSM market goes...

...if the Fido/Rogers deal goes to shits (basically, service gets worse, rates go up, etc etc), I wonder if a new company will come and be the new "Fido".

But I'd like to see some of the big companies move in, like T-Mobile and have them setup a network here. Rogers would get owned so fast.

I think I'm gona go get a FIDO phone/plan tomorrow. But I heard FIDO has bad reception problems.

this is all relative to where you live and where you're calling from in the city..

generally speaking FIDO has good coverage in urban areas like downtown TO. you may hav trouble placing calls in the suburbs in such areas like York University.. atleast for the time being

FIDO just released a new plan with free unlimited incomming calls St_Andrew I think you might be some kinda saint after all...can you predict the future?

Actually microcell is a new company installing antenna's on top of my building where i currently work. I hope fido doesn't go out of business, I think it might be just a change of names? maybe? I wantesd to sign on witht he 45$ service... oh dear....

Well cingulair and AT&T have officially joined forces in the US and advertise it all over. Cingulair = fido and AT&T = Rogers so yeah it's comming if not here already

Cingular does not own a majority controlling share of Fido as per Canadian telecommunications laws and AT&T sold their shares of Rogers Wireless last year. They have nothing to do with the company anymore and divested any stake they formerly had in it.

Man FIDO was the drug dealers cell network.

I remember when i was a pathetic little dope pushing fiend i needed a cellphone but i was paranoid about getting traced and caught n shit... finally i went to business depot i think it was... i picked up a FIDO pay as u go phone... and never had to give one single little piece of information... mind you it took me a week of being on the phone 6 hours a day trying to activate it without giving out any personal info... but finally i found this crooked little CSR named Andrew J (cant remember his last name) which just entered invalid personal info for me... Every Dealer I knew phoned and got the exact same thing... so im sure Fido will be missed by the durham region drug dealers

Rogers has to honour all contractual obligations that existing Fido customers had with Microcell on their service plans.. so don't expect anything drastic to change atleast within the next 2 years.. after that who knows ..

it seems that existing Fido customers are gonna have it worse than existing Rogers ones .. while Rogers users will be able to roam on the Fido network at no additional charge, Fido customers will only be able to do the same on the Rogers network FREE for the next 3 months, after that, they're required to pay an additional $5 for network access..

Yeah the guy from Danger (the company that makes the Hip top that fido sells) confirmed all this with us today here at T-Mobile. DAMN CRTC!!!! IF it was not for them I would have an Employee phone in Canada!!!!! T-mobile has some nice handset

That seems reasonable, considering it's only Fido users who are interested in roaming on the "other" network. Technically, there are no areas that Fido operates in that Rogers does not. Therefore, charging money for it would be pointless as no one would buy it. But for Fido users you gain a lot from it, therefore they have something they can sell.
