(Clubbers Guide to Trance)

Taking your example 'Clubber's Guide to Trance' from 1999 mixed by ATB and I will have to disagree with you.

There are some songs on this CD I sure people will have different opinions on in regards to whether they are cheese.

On disc 1 (I'll just post a few of the tracklisting):
System F - Out of the Blue
Salt Tank - Dimension
Kamaya Painters - Endless Wave (Albion Mix)

On disc 2:
Hybrid - Finished Symphony
Sasha - Xpander
Push - Universal Nation
Breeder - Twilo Thunder

Some of these songs may have gotten too much exposure, but not necessarily cheese. Cheese is a personal feeling for everyone. For me, if it makes me cringe when I hear it, I label it as cheese. But, that is my opinion. Gouryella is also on disc 2, which I am not particularly fond of, but you go to any 'What is the greatest Trance track of all time' thread and you will find Gouryella posted by many.

If you can say that the songs I listed are cheese, then that is just your opinion, but saying anything that appears on 'XYZ' trance compilation, that is just a narrow minded statement.

SPECIAL D.

That's horrible cheap music...
People actually think when they listen to it that they're listening to the good stuff!!
It's so worse that even DJ Sammy and Scooter throw themselves off a cliff...

Actually, I don't consider those tunes to be cheese - thats probably the definitive Trance compilation.

I was making an observation about eRRaTik's sweeping statement about MoS comps, we later resolved his statement down to Annual compilations.

CGTT - no cheese

Ok, I step down from my pedestal.

what i consider cheese, is any type of trance music with some "bitch/basterd" singing over the tune, and they sing about the shittiest stuff. most of the tunes would b good if them ****s wernt singing about there long lost fukin love.

"Long live the Trance"

Imo cheese is pop music with a really catchy melody while using a factory preset on a synth. I luv cheese personally.

As much as I like her, I'm gonna say Kelly Llorenna definitely

And whoever said Kate Ryan & Scooter, I agree. But theyre not completely cheese. People use them to get into trance but they dont just ditch them like other introductory artists, you keep liking them. I dont know if they would be completely cheese or not, they both still have credibility to me.

People are doing a better job of describing epic trance than I ever could.

Posted by NiteMer on Sep-24-2004 22:20:

One cheesy track I own and still play at the right moments is Novaspace - Time After Time. Cheesy as hell, but good in a way, and the bitches love that shit.

Some epic trance is cheese, hell, a lot of it is. There is also a lot of epic trance that isn't cheesy. It's drawing that line that separates a good trance dj from a bad one.

Posted by tribu on Sep-24-2004 22:31:

My definition of cheese is songs that use cliche'd production techniques and well used hooks as its main focus.

Almost any song with vocals is cheese in my opinion, because the vocals (in trance) are nearly always vapid. They sound like love poems written by an average 6th grader, with the ocassional exception.
