Yan, that was the other thing that was confusing me... I know the PSOne had a screen, whereas this PS2 does not. |
PSOne did not come with a screen. You could buy a screen for it but that was optional. The PSTwo's screen is on the way.
The name classifications go like this now:
PS - Original Playstation. It was originally called the PSX but they ended up pulling the name for a future console of theirs...
PSOne - Small version of the original Playstation.
PS2 - The sequel to the Playstation. With 10x more power, this monster would soon dominate the console world. The library is huge due to backwards compatability and that's a really great move on Sony's part.
PSX - The Tivo/Playstation 2 all-in-one console that was released in Japan but never hit U.S. shores. Current plans for a Stateside release are unknown...
And now,
PSTwo - The mini-PS2. Taking one of the most powerful consoles to a mini-scale. Yet another great move on Sony's part.
and
PSP - The Playstation Portable. The first entry in the handheld market. Need I say more? Go Sony!

However, regardless of this smaller PS2... someone else told me Sony was selling the new PS2s with a faster chip? Any info on that? |
Rumour. Not true at all.
Sorry it took me some time to reply. I've been away for the weekend.

No problem.
The PSX is quite pricey, though. I think it debuted for around 600 dollars in Japan. Not worth it, honestly.
