yeah I think final scratch is the best deal between cds and vinyls.....

Posted by j@y on Sep-27-2004 22:37:

do you actualy have to beatmatch with final scratch?

Posted by Mike_B on Sep-27-2004 23:12:

how much does final scratch go for

Posted by ZinG on Sep-27-2004 23:13:

yes ofcourse
thought u can visually see the start/ending of a track plus the break downs as it analyzes the frequencies. A bit more detailed than a vinyl, you can see with vinyl the breakdowns of a track

Posted by djlemeir on Sep-27-2004 23:18:

its the EXACT same thing as vynil.
just that i heard that fs sux cuz its not stable (software wise)

rane/serato came out wit scratch live. wich is sed to be more stable

Posted by ZinG on Sep-27-2004 23:23:

Final Scratch uses Tracktor DJ now, which is more stable than the old interface they were using.
So far all the djs using final scratch are having 99.9% error free sets

cdj's

why do i use cdj's?

my responsibility to the dancefloor comes first...if sander sends me a track six hours before i play i think its selfish to say i would not play it that night to paying customers just because i want to wait for the vinyl, although for some the value of playing vinyl is above that of their desire to play new songs they know will rock their dancefloor, again this is a matter of choice, for me its new music now and that means cd's

the other reason i play cd's is i can do my own edits of stuff, both at home and on the fly, last week i used the cdj' loop function and dragged out the breakdown of chiapet for a ridiculous time, toying with the crowd by hovering my finger above the "loop exit" button till they were dying. then after i push it the drum roll kicks in.

i love vinyl, i just feel with the technology and the advantages its now time for me to be comfortable with cd's and the wonderful cdj. ive just aquired a dvj which allows each dj to attach his own personal visuals to his cd collection...(imagine having a visuals show that matches the songs to a T, a major colour change in the room during a major key change in a breakdown)...this is moving forward.

ilove both mediums and every club has both cdj's and sl1200's (either on permanent install or rented for the night as per our riders)
i don't think ill ever be able to enjoy the feel of a cd player the way i do vinyl but the advatages of the cdj over carrying records with you now makes it so. i still buy, collect and love vinyl. most of my cd's began as vinyl...

im not saying its for everyone, but i can tell you im close to the last of my peers to make the switch.

this ended up a lot longer than i though but hey...

maxgraham

p.s. the commercial argument has no weight, there is no money in dance vinyl these days...downloading direct from the label makes far more sense in so many way's

Posted by djlemeir on Sep-28-2004 01:01:

@zing: they have been using traktor since the begining of fs... and yes there has been stability issues. i dont kno about fs 2 as they have changed the interface (hardware)

@max graham: god bless the loop function

tiesto is going to abandon vinyl pretty soon.

whatever happend in the future i will never sell my fav records... but as maxgraham said we have no other choice than playing cds with the quality of the equipments... i just dont feel the same playing a cd... it's so impersonal ...

Posted by Mekroon on Sep-28-2004 07:45:

how do you make money out of a track now???
i just dont get that point

Posted by max graham on Sep-28-2004 11:45:

well

same way you always did...either signing it to a major label (rapture for example) and going mainstream with it (cd singles, radio), or licensing it to a major compilation (oakenfold, GU or gatecrasher for example) or even better a movie.

small independent record labels don't make money just selling vinyl, look how many have stopped doing it, some pretty prolific seemingly successful dance labels have ceased to exist in recent years, i think that pretty much says it all.

Posted by Kate Manus on Sep-28-2004 11:55:

or like Prime Distribution going under this year.. ouch
that's not even mentioning the actual labels.

So then Max.. what is your 2 on Final Scratch?

Posted by max graham on Sep-28-2004 12:29:

hmm

while i love the technology concept im not personally feeling a mouse and a menu...again all this is personal choice...the laptop in a nightclub issue too...for me i don't feel looking at a screen...i still like to play with lots of little things like cd's and vinyl
flipping through my cd case searching for that newly labelled disc with that hot new song i know is going to rock.

again im not comparing for anyone else this is simply my feelin
