I love that movie - it's sooo disturbing!

I like the part where the dog grows tentacles that rips its own skin off and then mutates into that huge tentacle beast in the corner, ripping apart all of the other dogs in the kennel that were locked in with it. SOOOO Gross! I saw that scene when I was about 8 years old... we had a Siberien Husky at the time.

Yeah John Carpenter's The Thing.. I actually wrote a paper on that for my lit & film class last semester.

Another classic scary movie is The Shining. Just the way it's presented, the atmosphere and framing of the shots set it up as one of the most visually horrific films ever.

You're not going to be scared by any movies if you don't want to be. It's sort of like hypnotism - if you're truly not open to its effects, then you will never be under its influence. Unfortunately, though, you sort of limit yourself in your experience if you never let yourself be open to a scary movie - many people, including me, find it a very worth-while form of entertainment. Maybe being scared just reminds us that we're alive - sort of a primitive survival instinct is released when we see traumatizing things in our reality; though those things might be prescribed and fake, imagination ushers perception into realms of possibility that transcend fear and anxiety, thus it's the same effect (obviously not as strong as truly being scared for your life, but the feeling is conveyed nevertheless).

I'm not saying that I can't sleep at night or get nightmares after watching a scary movie, or that I even jump at moments in the movie (I''ve conditioned myself to not look like an idiot that way) but I know how it feels to be scared and I like the feeling - in a controlled environment, that is

I dunno, maybe it's just something you're going to have to open your mind to someday.

well scary isnt just flinching at jump scenes.

Scary for me is really unnerving stuff

extremely distressing emotional haunting stuff

that scares me

like when you leave a theater lookin behind your back...just like holy shit

see the thing that makes it not scary for me..is that say in a movie like the grudge...i know that stuff CANNOT happen..thats why it isnt scary

it's not scary, mind you, but it will definitely have you thinking about it for days afterward. And i'm not just talking about the infamous rape scene either. The whole scope and graphic reality of unavoidance is harrowing.

just went to the sites for "Grudge" and "Saw" and I still have no clue what either is about. Whats with all this high tech crappy flash previews and shite?! a simple text description would have worked fine for me!

dead alive.. best horror movie evAr! (ok well maybe not best, but bloodiest!)

Saw a preview for a movie called "Shaun of the Dead", a British movie that looks to be half Zombie movie, half comedy.

The lead guy I'm pretty sure is off that Big Train tv show, but it has a semi serious storyline of Zombies.

Looks like it could be a winner.

I donno. So far 21 grams is the most scariest movie I have seen. Seems hard to beat. It was more scary in a emotionally, spiritually distrubing kind of way. Not to mention I saw it all messed up on a heavy duty psycadelic, that movie has scarred me for life.

Session 9

nothing jumps out at you.. no loud noises and scary music.

Just pure terror. Monsters and ghosts and shit aren't scary.. but the potential of the human mind is, and that's what this movie explores.

enjoy!

Correction:

Sam Rami only Exectuive Produced the movie. Producer's supply money and get distributers (and sometimes have a say or suggestions since it's their money). They don't make film's.

The Director makes the film. In this case the director is "Takashi Shimizu".

scariest movie i think i've ever seen has to be the ring...the original japanese version. after watching it...i did not want to own a tv in my room. and for as long as i live, i will never buy an oval shaped mirror or go anywhere close to a well...nevermind climbing into one....wut deranged people...

in my opinion, the american hollywood version doesn't do justice to the original. it might just be a cultural thing...or jus a hollywood thing...but it lost a lot of its scariness.
