I'm seeing the UN turn into the League of Nations part 2. They never do shit. Sumeria, Rwanda, Bosnia, practically every military uprising and slaughter of innocent civilians hasn't raised the eyebrow of the UN. They don't give a fuck unless it's impacting on the leading countries in some way

Why was the League of Nations replaced with the UN? THe League of Nations had no military force, so as much as they said "Bad Boy Hitler don't be bad" there was nothing they could do. That was spose to be the fixation of the UN, that it would have a fighting force(aka Peace Keeping). They just never use it. All I can see is another useless "lets sit around and be all democratic, while innocents are slaughtered" type organisation.

Sorry Churchill, looked like your dream and hard work didn't quite pay off.

+1 here too... I don't think Howard has done such a bad job.
I lived in Campbelltown when Latham was Mayor there and it was a mess... there is a reason that place has the biggest Centrelink office in the southern hemisphere

I just don't think Latham can cut it.

johnnie and his merry band of liberals have my vote this coming saturday

I think this is the first time i have ever agreed with anything you have had to say gumble

aus troops should never have gone to iraq. US troops should never have gone to iraq. we have a UN gor a reason. and i think the deaths and impairments of the results of the gulf war on innocent iraqi children far out weighs what hussein has done.

im voting liberal. its taken me ages to decide, but i think i will go with them. im upset that we ever got involved in that war, but i think a liberal government is the most stable and head strong we can elect.

the terrorism stuff is bullshit, mostly - but australia needs a strong leader at this point in time. howard is that, latham not.

one would think i would be voting greens, hehe, study environmental science / management or even labour - being a student. sure they have some good policies for now, but im more concerned about my future. my hecs may increase, which will suck - majorly, but at least once im out of uni having the security of a good liberal government will provide me with a more certain and stable future.

anyway, im voting liberal moreso to keep the others out. liberals have made some monumental fuck ups, but i think that they are still slightly better than the rest.

in summation: kiss my private school educated, vegetarian, tree hugging yet conservative arse.

Posted by Lanithium on Oct-05-2004 10:32:

they are all wankers but howard will get my vote.. aint no way i wanna see latham as our pm.. and if he gets voted in may god have mercy on us all

im with wax on this one.. i had to ask the other night who was lib and who was lab and i didnt even know the voting was on saturday lol :|

anyone who thinks troops shouldnt have gone to iraq are just like the people who blame governments for not negotiating with terrorists to release prisoners... CLUELESS!

Agreed!

I'm with Johnny, Latham as PM worries me.
While I don't like some things the Libs have done, I still reckon they would be better than Labour. Apart from a couple of policies I agree more with the Libs than Labour, some of whose policies I really don't think will work and who I can't trust to do the right thing.
I'm in a safe Lib seat anyway.

Senate - different proposition altogether. Not sure who I'll vot for, Liberals maybe, Greens definitely not, Democrats - haven't heard from them this campaign so I can't vote for them, Family First - maybe, first time ever I'd support a church group, Labour - maybe.
Maybe I'll randomly fill out every box below the line (all 60 of them ). Not bloody likely

why is john howard wearing headphones?

I don't know too much about economics, there were interesting points raised in the previous Election thread defending Labours economic policy, and the level of debt under Howards government is worrying. Overall i favour Howards economic policy

Education - imo Labour. I went to 5-6 dirt poor primary schools around the country and an absolute @#$% hole of a high school in Sydney Will not be going to uni until i've backpacked through Europe and Asia though

Foreign Policy? Well, Alexander Downer is a rash hothead... Would be interesting to see Kevin Rudd in action, he seems quite adroit. I just hope he doesn't argue with foreign diplomats like he does with the media

I agree with you that the United Nations influence has diminished of late. The UN is as powerful as its member nations; at this point in time that means very little considering the lack of resolve from the members on the Security Council. Nevertheless, the UNs indecisiveness in no way makes Howards decision to commit to war on the basis of a fallacious casus belli morally permissible. The war in Iraq was illegal under international law.

How long was hussein in power and did the UN ever do anything about it ?

A better question:
How did Hussein come into power?

The U.S. involvement in the coup against Kassem in Iraq in 1963 was substantial. There is evidence that CIA agents were in touch with army officers who were involved in the coup. There is evidence that an electronic command center was set up in Kuwait to guide the forces who were fighting Kassem. There is evidence that they supplied the conspirators with lists of people who had to be eliminated immediately in order to ensure success. The relationship between the Americans and the Ba'ath Party at that moment in time was very close indeed. And that continued for some time after the coup. And there was an exchange of information between the two sides.

Where did Iraq's Weapons of Mass Destruction come from?

Between 1985 and 1990, the US government approved licences for the export of some $1.7 billion worth of military, chemical/biological technology, a total of 771 licences in all during that period (only 39 licences were rejected). The substances include: Bacillus Anthracis (anthrax), Clostridium Botulinum (a source of botulinum toxin), Histoplasma Capsulatam (cause of a disease attacking lungs, brain, spinal cord, and heart), Brucella Melitensis (a bacteria that can damage major organs), Clostridium Perfringens (a highly toxic bacteria causing systemic illness), Clostridium tetani, a highly toxigenic substance), Escherichia coli (E. coli), genetic materials, human and bacterial DNA, and dozens of other pathogenic biological agents.

whilst i dont pretend to know everything there is to know at all, or even much on politics, the idea of Latham running the country is quite to be honest... i think howard genuinely acts in the best interests of the country, whether the people agree or not, whereas i think latham would become a sucker to trying to please the masses and not thinking in teh bigger picture of the countries best interests.

The demagoguery from both Latham and Howard is a little sad :/

Vote 1. Armin

I guess you just answered why Latham is so much more popular amoungst the young people of Australia than the older generations. Because they are ignorant. Wisdom comes with age doesn't it. hahaha, nice one

Posted by Tranceilvania on Oct-05-2004 13:43:

I'm not here to convince anyone here. But when ppl say Little lap dog johnies economic policies are perfect for Australia that makes my brain boil with anger! What f@*ing ecomic succes he has brought to Australia. He and his mates just rode on the back of low interest rates created by the US markets. And he is taking credit for that. Do you think if labour was in power interest rates would stay high just because they were Labour not Liberal. I don't think so. It would have been the same. Ppl still would buy all that properties which they could not afford and will not afford when rates rise again. Do you think little Jony will be able to keep the rates low when the US economy goes hi-wire again. NO, he's bound to follow his master!

At the start i've supported that Iraq war with full heartly even waving Australian flags etc front of the TV set with exciment Soon after realized it was just a big bullshit purputrated by the hungry Texas petrol barons to make some extra cash while in the white house. I recommend to watch that Michael Moore movie to everyone "Fahrenheit 911"
U don't even have to pay for it. Moore doesn't mind if its shared over the P2P networks such as kazaa etc. Thats how i've got it. I agree its pure propaganda on behalf of Moore but nevertheless it contains a huge amount of truth innit. Thats why Dabya Bush could not sue him or ban the film.

And some jonny Pic that have previously posted here. Sorry if i've offended anyone. I just don't watch channel Ten, 9, 7 news to get my information.
