I just think that there hasn't been an earthquake more powerful than a 10.0 (well since we've been recording earthquake magnitudes at least) because that would be total annahilation. But there's always a possibility...

But I tend to ascribe to the theory that says that anyone stupid enough to kill themselves over a message board probably doesn't have long to live to begin with. Natural selection is bound to catch up with them.

The Richter scale has no upper limit, although it's logarithmic so you'll rarely see anything over 9. The largest recorded earthquake, however, reached 9.5 on the scale.
