Gmail adds free POP3 access.

quote:
Over the next several weeks, we are introducing POP access to all of our users. To make sure the feature is fully stable, we're giving users access to POP in phases. Once POP access is available to you, a 'New Features!' link appears at the top of your account, along with a 'Forwarding and POP' tab on your 'Settings' page.

Now all you Outlook addicts can check your GMail account straight from outlook, without ads

Given that, and the fact that GMail also supports e-mail forwarding, I see absolutely no reason why anybody would want to use any other free online e-mail service.

Google's index doubles!

Holy shit. ha! Just the news needed to make M$'s attempt at a new search engine even more laughable. http://search.msn.com//http://beta.search.msn.com/ , although dangerous once they decide to bundle the damn thing with Windows.

Google launches Google Suggest on Google Labs.

Start typing your query and Google will try to auto-complete it for you. Pretty cool !

I write the server-side logic for https://www.google.com/publisher/

So unless you are a publisher, it's unlikely that you'll get a chance to abuse it - LOL

Survey: Yahoo, MSN catching up to Google

By Brendan Sullivan
Google Inc. provides the best overall consumer experience among major Web search engines, but Yahoo Inc. and Microsoft Corp.'s MSN have made significant gains in popularity since May 2004, according to a study by Keynote Systems Inc. Participants in the survey also chose Google as the search engine they would most likely use in the future. Google, Yahoo and MSN are the top three search engines, in that order, based on overall consumer experience, Keynote found in a survey of 2,000 consumers, the results of which it released on Thursday. Ask Jeeves Inc. and Lycos Inc. round out the top five, the San Mateo, California-based Web performance monitoring company said.

Interesting

In a very low key announcement on his blog, Ben Goodger, lead developer for Firefox, has announce that effective from a couple of weeks ago, he has become a Google employee. In practice his day to day job won't change that much, in that he will still lead Firefox through its forthcoming releases, but with Google paying his wages, we can be sure that new and interesting overlap between the Mozilla Foundation's browsers and Google's services are sure to develop

Google releases video search !

quote:

Our mission is to organize the world's information, and that includes the thousands of programs that play on our TVs every day. Google Video enables you to search a growing archive of televised content everything from sports to dinosaur documentaries to news shows.

Google Video Search

Personally, I'm a little dissapointed that you can't actually view the videos that Google finds; as is the product seems pretty useless to me. Lets hope we'll be able to view those videos in the future.

I was just going to talk about this. It SUCKS SHIT compared to Yahoo's video search, which, well, uh, actually gives you VIDEOS.

Tell Google to fix that shit, durafei.

I just had a big argument with my roomate about it.

Yahoo's Video Search is actually pretty straight forward to implement. It's exactly the same as Image search, only looks for files ending with .mpg, .avi etc(instead of .jpg, .gif). I don't why Google doesn't offer that kind of Video search, but I highly doubt that it's due to the complicated nature of the problem.

The potential of what Google has to offer with their Video Search is enormous... if they ever start showing the videos.

Get on the next plane to California and you have that fixed by tomorrow at 5pm or you're toast.

Now this is the business

http://maps.google.com

I HATE mapquest, and yahoo maps, they both suck, hopefully Google will do this right, and so far, it looks awesome from the few addresses I've typed in. Hopefully its driving directions are good.

edit: driving directions must need some work. Aurora to Toronto is 552 miles and you go through Niagra to get there. Hahaha, you drive from Aurora to Niagra, go AROUND lake Ontario to Kingston and back down the 401 from Kingston to Toronto.

Who knew.
