On topic: I voted "yes". I think that a lot of people are too focused on how the Turks will influence the current EU. The vast influence will be on Turkey by the current EU, I think. Just consider how much change the Turks have gone through in the last 20-30 years, havin gonly the prospect of EU membership as their guideline.

A: You. Seeing the length of some of your posts (not actually reading them), I can only assume you spend a good deal of time and energy in doing so.

I do post meaningless shit 99% of the time, though the amount of time and effort i put into my posts (and this forum and others alike) is minimal.

Do you guys think you're making a difference reaching out to a couple dozen people that maybe read your posts?

Do you think that this time and energy could've better been spent organizing a grassroots movement which would better serve your cause, that is if you do have a cause? Or if you don't want to do that, talking to your friends or family (internet chat not included)?

Or are you just so bored with nothing else to do than spend time expressing your views and thoughs on an internet forum? Although, at one time or another we're all plagued by this one.

D: None of the above. I debate here because of one thing: Me. When you take part in a debate, you test your perceptions and reasoning, and have a chance to discard those that are wrong, as well as gain new ones from the arguments of others. I feel better about myself and can state my opinions to others with more confidence once I have debated them with someone intelligent. Of course, that is not to say that everyone in the political forum is intelligent...

and it's not the first time he has openly expressed his hatred for muslims , i invite you to do a search (if of course you have time to spend as you explained earlier).

definately no, if we let turkey in europe is gonna border iraq lol...also low cost turkish labor force is gonna spread all over europe creating more job problems etc..and lastly we have enough to pay for the new eastern countries for the next years anyway

Anyway, I can foresee millions of "refugees" from the Middle East going to Turkey, claiming asylum, then moving to Europe proper legally.

i agree with the above statement. in order for Turkey to join, they need to have a strong industrial base, and should not depend on western EU subsidies to get up to par to western standards. maybe they are already up to par, i will just assume they are not.

Europe is still recovering from all the damage the Turks did in the past 500 years. Just ask the Greeks, Serbs, Croats, etc.

just wondering out of the voters, how many are actually European in residence, as in how many who voted yes/no actually come under the EU's jurisdiction. I think personally it would be bad to have Turkey in the EU for now, there are too many countries doing nothing, and leaving ones such as the home nations of the UK to pay for everything, our economy is fucked, jobs are being lost and pensions are non existent. Taxes are high and there is a lot of problems with our schooling & health systems, in which I'd rather see money be spent than on inviting another country to freely come into our shores at will, especially as we have so many minorities now that the streets are dangerous with both fighting between iraqis, pakistanis, indians, chinese, turks, former yugoslav countries, baltic ones et al that it's no longer safe to walk alone, even in the daytime here. Supporting another country.... not imho

Yeah i know we dont have a common refugee policy yet, but we dont have any turkish membership yet either =)

Well, I am of European residence and I'm probably gonna be under EU jurisdiction in about 5 years.

if it's any consolation there's no problem with Croats A lot of serbs in Nottingham for one I know who battle with Turks over drugs amongst other things
