Played the trumpet for 7 years growing up. Hated every minute of it. The only good thing that came out of it I will say is a strong background in music which I truly believe helps me when I produce music now.

No, I don't. I have zero musical aptitude.

Revelation: contrary to popular belief, I'm not quite perfect!

Technically not an instrument yes but there are some DJs out there that have so much skill on the turntables you could compare it to watching a great guitar player.

Posted by mezzir on Mar-14-2005 20:03:

turntablists can use turntables as an instrument
look at kid koala

but as for me, piano, guitar, bit o' bass
dat's about it
been wanting to learn to drum but haven't had the money for a set or the motivation either

my advice to you, is that if your school band is anything like mine, GET OUT NOW!

turntablism is a musical talent, and turntables are instruments, no matter how vague. what is scratching other than percussive rhythmic sounds?

I can play a little bit of piano that's about it.

Posted by idoru on Mar-14-2005 23:42:

Violin
Bass (String and Guitar)
Alto Saxophone (Just a little)

Wouldn't mind learning to play both Piano and Guitar.

Posted by Floorfiller on Mar-14-2005 23:52:

i can play "Flight of the Bumblebee" on my skin flute

Posted by nic01445 on Mar-15-2005 00:21:

The most sonorous solo insturment of all time. period.

Posted by wizniz on Mar-15-2005 01:03:

I've been playing the bass guitar and double/string bass for seven years now and i am at apoint where i know lots of songs but if i want to learn a new one i can pretty much just listen and then play it time+effort=skill, baby!

im teaching myself the keyboard right now bcaus i juts got my microkorg and i want/need to learn it for compositions.

i also taught myself the guitar...

ive also been writing music for four years now. it's a nice *outlet*.

I started playing violin when i was 3 i think and i've played since then.

Posted by fitom tiel on Apr-20-2005 00:19:

since the thread has been resurrected, i've taken up bass again. drums on rare occasions when we fuck around as a band. bass, though, im doing somewhat seriously. orchestrating songs with another very creative person, the lead guitarist, and three talented-enough individuals on drums, keyboard and vocals. we're doing well. four songs, three of them ours, performed at a gig one day after we formed, and it got us another gig.......
yep. that's the status.

Posted by b i n k u n on Apr-20-2005 00:27:

Violin: 8 years
Viola: 5 years (yes, i'm a converted violinist)
Piano: on and off for 14 or so years after 2 years of lessons at age 6.

My last concert (I was in the university orchestra) was in Dec 2003 tho.

Always wanted to learn the drums. Someday...

Posted by DJ_Bananie on Apr-20-2005 01:32:

its great to see so many violinist!!!!

i was leaning towards becoming a viola player, but this bitch kept stealing my instrument, so i stayed with the violin

I also play (somewhat) recorder, alto sax, guitar, piano, cello, and theres probably more that i just can't remember right now :P
