then maybe its only an issue with laptop internal sound cards but i know a few people who have had this issue. with bass tho if your card cant do the frequency that the bas is it makes it sound like ass and you cant really hear the bass good. when its porcessed from the vsti.

this might be true in logic, where you have to bounce in realtime.

You mean when I press "export" in Cubase ( which is not real time, but ten times faster depending on your cpu speed ), my soundcard has to render all the sounds and send it back to cubase ? Would be an immense amount of data processed between the cpu, software and soundcard ( imagine 96khz 24 Bit ). Imagine what amount of data if you have 20 tracks in 96hz 24 bit to render.

I think it's completly bullshit that "the soundcard would be used to processes the sound from the vsti"

Indeed, the soundcard only matters when actually outputting the sound, not rendering it.

The only thing soundcard related when rendering actually depends on how your rendering/sequencing software is written. Some sequencers won't allow you to render at higher rates if there isn't a soundcard present that can actually work at those rates, even if it's done offline.

For the rest, the mixdown is internal, a cpu process only.

That just looks like a VST recreation of the NN-19 sampler. It doesn't allow you to use VST's in Reason at all.

I use Reason because of the Sequencer, which I love. After I've scetched out a track there, I import it to Cubase with VSTi's and my lovely JP8080 to give it color, polish and flavour. I don't fancy the sequencer in Cubase as much as reason's

Subtractor and Maelstoem is good, but it takes a lot of tweaking and trixing to get them to sound right. I find it much easier to get good sound of of VSTi's and hardware :P

You are wrong! CPU is processing sound from the vsti. When you have crappy soundcard, you just HEAR crappy sound... I repeat: you just HEAR.... Export it to wav, plug in good soundcard and listen to that wav, it will be perfect quality sounding

Why I use Reason

For me Reason is the BEST and still the BEST. Here are the reaons:

1. Very easy and intuitive to use. Though I suggest buying the tutorial cd rom ($30) to learn all it's tricks. It's like having an entire studio at your disposal.

2. Faster music production. Using the matrix I can discover nice baselines quickly.
