i guess for me,, not only does she have nasty fake ones with dinner plates,,,, i just think its pretty sad to think that she has to spin topless to get gigs... like cant you jus tbe a good dj and keep your damn clothes on,,, or maybe the industry is sexist and doesnt give female djs a chance,, so they feel they have to get naked to get gigs..... who knows..... or maybe shes just a hoe and her music sucks... either way,, nice corset, and hope everyone had a happy halloween.

Posted by Kytracid on Nov-01-2004 23:29:

it's pretty funny how everyone thinks she's a hoe for showing off her titties...who knows, maybe the broad can spin too. Although, i'm thinking she probably has to spin topless so people won't boo her too much during the trainwrecks.

And i don't think the industry forces her to spin topless. Lots of chicks spin good sets and don't have to degrade themselves in the process, it just seems this hoe wants to show off her breastesess, so more power to her.

There's gotta be an audience of dim witted human beings who actually like topless DJ's...i'm thinking a majority of them, live in and around strip clubs.

Haha, are you always "on?" What about Miss Kittin, Misstress Barbara, Chloe Harris, DJ Heather, DJ Rap, Meat Katie, Lottie, DJ Tatana, Lady Dana, Ashley Caselle, Lisa Lashes, and Anne Savage? Do I need to continue here? Maybe if there's anyone "holding back" the female DJ population it's the ones who constantly stereotype female DJs as vapid untalented sluts who "need" to get topless in order to get any attention. These bleeding-heart crusades against "sexist" industries only serve to demean the talented women who actually CAN succeed - in other words, you aren't helping your cause.

Don't get me wrong, I find the whole topless DJ thing pretty stupid, I think if anyone really needs to see titties that badly they should just go to a tittie bar. I just get tired of hearing a diatribe every time one of them gets mentioned. Yes, they are sluts and generally useless as DJs. No, they aren't representative of every aspiring female DJ. No, they aren't representative of a sexist industry that holds women back - these women aren't even marketing themselves toward the same crowd that would come out to see the likes of Misstress Barbara and DJ Heather. They're strippers, more or less, and the "DJ" thing is mostly so they can do what they do best while retaining ever so slightly more dignity than they would have as a conventional stripper humping the brass pole. Let them have their fun, it's not like they're preventing real DJs from being taken seriously.

Ummm, since when did Meat Katie (Mark Pember) and Ashley Caselle get a sex change operation ?

Haha, sorry, it's hard not to make assumptions about those names when I haven't actually seen them up front.

I stand by my argument though.

Well hey, just goes to show you how gender doesn't mean shit. I'll never forget the kiddie in the chillout room who referred to Sasha with the words "SHE BLOWS!!!". Most people get their first taste of a DJ by listening to mixes or albums and there isn't even really any way to know whether they're listening to a man or a woman unless the artist plasters pictures of him/herself all over the place (and Armin/PvD/Tiesto are just as guilty of THAT).

So while everybody is having a good laugh at my expense (and rightfully so, no excuses here), consider how well I just proved my own point.

I think she enjoys what she does. She's an exhibitionist, and a DJ second. I don't think she's doing it topless ONLY to get gigs.

Posted by Kytracid on Nov-02-2004 00:49:

^^^

Actually, it's understandable if you're not into prog breaks (which both Casselle and Meat Katie predominately spin/produce). Plus both those guys aren't really that huge, so it's possible to make a mistake with their gender (especially with Meat Katie).

I don't know if i'd be as forgiving if someone said the same thing about Diggers, Sasha, Carl Cox or PVD...then i'd have to say the guy didn't know what he was talking about. In your case, you just assumed too much...which in fairness can happen to anyone.

since when aint Meat Katie huge??

yea he aint no Phil K but this guy IS a big name producer/DJ

The topless thing is a gimmick though. Because if she does that more then once, obviously she's also marketing her considerable 'assets' as well as her talent on the decks. I can understand if she went topless for Halloweeen only (given the freaky nature of that holiday), but if being topless is one of the things she's known for then i'm sorry being an exhibitionist is a pretty lame excuse to give when the truth is far more simplier - sex sells.

The important question though is -- how good was her set ? The titties don't really matter that much (although seeing them flop around and squeezing them at the end of a set does give added meaning to a DJ interacting with the crowd)

Is he as huge as Sasha, or Digweed, or Hybrid or even Freeland ? No...

Meat Katie is huge if you're into prog/breaks...that's it, and despite what you believe Liam, not everyone's into that. Look at the DJ100 List...you see Hybrid or Meat Katie on it ? When i said 'huge' i meant that when i say Meat Katie, you know i'm talking about Mark Pember...like when i say Sasha, you know i'm talking about Alexander Coe (and not DJ Sasha) -- get it, yet ?

Phil K isn't huge either...He's damn good, but he ain't huge.

And my comment was directed at DigiNut in response to the assumption he made, not a comment on the quality of either Meat Katie or Casselle.

ill let marcin talk to u about that

lol

Posted by DigiNut on Nov-02-2004 01:06:

Well I'd bet that 9 out of 10 people reading this thread have never heard of either of those two DJs, but if the people who have wanna point and laugh, be my guest.

Point is, there are plenty of female DJs out there that get by on talent and not "assets" - and if they choose to do the latter, so what? WHY do people care so much? I'm seriously starting to wonder if the boobie envy theory has some truth to it.

Posted by LKD on Nov-02-2004 01:10:

DJ Rap is a good example of women proving their skills

i had read a biography of hers somewhere (prolly on ehr site) that she used the name DJ Rap when handing otu demos and all to show her skill to avoid discrimination against her based on her being female and also to be appreciated as a dj rather than teh fact that she was female in other cases.

damn the woman CAN spin AND is hot

Who do you think told him ?

LOL, actually i might not have tipped Marcin about DJ Phil K, but you're missing my point. My use of the word 'huge' was more about popularity then skill. Meat Katie is immensely talented/prolific producer, but he hasn't gained the kind of recognition where people know the man behind the moniker.

People know Tiesto isn't the mans real name, even someone like me who doesn't like Tiesto knows this. The same is true with Sasha, people (who know their EDM) know he's a man, and he's not Russian, and his name is not really Sasha.

I don't expect people to know who the men behind Meat Katie or Ashtrax unless their into prog/breaks. Hence my comments to DigiNut...

Have i sufficently squashed this...or what ???
