What would be defined as too vocal and not enough trance?

Examples?

To make it fair for every1, this will be my last time i'm in this competition, it's not that i'm boored or sth, cause i'm really having fun here and im really satisfied with the results of mixing that i have, but i'm not satisfied with what i'm playing(in my place MP3 ),so i'll be trying as much as i can to move on to CD players, and start playing in our little scene .

Hope this comes true

Don't we all want that?

I payed close attention to last competition and I wanna give it a try aswell this time !

I just listened to your mix for the previous competition. Very good one. The judges did well to place it first.

Posted by Magicbas on Nov-09-2004 17:09:

I was wondering, is it a really big thing if one makes a mix thats slightly over 80 mins? I would assume the judges want to burn in on cdr, so 80 mins would be the max, but I'm just curious coz most of my mixes are either less then 60 mins or slightly over 80 mins.

Other question: Is it really nescesarry to use 160kbs mp3? I rather use 192 (which is my standard when recording anyways) and I think the quality (even tho not that obvious) is better. Should I interpreted this rule as in "no less then 160 kbs" or "160kbs, no more, no less" ??

Plz let me know

Posted by DJ.MD on Nov-09-2004 17:52:

It's no less then 160 meaning you can go over, but remember the judges have to download almost 20 mixes

Posted by mr2gti on Nov-09-2004 18:03:

Hey folks!!!

Another one eh!!! Always gooood!

In for a Judge again if it helps

Enjoyed it last time and will do the same again.

One issue, Cue sheets. I wanna know where the DJ has started the next track transition.

I hope all from the last competition have another pop too, some class acts out there!

JUDGE!!!!!!

Isnt it the dj's job NOT to let you know where he started the transition? I mean, if you cant figure out where the transition started, it means the Dj did a great job

I personally think its kinda stupid to tell everyone where you started mixing the 2nd track into the first...
Just my own opinion tho.

Oww ok, cool! Just what I wanted to hear

Any id abt the other question aswell? :P

Posted by mr2gti on Nov-09-2004 18:19:

Totally agree Magicbas, but It helps 100% when reviewing the mix to scrutinze the mix for beat and melodic errors.

And, as i'm the only judge upto now, I think it's quite an easy ask!

Posted by resonate on Nov-09-2004 19:31:

Still in training but i would like to see how I fair up

Resonate.

DJ Entrant.

Posted by mr2gti on Nov-09-2004 19:37:

LOL - you won't be in training for long, once you hear what these guys can do (there is another thread to download there sets) you will practice so hard you will be a semi-pro in no time lol.

I would enter but Traktor just wont have it. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Will on the GF's though - but she's on it 24/7 lol

Could you please reserve a spot under the alias "DJ Austin H" for me? Fab.

Posted by D Dubya on Nov-09-2004 19:55:

Is this just for software DJs? I would have thought this would be CD/Vinyl competition only. let me know.

Posted by mr2gti on Nov-09-2004 20:36:

This one is an MP3 mixing comp only.
No CD/Vinyl at all. Ithink there is comps for that in other months

Only Mp3 DJs!!!

Posted by newwave on Nov-09-2004 20:52:

Say what? I've always thought of FS as "old-school" -- like the package says Anywho, can I get any clarification on what "mp3 DJs" are? Or do? Rather, use? For example:

quote:
1. You may mix with Mp3s in Real Time (Traktor was the most used for the last one).
2. All mixes must be recorded live, no using multiple mixes and sticking the best transitions together.

You've lost me with the "may" part in the first one, and the plural "mixes" in the second part. I've got tables, plastic (I'll do FS if those are the rules though), and a funky set ready to spin, so: let me know mate!

Oh, and can I change the name reg'd to just "Austin H"? The decisions are too much to handle right now :P

Do you wanna use FS? Cuz it's not allowed.

Damn, I totally blanked out on the fact that Traktor and Traktor FS are ... ahh ... different pieces of software :P Basically, this isn't one for the turn-table junkies -- eh?

interesting.... okay, well count me out of this one.

Posted by newwave on Nov-10-2004 05:58:

So could someone explain to me (honestly, I've read the rules atleast ten times now) what exactly this competition entails? I can't believe how confused I've gotten! :P

Posted by Marius L. on Nov-10-2004 11:25:

newwave, it's simply that FS is a "plugin" for turntables and youre still touching the music. And it comes that you use turntables to mix music, am i right????

And we mix everything with computer, like me - only mouse, and 3 keyboards buttons - shift, left and right.

Posted by newwave on Nov-10-2004 13:27:

So I see! I take it then, by the removal of my name from the list, that I can't use FS for this one And I'm guessing that it'd be kinda hard to get a competition-worthy grasp on the original/real (?) version of Traktor -- I'm trying to see how cheaply I can find it but FS really slammed me in the hole...

I was soo pumped for a real vinyl competition, then when I absent-mindedly read Traktor as TraktorFS, I just went buck wild Also, I presume that, say CDJs don't qualify either? This is an interesting concept that I have absolutely no experience in. Thanks mate!
