lol who knows. my best friend's boyfriend (he was my friend too) got her one for xmas. i had never heard of it until he told me what he was gonna get her, i thought it was really cool. i might do it for my bf for xmas. it's different.
oh and for other unique, affordable gift ideas, go to www.redenvelope.com that is the best online store, and i've bought several gifts for my dad on there, and the stuff isn't junky either, it's quality.

The last thing a girl made for me thinkin that I would enjoy was a bag full of goodies.
There was 1 card to preface everything that said thank you for being a friend and stuff. Then she gave me the bag. The bag had everything individually wrapped.
There was a pewter heart with the chinese symbol of Spirit on it because she thought I had a strong spirit.
Then a cheap film camera that was like 15 bucks.
Then a set of sketching pencils cuz she knows I draw.
Then a second card with a drawing she did.
Then one time she went out to buy some ribbons for an art project she was doing and was acting weird so I hugged her and she started crying so she cut 1 inch off each ribbon and gave them to me in a velvet bag and said I knew her better than anyone...
then some glow in the dark stars for my room (i have a blacklight)
dunno if that helps. Girls like that shit. Shows thought.

oh yeah and to make sure its not as if im contributing to this thread here's my idea:
get her something that doesnt just scream "STORE BOUGHT".. i mean dont necessarily go and cut down a tree and make something out of wood..
but buy something thats not cliche, but something that she'll remember.
1 year for my sisters birthday i bought and named a Star after her. yep. a real star.. there was some website where you can have an observatory take a star thathasnt been named (other than like G45SX33 in Quandrant Galaxy X.. etc) and you can have it named after someone.
its cool you get a neat little diploma-sized certificate with it.
She thought it was the best present ever.
Never ever, ever, get a gift certificate. Its practical, but not at all romantic.
What has she organised for her birthday? A party?
I'd be inclined to get some jewellry, perhaps some ear rings, but this is pretty risky, and you really need to know what you are doing, or you could fuck up badly.
My pic would be to take her out to a really nice restaurant, budget permitting, for her birthday. Make sure she dresses up a little amd wears a dress, and you look smart as well. Order some wine, have desert, make sure it has a decent view. Be a gentleman, and have an awesome time. Don't stay out too late, and don't catch a movie, just make sure that its romantic and you have a good time. Drink some cocktails.
The thing you don't want to do at such an early stage in the relationship is go over the top. Just look to have an awesome night out and maybe even go out for a bit of a dance somewhere.

I was just joking guy, exagerating
All I was trying to say is I cant believe nobody in the two pages that followed seemed to pick up on the pearl necklace joke, or they would have mentioned something about it.
I mean come on! Its a pearl necklace!!! Cant you picture it?
Guy: Youre getting a pearl necklace for your Bday
Girl: Oh I love you!
Guy, pulling out his pearl necklace dispenser: Mmmm here we go baby, don't move now

Its brilliant!!!

Hey guys, thanks for all of the tips... I did chuckle at the pearl necklace post as I didn't want to acknowlege it and have this thread go the wrong way...
It is interesting to see so many different responses... I think I am going with this: Click Me (the build a bear suggestion) because as I had mentioned she loves animals, she has a golden retriever (which she misses A LOT), it's cute/fun/not too serious, and they donate a portion of the proceeds to animal charities (which she'll like even more). I think I'll do that and a dinner at a fun type restaurant.
Thanks for the replies everyone... keep them coming. I'll need Christmas suggestions soon enough, hahaha.

hmm... since you say you live in NYC, winter clothing is good. like a nice warm thick scarf or a ski cap (and promise her a ski trip to Vermont or something), or those little cutsie boots .. the oogs .. is that what it's called?
purses are no good, because you probably don't know what her "purse style" is.. all chics have some kind of special taste in purse styles.
either that, or buy something for her dog. i am surprised no one has mentioned that. it shows that you love and care for the same material she does. something nice, like a dog sweater, or dog cap. not dog food, because that is no good.
maybe a cell phone is good. got money to splurge on that?.. usually over $100. and get those camera phones and have your picture naked as the desktop, so when she turns on the phone, she sees you naked.
